It’s still cheating and she has a responsibility to the field to play by the rules or accept the penalty. Since she finished the round and signed her score card incorrectly that could actually disqualify her. And as far as a fraction of an inch, if you play golf then you should know that that can be the difference in making and missing a short put. Why do you think players do it if it doesn’t help? And plenty of players do it, I know some who have made an art of it.

@@zanierrules do you know golf? I’m pretty sure i do cuz ive been playing before i started walking. It is by rule a penalty, we can’t change that, but i doubt she did it on purpose and it would not affect her putt at all for a few reasons.
      1. It was a very close putt, looked around 1-2 feet, an inch either way would not change the aimpoint and result of the putt, especially because it looked like a very flat putt
      2. It was moved forward, not to the side, and due to the reason stated before, it would not change her aimpoint
      3. Due to these reasons why would she intentionally make this action knowing it’s would be a a penalty on a random 2ft putt??? It would make no sense for her to change it just due to the fact that it doesn’t change how she plays the putt at all.
One inch from that distance will not change how you should play that putt.

third party accounts of a fraction shouldn't be part of the rule placing a penalty on someone. what is needed is field and line judges watching every golfer in a tournament, like in "football". a judge has to actually see the rule break in action in order to penalize the player. it can be backed up on a replay camera, if they have one. what rule covers a golfer who while on the green uses his putter to "push" the ball by continuing contact with the putter and ball into the cup?

In the first example Mickelson new what the penalty was for what he was doing and simply decided it was worth it. My bil plays golf every week and cheats at every hole, be it improving every lie, taking mulligans, moving ball from behind all obstacles or using the hand wedge to get out of sand traps. Still he manages to show off his score card and brags about how many birdies he’s made. Gives a hole by hole account of his best shots and tells of how he beat his other brother. They both equally cheat by the way, so in that sense it’s a fair game, as strange as that sounds. I can no longer play with them. It disheartens me.

For Reed's imbedded ball, the video sgows that his bakl bounced after landing, so was not imbedded. He's a clear cheater

WHY would Mickelson have to be disqualified ? Nonsense...this is like you get shot free of penalty (hitting drain on fairway) and drop the ball in the rough or play it from the drain...what are you even talking about?
But if those things were cheating i am wondering if thats video is cheating
And even Tiger DIDN'T cheat because it was moveable...

I think others had complained that she regularly altered her ball positions when marking them on the greens, much as Blaylock had done . Put the marker slightly to one side then when replacing the ball move it to the other side can alter the line if not closer to the hole. A professional should know and be able to properly mark and replace their ball...she KNEW what she did. Perhaps her other competitors didn't want to make a stink about it, but when the Officials were presented with the video evidence...and no doubt they'd heard the rumors...they took action. 4 strokes is pretty harsh..but it is what it is.

Reed was 100% cheating in both instances!? U can't touch the sand at all until u r actually hitting the ball!? The club head cannot touch the sand at all until the actual shot is played and u can't touch the sand on the backswing...1st contact with sand has to be on downswing while hitting the ball!? It's pretty simple!? And the "embedded" ball was 100% cheating too cuz clearly that ball was never embedded! It was just buried down in the rough and he knew he wouldn't be able to make a good shot so he moved the ball, and probably pushed the ball into the ground to make a Lil depression to try to sell the "embedded" ball thing, but really I think either way he should've gotten a penalty for it cuz he didn't wait for officials to verify that his ball was in fact embedded so he should've been penalized cuz there's no way they could know for sure that ball was embedded and they shouldn't just take the players word for it!? And the depression they said was where his ball originally stopped was probably done by him while moving the ball..he probably pushed it into the ground to make the depression!? And I'd be willing to bet that the depression that was there wasn't deep enough to consider it embedded in the ground!? Clearly from replay u can see it was never embedded...it takes a bounce and then settles down in the deep rough, which would be a very difficult shot to make, and Reed clearly saw his ball was in a bad lie and he quickly moved it and claimed it was embedded!? Even if it was embedded he should've been penalized either way cuz he moved it b4 an official verified that it was in fact embedded!? If it was really embedded then he should've waited for officials to see it and tell him he could move the ball but he didn't do that cuz the ball wasn't embedded at all so he just figured he'd move it and claim it was embedded and I'd bet he made the depression they saw by pushing ball into the ground as he was going to pick it up and move it!?
