We love to fish. Fishing is not a crime. We high five those who swing flies, skate dries, and fish 365. We get loud when things go well, and learn from our toughest days. We nymph, we stalk carp, we strip streamers, we troll, we have fun. We fish different, we are the misfits of fishing. We fish with flies, but take the opportunities we get to fish cranks, spoons, plastic worms, and live bait because fishing is fun no matter what. Let’s teach more fishermen and women to fish. It’s taught us to be grateful, to be patient, how to travel, that we have much to learn, and what’s important to protect. Fish responsibly, fish to protect our resources as it has given us incredible friendships and memories. This is our project.

Are Rod Tubes Free? | Our Rod Tube Manifesto
zhlédnutí 300Před měsícem
WHY WE SELL OUR RODS WITHOUT A ROD TUBE In most cases the cost of the tube was adding $40-80 to the final retail price of a fly rod, which we felt was a meaningful enough difference to do something about it. By separating the rod tube from the total price of a rod, we have been able to price our rods to reflect what we’ve put into the rod itself, and not much else. ROD TUBE MANIFESTO flyproject...

The Project One | Our Most Versatile Fly Rod

ONE ROD TO DO IT ALL We spent many nights in a cold shed on the Missouri River in Montana spinning handles on our mini lathe, drying epoxy, gluing corks together, and testing components before we came up with the Project One. We wanted to develop a single hand rod that was fast and cut the wind but still had soul for a baetis or PMD hatch. Now better than ever, the Project One is a 4-piece qual...
The Haka Series | a New Addition To Our Fiberglass Rod Series
zhlédnutí 450Před měsícem
FOR SMOOTH, LAID-BACK CASTING The Fly Project Haka was developed with a smooth and laid-back action for smaller waters or dead calm days on the Missouri. We use the most responsive fiberglass that we can find, which makes the Haka quicker than old school glass rods. This rod is surprisingly quick and light, but make no mistake, it’s still a glass rod with a retro slow action. We used a traditio...
Fly Project Cree | A Dry Fly Rod Developed On the Missouri River
zhlédnutí 440Před měsícem
WHEN THE HATCH IS ON We wanted a dry fly rod with more soul but a mid-section that can slice central Montana wind. We used a unique carbon lay up to develop a rod in 3, 4, and 5 weights that is a perfect for dedicated dry fly anglers. We kept the rod light in hand by using an unpainted blank and single foot guides. On the blank we left the oven wraps unsanded for some additional protection. We ...
Fly Project Zia | The BEST Youth Fly Rod on the Market
zhlédnutí 481Před měsícem
THE GATEWAY TO FLY FISHING The Fly Project Zia was designed as a youth rod or entry level rod for those getting into fly fishing. We noticed there was an opportunity in the market for a better quality, better performing rod for young and new casters. We also felt it was very important to build a rod that doesn't break the bank and create financial barriers to getting in the sport. This lightwei...

Winter Nymphing the Missouri River | Project In The Wild No. 52 (Montana Fly Fishing)

Winter time fishing is almost always predictable. The fish are lethargic and held up in deep pools or trying to sun themselves in the shallows then the sun is high. We have been experiencing abnormal temperatures in central Montana recently. In late January we were hitting the 50 degree mark so Noah and I (Jay) met up with our buddy Jake in Craig to take advantage of the warm weather and hopefu...

Looks very nice
Hey, what wt rod are you guys using?
8wt is the go to for bonefish!
Have you gotten the prop 65 stuff figured out so you can ship to CA? Or will I have to roadtrip up there to get my stuff?
Unfortunately we have not. Best option right now is to have it delivered to family member or friend outside of CA and have them ship to you
You guys are dropping some absolute heat lately, i picked up some flies and the 1st gen montucky and absolutely love it. Use it more than any of my other reels. The project one rod is one of the prettiest rods I’ve seen, definitely going to grab a few when i can. Keep it up! Your customer service is A1 too, loved the “no bananas” sticker
we appreciate you homie! -Jay
Let me give you some marketing advice! I purchased two custom fly rods ($ 1500.00) The mfg shipped one in a pvc pipe the other taped to it. The mfg has tubes for sale on his site for $ 25.00? It’s not rocket surgery! Add $ 40.00 to your price! You will NOT lose a sale @ $ 350.00 vs $ 300.00
The majority of the market does include a tube. The price of that rod tube is factored into the final price of the rod. We want to offer our customers the option of opting out of a fly rod tube if they want to save anywhere from $40-$80 if they do not want to pay for it. You can buy one with your fly rod or you don't have to. The point is we want our customer to be able to choose and know what they are paying for.
@@flyprojectusa I enjoy your content! Keep up the good work
I love you guys. Cant wait for my new FP rods. I too have a gazillion rod tubes that are useless to me.
Good job Jay!
wow simply incredible. I just ordered the project one and Haka glass on sale and this will be my next purchase. Thank you guys for making beautiful products at incredible prices!
I have been trying to find out if it is possible to fish Spey casting with multiple flies like on a single hand rod. I had no success until I end-up on your video where it seems normal to have more then one fly. May be because you can not fish salmon with more than one fly...In Canada any way. Do you have video on the subject ? Thanks
Hey @gouinjean-michel3911 we don't have a video on this at the moment. we do fish 2 flies on a Scandi setup from time to time. Usually I only run two flies when I am fishing soft hackles on my Scandi setup and when I am trying to figure out what the fish are keyed in on. Let me know if you have any other questions!
@@flyprojectusa Wow! Thanks for the answer. I am new at the two hand rod and I only have a Skagit line for now. But I will try that on it any way.
@@gouinjean-michel3911 cool man well check out our site. We have a ton of spey products and you get 10% your first order if you sign up for our newsletter 🤙
Great video, great detail...
Finally a video with some music playing in it. 🤙✅ Keep up the great work bro.
Good enough for US fish 😜
Very nice! Recommended rod weight?
7-8 wt is our go-to
Nice. What rods were you using: #6, 7 or 8?
7-8wt is our go-to
Sick video!

Is this around Malta?
This is near Fairfield
An entire documentary for one fish? You guys suck
BS
Very cool story!
Thanl you for the information..quick one,..so we add backing as well as running line, head, etc?
That is correct… for sure still need backing.
I am going kayaking there soon, is the current strong
Nope, just slow and steady
@@flyprojectusa thanks
so I can go upstream
Nice work Jay as always!
Lovely tie , great dubbing .
Best fly fishing video I have seen in years! Well done gents!
Thanks Greg!
I like the idea of trying to work with HOAs to make these fisheries more accessible. Great video!
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Thanks for the great story. I got to spend a week in and around Thompson falls in the early 90's and hooked up on a 24 in. Bull Trout. Best thing is I got to hook up the same fish twice. he broke off just before I could land him and as soon as I got rig up and the next cast he took the bait and got him landed with my first rig in his mouth. Best day ever.
Siick!
What body of water is this?
Ever use mono eyes on this fly?
Yea we have tied the Bone Collector with mono eyes sometimes. you can tie in lead eyes or tungsten. Just depends on what look and weight you're going for and need.
Why does shank fly not work for rainbow 🌈
We have found trout, particularly smaller rainbows on the Missouri tend to slash at a swinging fly which causes the hook to roll over on its side and does'nt stick. We have found 90 degree hooks to have a better hook up rate.
@@flyprojectusa if hook is rolled over, the shank was not tied correctly. What type of wire was used? I am heading out to MT in June, do you have a shop?
it rolls when they slash sometimes not all the time.. We do. We have a shop in West Great Falls and The Trout Shop in Craig, MT@@busterbuffalo5554
I will look ya up in Craig this June!@@flyprojectusa
Can you use scandy with an indicator and bead setup
You could probably cast it, but this style of fishing relies on a tight line and swinging the fly through the water. Your indicator and bead would not be dead drifting.
Shout outs to Nippers!
Strong as a carp? nice place to fish !!
Hey Fred, What color streamer brush are you using? Thank you!
Hey, @TTapMT I believe it's the Sardina color. flyproject.us/ep-streamer-brush

@@flyprojectusa oh jeez
What type of fishing worked the best for you there? I have a trip in July and was trying to get prepared! I have a 10ft 8wt and currently fish in Colorado
Nymphing was effective the first day. When we found fish podded up on a particular spot we stripped a streamer through it on a single hand and caught quite a few silvers that way. Swinging pretty consistent with a little patience. Good luck on your trip!
Love the teamwork!
Killer! I'm a Kodiak roadie for life love fishing know that feel! ✌️🎣🐻
