It's sweet how your cat lets the chinchilla sit on and groom her a bit, even if she does sometimes seem a bit annoyed :)
That is not grooming at all but dominance behavior. The chinchilla is trying to annoy the hell outta the cat. The cat just doesn't even know what's going on and so it doesn't care too much. And the owners do not know shit about chinchillas, how dominance focused they are and how fast things could escalate there. This is not a cute video in the eyes of any well informed chinchilla owner but more like a video of a ticking time bomb.

@@AerisFeremis to cats the one being groomed is the dominant one while to other animals such as rabbits the groomer is the dominant one… that’s why they can make decent pals cause they both think they’re the dominant one lol

I think it's beautiful that your chinchilla, cat and dog all live and play in such harmony together. I hope this love and peace last always. People don't recommend that chinchillas live in such close proximity with other animals but I think it really comes down to the personalities of the animals in question. And obviously these three get along great, with your chinchilla seeming to be completely fascinated and in love with your cat.
To all the people shitting on this family for letting their chinchilla in such close contact with the dog and the cat, please trust that they know what they're doing. There are no laws that state chinchillas CANNOT be allowed to play with other animals. This chinchilla obviously loves the cat. Heck my own chinchilla who I think loves me doesn't groom me that much, or sit on me for that long so happily. Then again, my dear little chinchilla (Pigli) is scared of everything including his own shadow.
In order to explain, I'd like to tell you my story. In the past, I've had rats (3) and guinea pigs (2) at the same time. Only one guinea pig (Smokie) got along with only one rat (Jelly) and the two were inseparable, loved each other deeply, played together, lived together, slept together, travelled together, kept each other warm, and tried to help each other when the other was sick. It was magical to see their bond and love blossom. The other rats and guinea pigs were either wholly indifferent to or afraid of each other. For instance, my other two rats (Tinkerbell and Little-It) loved each other deeply, and shared the same bond as Jelly and Smokie did with each other. However, when Jelly died leaving behind a devastated Smokie, we brought home another rat, Tinkerbell. Smokie was terrified of Tinkerbell, and Tinkerbell was not interested in Smokie at all. So we housed them separately and brought home another rat for Tinkerbell named Little-It, and another guinea pig for Smokie named Lilo. Now these two pairs became inseparable. So while Smokie loved Jelly, a rat, all his life, she didn't bond with another rat. I've also heard of rats become so hostile towards guinea pigs that they've killed them. While a generally good guideline is to not house rats with guinea pigs, it does depend on the personalities of the individual animals in question. And the same goes for chinchillas. A general guideline is for chinchillas to not be around cats and dogs and other animals, but really it comes down to their individual personalities.
I have my own chinchilla, and based on his personality (he's scared of EVERYTHING including his own shadow), he would do terribly with other animals, including another chinchilla. He does best with humans. But this chinchilla obviously adores the cat! And this cat obviously doesn't want to hurt the chinchilla!

I hate even taking my chinchilla to the vet... everything wants to get her. Dogs usually try to kill my hamsters and chinchilla more than cats do.

Chinchillas groom really rough, that's why the cat keeps tossing it. They start nibbling and pulling hair. That's how they take care of each other, it doesn't feel so great for other animals. I have tons of tiny little cuts where my chinchilla has been preening my hands and arms.

We have had every range of rescue pets over the last 25 years & we found potbelly pigs get along with cats, cats get along with dogs, dogs get along with rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchilla's and everyone gets along with everyone aside from our two newest rescue cats. Every night we have between 3 female guinea pigs or 4 male guinea pigs, a rabbit, two chinchilla's, 1 of the dogs all running around playing while we pet them. The male's in all the species like to hump each other to see who is dominate. They chinchilla's do the same thing to the rabbit & cats. If a cat doesn't like them(sometimes they are not in the "mood") they know how get up on stuff & not be bothered. If responsible I think different species can learn to get along if you supervise.

Такая целовашка, как шуша кисоньке делал - это высшее проявление любви. У нас две шуши: мальчик и девочка. Они так целуются, и детишек так обхаживают. Да, это, наверное, бывает больно. Наверное, они не могут целиком и полностью контролировать силу "укуса", потому как иногда между собой дерутся после таких целовашек. Особенно, когда у нас мальчик начинает с детками своими так знакомиться, а те верещат и маму зовут. Ну, а другим животным и подавно такая любовь может непонятной быть.
Тут с другим аккуратнее. Коты и собаки (особенно собаки) могут разносить инфекцию, от которой сами не болеют, но может заболеть шуш. Много таких историй, когда зверек за 2-3 дня сгорал непонятно от чего, внезапно. Просто следите за "большими" зверушками, если есть какие-то внешние "неполадки", то шуша лучше несколько дней подержать отдельно.

With the risk of making a fool of myself (as a vet), let me guess: The chi'lla is a male? He's doing what I would think looks like dominant behavior, from the gender perspective? Anyways, happy to know the cat is on a diet, hope she wont get too bored with her diet and start feeling tempted by the ch'illa ;-) And no, as long as the cat dont keep out the claws when playing/testing positions, I would never react on a animal cruelty claim here. It's all quite peaceful. I know cat/dog relationships with much more drama.

We don't know the exact breed of our cat, but also think she has Siberian background, so she's fluffy as.. I don't know what :)

The real danger, especially in cat-species and their anatomy and metabolism and body's way of "function" they cope very very well with "up-and-down" sizing and high variety in feed. They even tolerate periodical starvation and temporary over-eating and excess of certain nutrition.

Basically most cat owners feel the differences in their pets condition quite well and instinctively know when the weight is severe enough to make a cat lazy or struggling to move smoothly. But like cats cope well with large variety in their protein intake, they cope very badly with large amounts of complex carbs. The excess can make them like a hyperactive ADHD teenager.
Yury Podkopaev So if she shows a typical annoyed attitude, one trick could be to toss some dry food and exchange with tuna, chicken e.g. It'll make her digestive system work for longer and the raw diet will tricker her mood hormones and send energetic impulses out in her cells and bloodstream and "awaken" her physiological ability to store nutrition for later use, and make her and her muscles able to do high energy outbursts, shown as playing, play-fighting, catching mice, attacking owners feet, build "nests" new places without purpose e.g.
Yury Podkopaev Excuse my spam - and lack of english abilities. She's a beautiful kitty and so are the dog and the Chi'lla (one of my favorite pets, chinchillas). I'm not trying to play expert here. Not at all. All three are well balanced pets able to interact. That's actually pretty good and well done. Owners can influence inter-species relations a lot and really make a great "athmosphere" for them all to feel safe, bully each other, act out their species-specific behaviors, and argue a bit too.
