More commonly known as Peacock Bass, this non-native, non-invasive freshwater species was introduced to Florida in 1984 from the Amazon by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to control the growing population of exotic cichlid species.
Peacock Bass are extremely aggressive and territorial over spawning beds which makes them an excellent candidate to manage the invasive species and a great target for anglers. Peacock Bass can be found in almost any canal, pond, or lake throughout south Florida.
One of the biggest challenges of catching Peacock Bass in Florida is finding accessible water. Almost all bodies of water are along a road or in residential areas.
Kids ride around on their bikes spot hopping just trying to fish and end up getting chased out by the local Homeowners Association (HOA) aka Haters of Anglers.

I like the idea of trying to work with HOAs to make these fisheries more accessible. Great video!
