Heron Chicks eating crawfish - well trying - Great Blue Heron feeding her young. I saw this mama heron regurgitating food for her three young chicks, about a week old. That is how they deliver fish and small animals to there young. I was expecting a fish or a small mouse… when I got home and downloaded the video from the field camera I was surprised. It was a crawfish! The lobster like create was just too big for the small herons or heron chicks. They tried and tried to eat it, but mama finally ate it herself.

This heron nest I have been watching for weeks. So cool to see the chicks growing and eating! Even if this crawfish was too big, the young herons look very healthy!

WOW, had thought I was the only one that despises ridiculous dramatic music! I watch many wildlife videos on YT, I find it very offensive and extremely immature when music has replaced original soundtracks and it's very disrespectful to the videographers that risk their lives filming wildlife especially Africa's fiercest!

I admire the long billed water birds feeding their chicks a great deal more than eagles and other birds of prey! Eagle parents beak feed their chicks from hatch to fledge. To name a few; Herons, storks, cranes and bitterns regurgitate whole fish, lizards, rodents, eels and snakes for their chicks to gobble up and feed themselves!

Yes, they killed one. Likely ate him too. I read that is common. These birds of prey are pre-historic in nature, in so many ways.
