You uploaded this 5 years ago, with no CGI, no music, no funky graphics and it was great. Such a simple and straightforward explanation that gets to the point with simple illustrations done on a PC. Thanks!
The rule of offsides in soccer and hockey is to keep someone from camping around the goal, same thing as limited amount of time you can "be in the paint " in the NBA. I think
Yes you are correct however I've always seen soccer offside as a way to stop the ball from being booted up the field and instead making the defenders actually able to have a chance to stop the other team. But basically the same thing as what you said
@Pike Hentry There's a solution to that problem. Literally just place a defender to prevent that person from getting a pass. Offsides just needlessly complicates the game and holds players back from scoring.
I know this video is super old but please don't ever delete it. This is exactly what I've been trying to explain to my daughter. It was simple and to the point. THANK YOU!!!
Thank you so much! I'm transitioning from roller hockey to ice hockey this spring and I have to learn icing and offsides. And you just helped me with one of them. Thank you!!
Thank you so so much, I'm starting to play hockey. This has really helped me because this was the ONLY rule I have never understood whilst watching. :) Thank you very much, I'll cherish this information when I'm playing
Very well done. I could never understand it when my son just explained it w/out visuals. I am a visual learner. I could see that there was a green guy and goalie missing, but i also understood that you were just trying to make the point. Whether it's 1 or 4 other guys in the offensive zone, it would still be off-side. Thank you. I will be looking at more of your videos to understand hockey better.
oh my gosh thank you! just recently started dating hockey player 6 months ago, never watched hockey before then I'm trying to understand all the rules this helped so much!!!
That's awesome!!! Your video REALLY helps explain, something that many of us "novice" fans have had/continue to have a problem understanding... Would one of the main reasons for the "Offsides" rule/infraction, be that if it were not in place, players could essentially, "Cherry-Pick" at their respected offensive opposing ends, and the puck could be passed up relatively quickly for a "one on one", "two on one" scoring opportunity... ???
thanks next time I try to explain hockey to my GF at the game, I am just going to your youtube page. Granted I only get 1 bar at the Madhouse, so maybe I will just have to wait... Great job.
To add, rule 630b allows Offside to be *WAIVED OFF* if a defensive player carries the puck into their OWN zone... meaning if a green player is offside, and pink for some reason carries it backwards from the neutral zone, into their own zone, that green player is now ONSIDE just to clarify. Some refs won't pick this up.
Two questions: 1. Can a player in the offensive zone pass backwards to the middle zone? 2. When a player with the puck skates backwards to the middle zone leaving his team mates in the attacking zone, can his team mates go into the middle zone and then into the attacking zone without the puck being brought into the attacking zone first?
1. Yes, but then alll player need leave offensive zone, delaying offside. 2. yes, but if come back in offensive zone without puck the automacaly in delay offside and need leave attacking zone again,
1. it doesn't matter for his explanations 2. it's theoretically possible, because there is powerplay and you're allowed to take your goalie out. so you fail trying to be a smartass.
Your explanation made sense but the rule doesn't. Hockey would be much more exciting, and have more shots on goal if players were allowed to go past the blue line and receive a pass before the puck is over the line.
It's to prevent unfair cherry picking. If you wait by the blue line to cherry pick, it gives the opponent's players more of a chance to try and catch up quicker and try and stop you, rather than be camping by the circles and leaving the goaltender out to dry.
no, i'm not bitter, but someone with that opinion clearly never thought of the reason for such a rule and is better off watching american show-wrestling or nascar racing. your "opinion" is just a sign of low intelligence.
+TraumaER yes offsides are very boaring , at hockey games is more worst than soccer , i play nhl in console , and fortunettaly we have an option to disable the offside , and the game is more awesome
+Noah Roller I guarantee you if you take it away, games will be higher scoring, more exciting, and have higher attendance. I guess NHL players are ok with being the 5th highest paying pro sport in America (MLB, NBA, NFL, PGA).
+Noah Roller Anything is better over the snooze fest that NHL hockey is now on TV. And no players wouldn't be waiting to pass because that would give the other team a 1 up advantage on offense.

@@kevintyrrell7409 You can't place a defender on a moving player not that simple.

Thank you. That was very easy to understand. The simple graphics were just fine and I now completely understand the off-sides concept!!
That was the best and easiest explanation I have ever seen. Amazing how even hockey "experts" cannot simply explain the offsides rule.
Finally I can watch my newly-discovered sport without wondering "Why?!?"... so thank you!
Thank you so much! I'm transitioning from roller hockey to ice hockey this spring and I have to learn icing and offsides. And you just helped me with one of them. Thank you!!
Thank you, I finally understand it :D
This was the best video I have seen on this so far. Great job. Do icing next.
Best explanation on CZcams
Thanks for taking the time to educate. Knowledge is power!

oh my gosh thank you! just recently started dating hockey player 6 months ago, never watched hockey before then I'm trying to understand all the rules this helped so much!!!
Thank you!! So we’ll explained!! I’m 56! It’s about time I really understood this!
thank you so much im the only girl on my team this year and i needed to know what offsides was so i could really shine
Thanks man! I have been so confused over this call
great explanation understood it immediately!
Thanks for making this video. Very effective use of the tech you had available
Awesome explanation man! Thank you so much!
Thank you! This was a lot of help. Just picked up NHL14 and i had no idea what i was doing wrong. :O
Thanks for the explanation, that was really clear!
Thanks for this info I have always had a hard time understanding offside now I understand.
This has been very helpful. Been getting frustrated with my hockey video game.
I really hope you make it all about breaking down the rules in all sports including rugby!!
Thanks- I had considered it the same as soccer but never really lined up. About time I looked it up. Thanks again.
Very good for that video and explanation at the time it was made, especially for old technology
Great job ! Thank you very much ! It’s been useful
Thank you, I'm watching this right before my game!
That is a great explanation thank you
Thank you so much for explaining it in a way that I can actually understand! You should be a teacher!
That was simple and helpful. Thank you.
Thank you this has really helped with my hockey
very helpful! great explanation.

Thanks for explaneing of side rule
thank u so much this is the best explanation ever!.... can u make more on other rules like icing? pllzzzz
10 years later and I'm using this to explain to my husband the offside rule
This was so helpful.
well explained good job!
that makes much more sense now. Thank you!
Helpful! Thanks!
This was so bush league and yet it was absolutely perfect. Great job!
thanks next time I try to explain hockey to my GF at the game, I am just going to your youtube page. Granted I only get 1 bar at the Madhouse, so maybe I will just have to wait... Great job.
Such a pain in the ass rule..Thank you for the explanation tho!
its to prevent a very linear strategy. trust me, hockey would be sooooooooooo boring without this rule.
Thx a lot really helped me understand lol😂😂
Awesome thanks!!!! Can you do this for other plays and such?
Thank you!
Awesome. Thank you;)
very helpful thanks
thnx for the video.
Soooo helpful
that helped a lot ! thaanks :)
Thank you
This helped me

thank you soo much man! :D
but the rule makes total sense tho, otherwise players would just have one guy hanging around in the offensive zone waiting for a pass
who's here after that offside call from avs-oilers
Trying to learn the game because playoff hockey is amazing but I'm so very confused haha
Yup!
Good Video =)
Can you please make a video like this about icing?
this is perfect
Thank you.
thank you
great!!!!!!!!!!!
Ty :)
If a face-off is at either of the four dots without the circles, how far must the players stand from the two facing off?
Two questions:
1. Can a player in the offensive zone pass backwards to the middle zone?
2. When a player with the puck skates backwards to the middle zone leaving his team mates in the attacking zone, can his team mates go into the middle zone and then into the attacking zone without the puck being brought into the attacking zone first?

2. yes, but if come back in offensive zone without puck the automacaly in delay offside and need leave attacking zone again,
yes then your team mates frost your underwear with a fire extinguisher after game...
dude good xample for ofsides
This like taking away a fastbreak in the nba....or callin bak a hundred yard pass
The puck has to be the 1st one through the blue line
The green team is missing two players and a goalie! :)
cause that's the defencive end.. why are you here?
1. it doesn't matter for his explanations 2. it's theoretically possible, because there is powerplay and you're allowed to take your goalie out. so you fail trying to be a smartass.
What about intentional offsides?
3 lamest rules in sports,
3. Soccer offside
2 Ice Hockey offside
1 Field Hockey, Must score a goal with in in the "d" zone.
Good explanation using Pong. 😂
Helpful even in 2018. USA!
i made it 1k bro
fucking crude but effective.
Finally I can NHL 13 without getting pissed off. Still don't get why they have the rule though
haha very cool
I'm too dumb for this
Simple enough. I don't knoe why I am playing the game and couldn't recognize that.
This lol me play for 6 years more than half a decade
Green has no goalie!
Hi
more confused than ever
Its not dumb, It would be too easy to pass the puck into offensive zone. Icing and Offside encourage teamwork.
You lost me at magenta
Your explanation made sense but the rule doesn't. Hockey would be much more exciting, and have more shots on goal if players were allowed to go past the blue line and receive a pass before the puck is over the line.
It's to prevent unfair cherry picking. If you wait by the blue line to cherry pick, it gives the opponent's players more of a chance to try and catch up quicker and try and stop you, rather than be camping by the circles and leaving the goaltender out to dry.
yeah, all that matters for a game to be exciting are shots on goal, no, sorry, you're just to stupid to get the reason for the rule...
Are you that bitter of a person that you need to act like a BITCH when someone has an opinion you don't agree with? Troll somewhere else "Little DOG"!
no, i'm not bitter, but someone with that opinion clearly never thought of the reason for such a rule and is better off watching american show-wrestling or nascar racing. your "opinion" is just a sign of low intelligence.
There would be a lot of breakaways like 15 feet from the goal
Uh kinda wierd
This rule ruins the game. At least in the video games, I don't watch hockey
What a dumb rule
Turned it off as soon as he said magenta. You sure you're a hockey dude?
Offsides is the worst thing to happen to soccer and hockey. Like if you agree!
+TraumaER yes offsides are very boaring , at hockey games is more worst than soccer , i play nhl in console , and fortunettaly we have an option to disable the offside , and the game is more awesome
+Nuno Botelho Haha!
+Noah Roller I guarantee you if you take it away, games will be higher scoring, more exciting, and have higher attendance. I guess NHL players are ok with being the 5th highest paying pro sport in America (MLB, NBA, NFL, PGA).
