    You did fine. His little tongue seems to push the food out of his mouth....... that happens with every baby. It's involuntary, and indicates that they, like everyone else on the planet, needs to "get the hang of it". I'm sure by now he's a champ!

      My kids never had baby food. They got adult food including roast beef and adult oatmeal. I ground everything in a baby food grinder I got in 1974 at Sears for $4.95. I saved TEN TONS of money. My kids made it to adulthood.

      Baby cereal is a gimmick.
      As a baby I had adult oatmeal.
      I also had mashed or pureed food ( without salt).
      Baby cereal is more for convenience as it's quick and easy to make.

      @@sandi21515 I'm the wrong side of 50 and apart from rusks and formula I mostly ate whatever the rest of the family ate.
      Even with my own children who are in their 20's I cooked and blended food for them as they hated the taste of pre made baby food.

    He tried to eat it however best to blend or just buy baby oatmeal or baby rice cereal first. He's a sweetheart didn't want to disappoint mom

    Yeah, I'd have given him something with a little sweetness to it .. babies seem to like apple sauce and sweet potatoes, along those lines. Not processed sugar though. What a sweet baby ..

      I think the recommendation is to start solids at 6 months for babies that are exclusively breast-fed. Why would you feel otherwise?

    Nestum.
    Nothing thick.soak the oatmeal first in hot water then blend it really fine,add with milk if it's not Nestum.
    He's so sweet.i love him.

      Yes! Babies have tongue thrusting reflex when things are whole grain such as this. This is why baby food is completely puréed at stage 1. Baby oatmeal isn’t the same thing as adult oatmeal.

    Maybe you should mix it in the blender to make it more smooth or try a rice cereal or oatmeal cereal that is made for babies that’s too thick and chunky

      Normally, infants are fed rice milk which is a much finer, smoother food for the baby to eat. However, we did not have any rice milk so Hannah tried to make something similar by blending up some oats and mixing them with breast milk.

      It was his first attempt at eating and making it thinner to start isn't such a shock compared to going straight to solid food.

      @@gillettefamilyfarm it did seem a little thin...but just my opinion...I personally started my son early on baby cereal in the evening...if he is old enough to have his first tooth he is old enough for a thicker consistency of foods. Again just one opinion out of thousands.

      Oh. I'm sure he has. At that point everything you two did was trial and error, and many times success. You have to admit that runny oatmeal was hard to even look at and his sweet face said it all! LOL No criticism was intended. Just comment on his reaction. He tried with no fussing and had complete trust! Your lives are blessed to have both humor and love involved.
