I very very recommend for you to read the Fall of Constantinople from the Islamic perspective. It all started from the prophet Mohammad's prophesize 800 years earlier. He said that the best city in the world (at the time) will be open to the Moslem.
      Some of the hadits:
“Whilst we were around the Prophet (saw) writing he was asked, ‘Which of the two cities will be opened first, Constantinople or Rome?‘ He (the Prophet Muhammad) answered, ‘The city of Heraclius (Constantinople) will be opened first!'”
"Verily you shall conquer Constantinople. What a wonderful leader will the leader be, and what a wonderful army will that army be!"
Even the reason and the circumstanses of why Prophet said that are very interesting.
