Both of these rigs sounded awesome but holy shit Cici’s bass tone was so accurate, that Glenn Hughes amp definitely came in clutch
I’ve just realised that Dave and Cici are the last people you should get to encourage people to spend loads of money on gear and upgrade it. They show that it’s 90% talent and practice and 10% gear. And even the gear you have, if you fiddle with it enough you probably don’t need anything else.

This is the first "sound like" video I've watched twice back to back. The tones and the playing were epic. Great job.

IMO Cici's bass came through much stronger this time than previously - a really authentic tone and a decent audible level instead of being a little low in the mix, which has tended to happen in some of the others in the series. I love it Cici you sound very Purple! As for Dave, well he always sounds great and as I have a Katana (the Mk II Artist Head with a JCM 900 4x12 cabinet) it was particularly interesting for me to see what he got up to. I asked you for Deep Purple recently, so I need to say thank you very much! I wish I was even a small fraction as good!
Guitar was a tad too gainy compared to the albums. That was more for being a product of their time though because it sounds great.
The Hammer is so damn fast on that bass, with such precision. Really great playing from both on this one.

These two are so talented, they make shaffordable gear sound great.
They for shure are great but consider also that manufacturing of electric instruments has improved so much that Squier today is the Fender of the 60s, I had an american pbass in the 90s, my actual cv 50s is actually comparable.
Might have to be new favorite episode, monstrous tones out of both rigs.
Just guitars plugged straight into amps, and it was the best sound this duo has gotten yet.
Especially in the mix. both instruments sat exactly where they should, and sounded amazing.

Cheap ceramic Strat pickups are underrated for that kind of rock stuff, provided they've got good output and they're not microphonic. Both instruments sound amazing for their purpose.

Shows really for most classic Rock this is the only setup that would really be needed to get there.
Really all that was missing from the sounds like for Deep Purple was a keyboard player to get a John Lord Hammond style Rig.

1:05. I am just seeing this video for the first time and the sounds these two players produced from no frills instruments was both epic and ear/eye opening. I grew up listening and burning the tones from those albums in my brain and if I were blindfolded while listening to them play, I would have sworn what they played were actual isolated snippets from the original album tracks

I picked up an Afinity Strat at a thrift store for the grand total of six dollars, slapped a set of good pickups in it, better pots and switch and it's a fantastic guitar. It's not anywhere near as good as my American Standards but for some reason I end up playing it more than any of them. It's weird how much I love that guitar.

How bizarre, I'm having a Deep Purple phase, teaching myself the basslines and here's Cici smashing Black Night and Highway Star! I'm still figuring out those wild licks in the middle of Star, some of Roger Glover's most idiosyncratic work, they're never the same thing in each "verse". I have a DSM Humbolt Bass Simplex I can turn up the overdrive on to get some extra roughness on my SB-2 so its almost Ricky but it can't be that nasal.
