CANNIBALISM IN BUCOVINA'S GOLDEN EAGLE'S NEST

- The golden eagle pair Lucina and Caliman, where Lucina is the female and Caliman the male. They have occupied a nest located in a nature conservation area in Bucovina, Romania. In each mating season, Lucina and Caliman have achieved success several times in raising their children to adulthood. However, as predatory animals that occupy the top of the food chain, they do not have predators that can prey on them. To balance the ecosystem that runs naturally, they have the behavior of killing each other with their own siblings. This usually occurs during the nesting season where if a golden eagle hatches two eggs in the nest, then the young of the second egg will certainly not survive to adulthood in the nest. They will be killed by their older sibling from the other egg. first to hatch. This behavior is called siblicide in the nests of birds of prey.

Les animaux malades ou blessés, ne pouvant pas survivre, n'ont pas leur place dans le monde sauvage et les parents le ressentent très vite. Leurs destructions peuvent être considérées comme une préservation de la bonne santé de l'espèce. Cela devrait quelquefois servir d'inspiration.

This is the most brutal & tragic video I have ever seen😢. If Lucina would have fed it like she fed baby #1, it would have been bigger to hold its own. RIP sweet baby.
if you look at the intensity of the attack by the eldest brother, the youngest eaglet will not live long. he will die in the next few days.

Last season, Lucina killed her first eaglet; and fed it to the second. Perhaps not enough food in that forest.😢
The lucina did not kill its young last season, but the young were killed by accidentally being thrown out of the nest bowl when the young pecked and pinched the head feathers of the mother who was tidying up the nest.😊

I’ve never seen the Mother actually tear her child apart, while still alive and feed it to her other chick. She did not end its life quickly like you said. It was horrible and unnecessary.
