Check out the interviews with Russell Thompkins jr. He says that he was the only one of the stylistics that sang on records, the background singers on the records were all studio people and not band members. The band just sang on the road/ live shows.
@@ktmpc1 yes they are Kenneth. You tell them the truth. 12 of first 14 hits were recorded only by Russell. These guys touring singing Russell's hits. Like they stole a car and traveling around world with it.
@@williamg2552 no they didn't. Not all of the albms had them on it. Russell recorded and had orchestra backup., or studio singers or they recut using Russell's 4 octave voice to sing his own 4 part harmony backup.
And that is totally correct. Russell recorded every song....he made the hits in first few years alone. Except he asked Thom Bell to write Arion into 2 songs. He sang few sentences on 2 hits. Not even half of lyrics. Russell picked up the remainder of lyrics in the songs.
Great interview, but I wish the camera man would have had better control and focus. Also, I wish it had not been so abruptly cut off! That interviewer had some great questions! Still, it was wonderful! Love that and thank you so much for sharing!

That was only on their first three albums. They sang on the later ones.
