I use a pump like this to pull water from my creek. It has been a life saver this summer.
Good to know! Thanks for the tip!
Thank you Jason for another great video that gets me "thinking"... rain is a precious resource and a blessing... Blessings on your family and homestead Kiddo!! 🌻🐛🌿💚🙏💕
Looking forward to your expanded water collection system.
I use the same Milwaukee Transfer Pump to water veggies on our farm and in our High Tunnel. Been using for a few years now with our 1500 gallon black pvc tank. Works pretty well!
You were videos were the inspiration for me to get my first IBC so thanks Jason! Also, I saw a hack for the water buckets when the metal handles do that to the buckets..drill a hole where the old hole is and use thick paracord for a handle.instead of metal. Didn't have to get rid of my bucket and so far they haven't broken again. Easier on the hands too!
Good tip!
Jason might, maybe, possibly be just a bit obsessed with collecting rain water. LOL
I enjoy your videos so much because you are a person of possibilities. When there is a problem, you find a way to resolve it without complaining or making excuses (unlike some others). It's always refreshing to see what you're gonna do next. I've been wondering whether something could be done with that storm-damaged water collection system. Thanks for taking us all along on your family's journey.
lets hope for some rain to fill up the ibc tote hugsssss
You're always thinking Jason! I like this about you. Reminds me of my youngest son...always got an idea to fix or solve something.👍💖👍
Jason, you have done a great job so far, having water collection stations around your property. I like the idea you have for doing the middle. Good luck, stay cool, and y'all have a Blessed day.
Add some more big water containers up top at the back end of your property and run pex downhill in a trench like you did off your well to high tunnel. Put frost frees where you need them in the middle of your field. Gravity feed them?
Honestly you have enough drop from the top to the middle you could put a tee at the tank up top (to keep a valve up there) and bury a water line down to a hydrant at the middle and you'd have plenty of pressure. It'd be similar to what Lumnah did in his pasture for water.
Great Observation Farmer Jason...... plan on 5-10 1000. To be strong with your reserves... you see how fast you go thru it. I watch these farmers waterin potatoes here out my back property, I cant fathom how much it takes just for this 1 crop circle. Our Water here is From Heaven. 150-250 year perc!! Thats documented, i drink right out the well its that good. But i also watch what i use . I also keep a stored amount for emergencies. Its been quite a learning experience for the past 4 years. I dont take it for granted anymore... prayers for more Rain over there🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏🐓🐔🐑
I've said this a few times already this year but I'm beyond shocked that a Californian didn't install two 1000 gallon reservoir as well as 2 totes on the shed and multiple on the big barn. What is always the first concern but Jason was consumed with the border fence so I can understand. I just thought after last years mini draught he would be concerned about water this year.
Hi, Jason! Your videos are enjoyable. Farming is hard work. You, Lorraine, and Penelope work faithfully keeping the family’s farm going. I admire your hard work and tenacity. I’m still praying for the turkeys
put a split down spot and fill both
Awesome video‼️ I hope you get rain soon. 💦
It’s amazing how far the land has evolved
Thanks for getting me hooked on the whole water catchment thing. It’s like a drug. lol
Oh and I have that pump as well, crapped the bed recently. Just sent back to Milwaukee for warranty repair yesterday. Hopefully yours holds up.
I love all Sow the Land videos!
I could use the water for my garden!! We need rain, oh, and someone to take care of my weeds while I'm gone!?!?!? God bless y'all and keep growing.
Good day to all.
If u got one at each end it's time for a middle water storage unit. I would say that u also should double or triple the covered area for collection. If able u should or could connect the 1000gal to another one in the middle of the property, also aiding in collection so that if one fills well the other is being used regularly, u can allow water to move over during a rain storm.
Homestead looks Awesome Jason
Blessing !!!!
Great video! Thanks video! Blessings!
great video👋👋👀👀❤❤🙏🙏
Great solutions & always planning ahead! Way to go! Blessings to everyone 🤗🇨🇦
My sister had a rain catcher 55 gal, she always said it would get full of mosquitos and stuff. The spout went directly into the top and she had screen around it. I've been hesitant to start one bc all the trouble she had with hers.
Need another tank bigger!
A company here in Michigan charges 100' x 100' x 15' deep for $6500.00 dollars not a bad deal.
Your editing and production is very nice. Always enjoy. Been watching for years.
You were so smart catching rain water, I have two rain barrels I have been saving, I have been in SC for 18 years also moved from California. This is the worst drought I have seen here, I save my rain barrel water for my 55 egg layers good job
Could you get another 1000 gal tank next to the other one & run hoses or even trench a line down to the middle so you still have gravity working for you?
Great insight and thought put into your water conservation program. Thank You for Sharing~!
Why not build another pavilion to collect rain from gutters close to the midpoint?
Your land is soo beautiful in summer❤❤❤❤
Greetings from Malaysia.... Keep inspiring.. :)
cheers! thank you so much. you too!
I’m also facing a 2nd summer with no rain and appreciate the content.
City water is expensive and my four 50 gallon rain barrels are no longer enough to sustain my urban homestead needs.
I’ve been thinking of that transfer pump you showed in the past. Thanks for featuring it again.
You are right. It is good to have options, a backup plan.
Tks for video. Loved the dance ...oh baby...when filling water buckets. lol. Ya this heat does not help in watering animals. Looking forward to the build of another water tower in the middle. Much love to ya. See and hear you today on podcast.
You need an ibc tote on a trailer with an animal drinker attached to the front of it so your animals can drink from it. Then all you have to do is move the ibc tank with your animals. When it gets empty. Just full it up again and repeat. Saves hauling water every day. I'd love to see you make one.
Great video!
Hi... Jason and Loraine thanks you for showing your video homestead bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing this ❤
Checking those handles all day.
GREETINGS AND BLESSINGS 🙏
THANK FOR SHARING ❤
Enjoyed the video 😊
Enjoyed your video❤
So glad!
No bucketis stronger than Firehouse Subs red pickle buckets. We have been growing in them for half a dozen years in the sun before cracking. Tomatoes, peppers.
You could borrow Bens tractor and dig a dug out or pond in the center of your land or tru a stab well or one where you blast pressure washer hose down a pvc pipe to dig .
Have you ever thought about maybe putting in another well on your property?
You have been needing the shelf for square buckets haha
Blue refilled has worked well.
Jason, you guys work so hard, why in the world do you have your animals spread so far out on your property. You are making it harder on yourself. But it is so refreshing to see you have pigs in the shade!!!!! When pigs don't have the woods that is brutal for them.
Do you have a stream on your property?
Thank you
good idea.
😊😊
I pray for rain fir all y'all. Now I'll take some heat relief. Been in the 100°s for a week with more to come. Before that, upper 90°s. As far north as I am, it's weird
Blessings, julie
Does the water get stale??
Quick and dirty!!! Yeah! 😂😂😂
The number of animals you have right now is impressive. They sure do require a lot of water on hot days. Do you still have plans for a pond in the future?
❤️
Those are some thirsty animals. 🤞 with get some rain.
We got 10 mins of drizzle again twice. But we were put on a flood watch because the towns around me got real rain. 😢
Have you done a price comparison of adding more trench and hydrant vs building a another rain catchement building?
You said that transfer was not for a farm what is it normally used for?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Consider trying a sand point well. I’d like to watch that!
Nooice! 😎 STOC
Love your videos! How do you keep the rainwater that you catch from getting too warm or growing algae? Blessings to your family!
you got a creek....use it.
I know Joel Salatin recommends putting many ponds on homesteads. Would that be an option for your land?
While rain water is ultimately better water for everything, have you considered putting a borehole down and equipping it with a windmill or solar pump and a couple of tanks?
what temperature is that water coming out of the 1000 gallon tank ??? I would put it in the shade...js
I would bet all the buckets breaking are not intended for outside use, by that I mean they have no UV protection and the sun degrades the plastic making it brittle. But yah there are some cheaply made real crappy ones too lol. hope you find good ones that last years.
Do you have enough fall from the big tank to just run gravity flow to where the chickens and pigs are?
Trying to think like Joel
Any updates /thoughts on building a pond?
Where did u get the black cover from?
Amazon
ty...good ole amazon! luv ur channel.
What’s the holdup on having a well dug ?
😊❤😊
Drill and build a windmill water pump?
Dumb question but why can’t you sink a hand pump half way through your property?
Content idea, dig a well and make it solar/manual.
增加儲水,減少水份蒸發。養豬的範圍增加一些陰涼的地方,讓小豬舒服一點。也可以嘗試用滴灌的方式,可以減少用水量。😁
Where do you get your dairy? How's your beef stocks?
Wonder how much it would cost to add more rain catchment structures on the property. I don't have animals on the farm, but I'm thinking about adding one to water the crops/flowers from. I need to go back and review your video where you built one and see how much it cost.
Maybe you might need to add two more 1000 gallon tanks because you know when you get cows they drink a lot of
How big are you going an to what tote down, and supply lines in the fields, to get closer to watering animals.
Jason, why no roosts for the meat chickens to sleep on?
They get heavy so fast that their legs can break. They don't really do well on a roost because they would have to balance and they are ungainly and grow so fast that they are practically naked on most of their body because the feathers can't grow in fast enough. It would be a hazard for them. They are so much different from a laying chicken.
Looks like you may be well served in either a larger tank or a secondary…
The first year with such projects always tell you what direction you need to head in.
But hey, that was awesome for such a small area roof collection!
Rain is the best for plants you get all that added nitrogen and other needed elements!
I have seen a homesteader living in the desert who made water-tanks out of large culvert pipe. Sadly, I cannot remember which homesteader.
I'd add three more 1000 gallon tanks.
Yes, that one 5 gallon bucket was complete trash! Dang it!
What is the temperature of the water out of the IBC and 1000 gal. Black tank during the hottest summer months.
💝💞💕💖
Put the rain collection at the highest point on your property, then you can gravity feed it wherever you need it?
My thoughts as well. The barn is a large collector but at a low point on the property and I believe it has power for a pump. Have tanks large enough to catch all the rain from a storm and then pump it up to large holding tanks at the top of the property and then gravity feed everything in between. It would take time to get it all in place but Jason you have a good headstart. I guess time and money but a well isn't cheap either and you save the well you have.
Why don't you build a shelf on that 2by4 for it to sit on
What about a small trailer for the IBC box to haul water with small truck or zero turn mower… just thinking😐
🚛🚛
Jason you need to make custom buckets with a better set up, I know there’s not a lot you can change but we need better bucket designs
you need bore hole for water
There’s no way that water is refreshing for the animals. Remember, you used black for two reasons, to keep it from growing algae and to keep it from freezing in the winter. How does it keep it from freezing in the winter?? The black color absorbs all colors in the light rays causing it to heat up. Now, not only does the ambient heat warm up that water but it also attracts more heat from the sun. Imagine going out in that heat and working all day to then go in the house to only have Luke warm to hotter water to drink. Try finding blue and white covers for those totes.
Why can't you do rain water harvesting ...Burying a huge tank, save water in that which will beneficial for you don't need drag like this and it won't get affected by wind..
