    Just bought my first set of buttons to start with my aussie and they're on their way now. I'm so excited! My aussie is also my service dog, so he already knows a lot, but he loves new challenges and I think this is going to be a fun challenge for both of us. I'm going to start with 'treat' and work from there and hopefully work towards many buttons. Thanks for the explanation on how you started!

      @@peytonmac1131 Yes, we are up to 8 frequently used words with the buttons and waiting for the next set of buttons for which we already introduced new words. Different from my original post I did decided to not use a 'treat' button, as I am certain my service dog would be using that one non-stop and from the research we joined it was also discouraged for very food motivated dogs. We currently have buttons for: walkies, out (to go into the yard), love you, puzzle, water, all done, play and help. We've introduced the words ok, later, yes and want as well, but the buttons haven't arrived yet.

      @belaayya5094 Před 3 lety

      I have found the buttons to be much easier. Most people have leashes, collars, outside toys, etc put away instead of scattered throughout the house. It's also very useful for when you're in another room. But best of all is when my parents or my husband's parents visit, they don't have to learn how their grand-digs communicate. So, if they watch the dogs for a weekend, there's no miscommunication or accidents on their expensive floors.

    • @peytonmac1131
      @peytonmac1131 Před 2 lety

      Have you managed to get her over it? I'd think that giving her treats and moving the button close to her may be the wrong approach, as it's rewarding her for showing signs of fear toward the buttons. I would think an alternative might be to have a button that says a random word you don't want her to learn, such as tomato, and then keep the button with you. Press it occasionally and just ignore her so she learns that you don't care about the talking box and neither should she.
      After a couple of weeks, she should be desensitized to it, and then you can give one a positive word, such as 'walk'. Press the button yourself, then take her for a walk. She learns that the button leads to good things, and slowly you can get her to press the button herself.

    after training your dog on the buttons and you take him out somewhere else (without the buttons), will he still cry/ask to go out?

    Does this work on puppies? How old does your dog have to be for this to work

    Do these buttons actually work? I'm a skeptic. Do dogs really understand them enough to have a conversation, or tell you what they actually want?
