    You uploaded this 5 years ago, with no CGI, no music, no funky graphics and it was great. Such a simple and straightforward explanation that gets to the point with simple illustrations done on a PC.
    Thanks!

    The rule of offsides in soccer and hockey is to keep someone from camping around the goal, same thing as limited amount of time you can "be in the paint " in the NBA. I think

    • @Ink_Sack
      @Ink_Sack Před 4 lety +5

      Yes you are correct however I've always seen soccer offside as a way to stop the ball from being booted up the field and instead making the defenders actually able to have a chance to stop the other team. But basically the same thing as what you said

    • @kevintyrrell7409
      @kevintyrrell7409 Před 2 lety

      @Pike Hentry There's a solution to that problem. Literally just place a defender to prevent that person from getting a pass. Offsides just needlessly complicates the game and holds players back from scoring.

      @@kevintyrrell7409 You can't place a defender on a moving player not that simple.

    Very well done. I could never understand it when my son just explained it w/out visuals. I am a visual learner. I could see that there was a green guy and goalie missing, but i also understood that you were just trying to make the point. Whether it's 1 or 4 other guys in the offensive zone, it would still be off-side. Thank you. I will be looking at more of your videos to understand hockey better.

    That's awesome!!! Your video REALLY helps explain, something that many of us "novice" fans have had/continue to have a problem understanding... Would one of the main reasons for the "Offsides" rule/infraction, be that if it were not in place, players could essentially, "Cherry-Pick" at their respected offensive opposing ends, and the puck could be passed up relatively quickly for a "one on one", "two on one" scoring opportunity... ???

    To add, rule 630b allows Offside to be *WAIVED OFF* if a defensive player carries the puck into their OWN zone... meaning if a green player is offside, and pink for some reason carries it backwards from the neutral zone, into their own zone, that green player is now ONSIDE just to clarify. Some refs won't pick this up.

  • @Kombaiyashii
    @Kombaiyashii Před 8 lety

    Two questions:
    1. Can a player in the offensive zone pass backwards to the middle zone?
    2. When a player with the puck skates backwards to the middle zone leaving his team mates in the attacking zone, can his team mates go into the middle zone and then into the attacking zone without the puck being brought into the attacking zone first?

    • @TpsTerminator

    @sjagain Před 10 lety +5

    Your explanation made sense but the rule doesn't. Hockey would be much more exciting, and have more shots on goal if players were allowed to go past the blue line and receive a pass before the puck is over the line.

    • @nathanviebranz9111
      @nathanviebranz9111 Před 10 lety +1

      It's to prevent unfair cherry picking. If you wait by the blue line to cherry pick, it gives the opponent's players more of a chance to try and catch up quicker and try and stop you, rather than be camping by the circles and leaving the goaltender out to dry.

    • @JJTheBigDog
      @JJTheBigDog Před 9 lety
