    In this test we put the famous AutoFlex shaft to the test to really see if it can offer us any additional swing speed, ball speed, or distance.
    We put it up against the brand new ACCRA GX 140 M2 shaft, still a very premium shaft from a great manufacturer, but at a much more cost effective price point.
    So is the AutoFlex worth the money? Let's find out....

    I bought an Autoflex 3 years ago and put it on a Sim2 Max head. No fitting, just an expensive experiment. I really liked the feel of it and would hit a few really long drives. I took it in this year to see if any of the new offerings could beat the Autoflex. Nothing could match it. I spent a lot but now I'm saving a lot because I won't be buying anything new for a while.

    Great video. Being a senior golfer with about a 90mph driver swing, I am always looking for more distance. I played the autoflex 405 for a while and found it to be too soft and wobbly. If you have to change your whole swing to fit a shaft, it's the wrong shaft for you. Played around with the various autoflex type shafts and ended up with the Accra fx 140 M0. It is not the same feeling as autoflex. Much more stable and as you found out is way more accurate. At first, I was playing at 45.5" and would hit the occasional bomb, but dispersion was a little bit wide. So I shortened it to 45" by taking 1/4" off the tip and the butt. Now it's very controllable and predictable and when flushed long too. I feel Accra is a bit stiffer than other brands. Turfinteractionsgolf mentioned the TPT shafts and I was looking into the Power 20 or 21 Hi as an alternative too as my shaft guy now carries the brand. The TPTs have very similar cpm, weight and torque as compared to the Accra. The TPT offers some high tech materials and construction that nobody else does. Why can't I just be happy with what I have now that works?

  • @rvoykin
    @rvoykin Před 2 měsíci +2

    I am a longer hitter and put the new XX auto flex into my current driver and immediately added easily 10 to 15 yards and tightened up my dispersion. Unfortunately, I was just trying out a friend and haven’t gotten it myself, but I was blown away with how much of an improvement I got immediately I was averaging around 305 inside on the simulator. And was getting 320 to 325 with the auto flex. I felt like I could swing harder and not get punished for it so I was even creeping up to the 330 range. It was so laser straight to it literally felt like cheating. From a feel perspective, it felt much softer. When I flushed the driver, it gave a much nicer impact feel than my traditional Ventus white S-Stiff.
    I haven’t ponied up the money, but if this new version can perform anything like the auto flex, I would buy it in a heartbeat. It’s hard to justify $700 for shaft and I have the matching shaft lineup in my five and three hybrid, which means it would cost $2100 to do all three graphite shafts, which is absolutely insane.
    I didn’t have my swing speed measured, but I’m typically about a 121 -122 with the Ventus. would be curious to see if it was from an increase in swing speed or just timing up the delivery of the club had much better which is how it felt

    • @epgolfstudios
      @epgolfstudios  Před 2 měsíci +3

      That's great, but I would say go to a decent fitting place and try some other alternatives before shelling out all that money. In my opinion you will 100% be able to get that same performance out of something that doesn't cost the earth 😂👍

      Thanks Nic. Didn't hit loads with both tbh as I was swinging and striking well tbh so didn't need too. And this wasn't a test of which shaft is better for me anyway, it was purely a speed test and it was apparent very quickly that there was no difference 😂

      Got an odd question, if I turned up at 6ft 4, quite a long back swing, smooth tempo, fairly smooth transition, swinging at 109-110 mph, play off 4, so hit an OK ball, what 2 shafts are you going to try me in for driver?
      Honestly just curious on your thinking based off that. 🤔

    • @epgolfstudios
      @epgolfstudios  Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@willfieldiii7150 depends on strike miss, directional miss, feel preference and tbh probably depends on what head i'd be trying as I fit mostly stock stuff 😂 but yeah it's really hard to say in all honesty. Probably something along the lines of the new Ventus Blue 5 X or the VF 5 X

    • @willfieldiii7150
      @willfieldiii7150 Před 2 měsíci

      @@epgolfstudios I'm in a tsr2 as of now, as the driver is possibly the weakest club in the bag. I love the look and feel of the tsr2. Just changed in to a Ventus blue 6S TR. Love the feel. Strike miss is a little toe side or low, both sides of the course have a possibility of being the miss. But I hate the left side tbh.
      Do prefer the feel of a lighter shaft over heavy, but like it to feel stiffer than softer.

    I swing anywhere between 112-117 depending on the day, I was fit into a X flex shaft last year, actually it worked pretty well for me but unfortunately it got damaged. When I went back to the fitting centre a few months ago to get a replacement I was messing around with softer shafts while I was waiting, turns out I loved the feel and after some real testing ended up with a TPT 18hi which is 235cpm, so kinda similar to what you're playing here. I hit about 30 balls and about 20 of them were the same shot. It's a bit lighter and way softer than the previous shaft, i feel it's less effort to swing and it's more consistent than my previous shaft so for me it was a no brainer. I just wish they had the even softer ones in stock that I could have tried to see if even softer still and even lighter would have worked even better for me but i'm more than happy with what I ended up with.

    • @turfinteractionsgolf
      @turfinteractionsgolf Před 2 měsíci

      @@epgolfstudios I think the fitters have to be open minded too. A lot of fitters wouldn't even consider putting me in a softer shaft, they'd say I'm too fast (I don't consider 112-117 fast at all BTW and I was averaging around 114 in the fitting), in fact I've heard that in previous fittings at other places "you're fast you need x stiff", so it's even more interesting that that's where I've ended up. But it's all good at the moment 👍

    @jimbecraft1960 Před měsícem

    Based on your comment around 15:10, I assume I’m not understanding downward deflection. If the Autoflex is whippier with more downward deflection wouldn’t we expect the strike to be higher on the face, not lower?

    • @epgolfstudios
      @epgolfstudios  Před měsícem

      Depends if you're talking lead deflection or shaft droop. Lead deflection is the head kicking up and towards the ball so essentially overtaking the shaft, which can in turn move the strike down the face. Whereas shaft droop can move the strike slightly higher and more toward heel.
