- In this video I'm making a start at setting up my new tablesaw. I will be doing a series of videos from assembling the cabinet stand & mobile base. Then setting up the main tablesaw & setting it up for accurate cuts.

Thanks for the review. Enjoy the new saw!
Thanks mate
Having been disgusted by a cheap Aldi tablesaw, I swore that I would not buy another until I could afford a good one - but good tablesaws seem to start around £700, which, as I am an OAP, is more than I can afford.
I didn't know that Axminster were reducing the price of their "Craft" machines - until I saw your video. I immediately placed an order for the same "Craft" saw that you have - and was told that I had snagged the last one in the country! In fact, the manager of my local Axminster had to get it shipped from another branch.
I also ordered the cabinet and the mobile base, and as luck would have it, Axminster had a "free delivery" special offer in place on the day that I placed my order, which saved a lot more cash!
So, thanks entirely to you, I have been able to order a decent tablesaw at a price that has to be an absolute bargain! Many thanks!
Thanks for letting me know, I'm glad someone else managed to get a great deal thanks to my video. Just uploaded my latest video where I assembled the saw.
Interesting argument for the small saw, the little footprint is definitely an advantage in a tiny shop... and what a bargain!
Yeah I would love a proper cabinet saw but in my small workshop this is about as good as it gets. Would never have paid the original price but for the price I paid its ok
Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to put up this video. I was having trouble deciding if the 8 or 10" version was the most appropriate for me. Your video has helped me make up my mind. I'm going for the AW216TS. Liked and subscribed.
I have the same table saw had it 2 years now excellent saw very heavy,I bought the sliding sled worst thing I bought ended up making a crosscut sled I would recommend using 2 separate blades a 24 tooth for ripping and a 80 tooth for cross cuts the 80 tooth Saxon blade excellent and not expensive, good look to your back when lifting the saw 😂😂😂 overall can’t fault the saw
That's good to know thanks for letting me know. Yeah I will be buying more blades, aren't the saxon blades thicker?
Hi Dave, you did well with the purchase price. The mobile base is a good move pun intended lol. Tony
🤣🤣 it certainly is. I think the original price is too high but I'm happy with the price I paid
Good video,I have All my machinery on mobile base's,I hated putting them together too many nuts& bolts, a tip for future bases if you purchase more machinery, make up a cardboard template of the exact same size as the machine you will be putting on the base, much easier than lifting heavy machinery on & off to make size adjustments,I did this after my wife complained about the weight of my 2 large piller drill presses & Large cabinet table saw , looking forward to seeing you setting it up and dial-in adjustments to it I must say your mobile base looks better than my 8 base's, mine are pretty much the same except mine are heavy L angle steel, where as yours are square steel mine cost $120 each Here in Australia cheers Dave and congratulations on your new toy 😃👍👍👍
Cheers mate appreciate that. Yeah I think in a small workshop you need everything on wheels.
@@GrumpysWorkshop4 true ☺️
Big congrats on the new saw fella! I hope you enjoy it 👍👍
I'm sure I will, thanks for watching & commenting
Great video Dave, you made it really interesting. I invested in an induction motor and the neighbours were very pleased with the purchase! Interested to see the next stages. Thanks for posting.
Thanks mate appreciate that. Looking forward to using it
Great video dave very informative
Looking forward to part 2 👍
Cheers mate appreciate it
⭐⭐⭐
Thanks mate appreciate it
Great video Dave and an absolute bargain, 👍.
Thanks mate appreciate it. Yeah I wouldn't have paid the original asking price that's for sure
Hi Dave great video as always. Looks like a great saw. I’ve just been looking at them this week. I think they might be to big for my small workshop I have the scheppack 105 saw.👍👍
I'm happy with it. Glad I got it as cheap as I did. I'm sure you could squeeze it in your small shop if you tried😉
When you shortened the front and rear bars, did you trim a bit off each end, or did you cut one end only?
One end only, I did think about cutting both ends but my brain was struggling to work out how much I would need to cut off. The holes only line up in certain positions so I just estimated & cut one end
The price of the new (same bloody saw as the last with just a colour and name change) is shocking IMO.
I paid £595 for the older one 2 years ago. The new one is £680.
Don't get me wrong it's still a reasonable saw if not overpriced.
Nice one dave, i did think about getting the base for it but just could not justify buying it horses for courses i guess. Looking forward to part 2, i thought the same as you when choosing which of the 2 to get 15mm is not alot the only time it makes a little difference is when you make a sled so i made my sled using recycled 9mm birch ply so base of sled not so thick.
Yeah I think the extra 15mm cutting depth doesn't justify the extra cost. I wouldn't have paid the original price for either but we'll happy with the deal I got. The cabinet stand is quite expensive but so is timber right now. Does make the saw look good though. Its the closest I'm ever gonna get to owning a cabinet saw
@@GrumpysWorkshop4 I do agree it does make it look nicer, to be honest i think unless your doing woodwork for a living its fine. I did buy the left hand side extension which is a good buy thing is as well is knowing when to stop spending. i think if more surface was needed i would make units on wheels to push in place as needed but as my shed is only a 12x8 pent im at my limit lol.
@@sandman2651 ha ha know when to stop spending, I may have a problem with that😉. I think I might be addicted to new tools😁😁. I may buy the left extension table but need to work out if I have enough room. I'm also thinking about buying another rivin knife so I can cut it down to use with non through cuts as it's higher than the blade. Atleast then I have the option to make housing joints if needed without having to remove the rivin knife which is something I would never do as kickback scares me to dearh
@@GrumpysWorkshop4 I cut my riving knife down for through cuts and cut another slot in it for the blade cover but to be honest i dont use the blade cover very much at all to be honest, well looking forward to part 3 with you setting it up, give my regards to mel take care, mike
I got the email from Axminster about the "End of line sale" when I was at work and tried to order it when I got home but when I enquired about delivery I was quoted just over £200 because I live in the Isle of Man... I decided not to bother!
I've looked at the spec for the old AT254TS and the new AW254TS that replaces it and they are identical, so a new paint job justifies a new price???
Blimey that's expensive postage. Yeah I checked to see if the new ones had any changes but like you said they are identical. They are overpriced I think, I would never have paid the original price.
