Two things today:
1. VEs shipping is incredibly fast, and well packaged. Have a sharp knife handy to get thru the packing tape!
2. I have sold scrap gold to Brian before. Sent it from another state. Almost $6k worth. Very fair, and I traded for bullion. Easy transaction.

I have questions:
1. When someone sends you a box of metal in the mail, do they give you a heads up first or do they just send it to you?
2. How is it sent? Through signed delivery?
3. When is the price of spot calculated? When you recieve the box, when the box is opened or when the package is shipped?
4. Do you respond to the shipper of the box with "The total value of metals in this box that we will pay is $XXXX. Do you want to sell or do you want to pay to have us ship it back?"
Great questions....1) both some regulars just send, others give a heads up first 2) your choice on either 3) spot price is dictated upon arrival and checked in, 4) yes we figure the price, get approval and mail back check or goods - no point in sending though just to get a quote, definitely need to be in mindset to sell, that is why we broadcast our buy/sell prices up front

It's better to hang onto the very good bullion and 90% but sell off the stuff that doesn't conform well or stuff that may be ugly, or otherwise illiquid in the retail market.
How do you test for authenticity, and particularly with gold? Chemical testing? Weight? My LCS wanted to scratch my jewelry and coin but I don't like it. Do you remove bars and coins from
their assays to ascertain purity, which of course would be detrimental should the seller ultimately decide not to sell?
We use various methods to test for authenticity, jewelry and bars are always scratch tested, coins rarely scratch tested. Seller should not send in if not in the mindset to sell, that is why we broadcast our buy/sell prices up front. If you send us gold bars in the mail you already know we are paying 98% of melt/spot for example.
