In memory of the great musician and wonderful human being.
I am 68 yo and used to play Trumpet by ear when I was young. I decided to buy a Trumpet at my age and I am learning to read music. Found this excellent musician today, and I love the way he teaches. Smooth way, I thank God for people like him. I pray that the Lord will keep you healthy. Thank you a million, I have learned a lot with you. I subscribed to your channel in CZcams.
Whenever you hear CT you know right away ! Signature sound ! Great Artist who used his platform / gift / industry to make our lives brighter .... lighter ! Great humor fused with honesty ! Thank You for lifting us all up with your Art !
Holy free buzzing. What an amazing musician!
Was learning more about Clark Terry, one the the trumpeters I always tend to overlook. I learned that Miles Davis during his drug years was wasted living on the street and had no money. Clark who was his long time mentor had brought him a restaurant, fed him and brought him to his own apartment and left him there to rest. Clark had to leave for a moment but when he came back Miles Davis was gone and Clark's horns, clothing and radio was also gone. He was angry first but eventually forgave Miles. What a humble soul and what a great friend CT was even when he was back stabbed!
The only
Clark taught that skinny kid how to play. Just sayin'.
@TRUMPFOREVER
I'm pretty sure he had the best embouchure in the jazz scene.
Not only that but Miles' mother called him up that day and gave him a cussing for being a bad influence on her son. CT told me that himself.
41:20 made me sad. Love this video. Mr Terry really blessed the world with his musicality.
Coming up my 80th birthday bought my first trumpet this week, found your course extremely informative Too much information to digest all at once, but most useful tips from beginning upwardsReally really thankful for your effort to produce this e-mail. Ken
And here I was worrying that after so many years I decided to play trumpet at age 68. May the Lord Jesus give you the strength you need to learn and play the instrument. God Bless you.
How has your progress been since you first started? Would love an update.
I’ve been a full time professional player since 1989 and I still am amazed at how Clark Terry explained ANYTHING even cleaning out your horn! I was so fortunate to see him play live when I was in High School.
I learned the trumpet thanks to this video (VHS) in 1991-92!
Thank you so much for posting ! Greetings from Brazil !

Hello and thank you Mr Taylor bless your heart Sir and thanks again for teaching me the trumpet yrs after you've left us, my children will enjoy this as well, I'm 34 now and Im an 85 baby, wasn't even born when this took place
Fantastic teacher. I though scales were boring until I discovered his way of jazzing it up. He was the top cat!
Where have you learned how to jazzing it up? I mean do you have some teaching material from him ? more than this video?
Look up Charlie porters vids on jazz improvisation tips
He suggests that among many other tips on jazz improvisation
Man, what a treasure!
51 minutes well spent and used. Thank you so much 🙏🏾❤️
It was an honor to meet him when he worked with my Jazz Band at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff before he passed.
A well-earned 94 years. Happy travels brother. Be free.
One of the all time greats Loved seeing him and Doc playing together on the tonight show in NY
This dude absolutely shreds!!!
Clark, what a great teacher He he was , marvelous
This is the most amazing CZcams video I've ever seen! I'm not aware of any other musical LEGEND who's given a video course covering the very beginning basics of musicianship! I wish every beginner had a teacher this good right from the start! His down-to-Earth lack of ego and generous spirit is so beautiful it's touching! I'd love to see a guitar version of this and a piano version as well. But I think this is sort of unique!
Just two musicians creating perfection.
...remember having this on VHS....oh the memories.....
RIP CT Thanks 4 the lessons and great music.
Along with Bud Herseth, Clark Terry is one of my favorite trumpeters. He was a wonderful player and human being.
Thank You for your wonderful lecture. Thanks from Iran
I watched the whole thing...what a legend
Beautiful person . No fake ego , Honest Isnt it loverly ?
Thank you.... love this video...he's very helpful and informative
His striking of the bell seems spontaneous if you weren't looking for anything but there's a precision to it... this is a subtle soul
23:21 Is one of the most important tips for young trumpet players. Legend!
absolutely delightful.
I had the VHS tape when I was a kid!
A thumbs down on Clark Terry says you are one lost soul! Sorry about you. He was cool enough for Miles Davis to be inspired by and to seek out lessons from. I have to remember that some people just don't have "the ears to hear". This is excellent, take my word for it.
Pat Gannon Ya...gotta be a doorknob
Must have been trying alternative fingering ...

I wish this guy was my dad.
Clark and I played together in 1969 or 70? One of those years. We Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonians at APSU held our Annual Jazz Festival and Clark was our guest Artist courtesy of Johnny Carson who was so cool to let us have him for ten days during our festival event.
Vigi Driver 👏👏👏
My Uncle Frank played with him. Then again. I shouldn't be too suprised since he's played and continues to play with lots of different people.
...Esse é um dos Caras, grande Clark Terry, pena que não é dublado para o português (Brasil)
...R.I.P. professor.....
Gettin' back to basics for retirement. Got the trumpet I bought for Mason. I can't find my 6c Bach.
🇩🇪🎺 Good
Very very good fundamentals
olá meu nome é william sou brasileiro e estou iniciando no estudo do trompete gostei muito das aulas e técnicas apresentadas . Muito incrível este músico e professor me passa algumas aulas se puder Deus abençoe.
Este músico do vídeo já morreu.
Are these exercises printed out somewhere ? Sorry if I missed it skimming through. Great teacher. Did he put this in a course I can buy somewhere ?
After hearing Mr. Terry buzz.....without the mouthpiece, I put my trumpet away.....I have more practicing to do.
Why is it sharp when you go up the scale & flat when you go down?
Juniperus communis it’s called the language of music. It preserves the correct order of things. Going up you raise going down you lower. Best seen on a piano or keyboard. Learn the chromatic scale you’ll see your answer in that 🤔👍
🎺🎶💪
Lip buzzing at 23 minutes is beyond belief!
