    I'm still sad that they are scrapping these buses. If I ever go back to Singapore (I'm from Canada BTW) for a visit, sure I would get to ride the new buses I never had a chance to ride on before I left, but it just won't be the same without the older ones as well :(

But one question, don't they have like a car crusher machine, but like a bigger one? If they plan to scrap buses, they should use those machines instead of the crane.

    This is the 1st type of the Mercedes-Benz bendy bus that Trans-Island Bus Services( now SMRT BUSES LTD) purchased and the bus is brought into Singapore by sea in a huge vessel which carries cars, trucks, buses and heavy machinery etc.. The 2nd type is another design of the bus which is known as the Smiling Bus with a plate number TIB 973A as the first launching plate number of the bus. As for the 3rd type, it is a design by Pininfarina with TIB 1019Z as the 1st plate number at the launching of the bus. Now all these buses are either scrapped or being sent overseas for use in other countries. In this video, the bus is scrapped at Kiat Lee Machinery Services as authorized by LTA. The machinery used is an excavator fitted with an industrial clamping tool.

    • @hseochin
      @hseochin Před 2 lety +1

      They should keep at least 1 unit of the Hispano Habit Pininfarina type in some transport museum in Singapore, bring it out for yearly joyrides (sell tickets to cover costs etc.) for the transport community here. The design is timeless..even after 20 years the styling, headlamps still look modern & the bodywork quality is superior to most others even newer buses !
      I recall at the time when i attended the launch ceremony around June 2000 @ TIBS Woodlands depot it was mentioned this was the world's 1st Habit bodywork on articulated Mercedes-Benz O 405G chassis...indeed time files..even now in 2022 year it still appears to me as if it's like 'not very long ago' when i attended that 1st ride around the housing estate following the ceremony that morning with the Hispano chairman on board & he asked me what i think of the bus..to which i said it's good, of course. Thing is, with the Hispano build quality 'standard', even after 20 years later i would still say it's good ! Can't say the same with many of the other bodybuilders however !

      Actually there are about 30 to 40 bendy buses you can see in Singapore but the manufacturer is MAN from Germany. Most of these MAN bendy buses can be seen at both Yishun & Woodlands Intergrated Transport Hub interchange. A few of these buses are in bus service 858 which operates between the new Woodlands bus interchange and Changi Airport. As bendy buses take up space because of its long body, double-deck buses are purchased by LTA instead.

    Can't SMRT & SBS Transit sell those buses to neighboring countries? I am sure they would be good enough for poorer cities in Indonesia, Thailand ...

    Why don’t they give it to other countries instead of destroying it and wasting it?

      It is junk... they make more money selling as scrap metal. If they could sell it complete for more cash, they would. Nobody wants to maintain this obsolete shit. If you think it is worth more than scrap, then why don't you buy them?

    I don't like that they released Freon into the atmosphere. They signed international agreements to avoid the release of these gases that harm the ozone layer. Which country was this?

      it’s a old bus and ofc it might contain freon… they prolly felt that it was btr to leave it there because of risk of bursting if they removed it prior to scrapping…but what can they do when they accidentally burst the tank… pls use ur brain to think b4 u comment and i’m rly amazed at the fact that you cld not identify the country based on the relevant information available…

    I don't like when they ripped something off and an air line started hissing. If the operator had hit an air tank that might have caused explosive depressurization and potentially injured someone.
