Kilian, thanks for posting this, it absolutely made my day. I soloed the Matterhorn as a young man and walked the ridge up to the metal cross, just as you did. I’m now an old guy recovering from cancer surgery but you took me back. Thanks, mate.
the weather up there is such, that anything that is not almost concrete hard had been blown away long ago. It's called firn, and it's dependable (as much as anything could be in the mountains)
I'd be on all fours. Lol. Seriously, I can't imagine being that sure footed especially when there is a layer of snow, to not know if there were wobbly rocks or a slight gap underneath. Knowing my luck I'd be arse over tit and off the edge in no time.
Fisheye lenses are such amazing visual exaggerators. Despite knowing that, it's like a good optical illusion. You can't help but to feel that those angle are as the fisheye shows them, and that makes me squirm in my seat watching this.
Not only that trusting your footing but also they trust in the snow like as if it's really packed tight there and if I'm my eyes are playing tricks on me it looks like there is a cliff on both sides with a deadly drop about at least a thousand feet
@@deionchampion8431 climbers spend thousands of hours doing their sport. And this is shot with a wide angle lens, so it does look a tiny bit crazier than it really is, but probably not by much.
+Bobby Patton No matter how trained you are it is easy to stumble or slip, I see this as a show off. I did an easy 1200m ascent a week ago and even dry rocks were very slippery let alone these with ice and snow.
@@stevey6294 how would you protect it? Snow pickets? Easy terrain does not need to be protected. Protecting easy terrain makes travel too slow and being slow is dangerous. You just a noob in the sport.
So easy calling someone on the internet a noob these times. Watch that easy terrain again. I reckon you're not a climber by a mile. It is highly unresponsible to run on a ridge at 4,500 meters. And yes, very likely he's roped with someone behind.
Yea people have terrible taste in music. The music needs to either be subtle or appropriate for the video or not there at all. Maybe it's just annoying dubstep.
Because the extreme sports junkies don't connect to nature the way that explorers and climbers of the past did. They regard the mountains as a child would a piece of playground equipment. Since there is no reverence in their souls, their music is irreverent as well. Add the commercial influence of TNF, Patagonia, GoPro, etc. and you get this schizophrenic, fast cut, disjointed sensibility designed to appeal to Yuppies and children of same for the money they will spend on products.
Great Kilian it is beautiful ! If you could give us some details about the gear you have ? Which shoes ? Which crampons (brand?type?) ? It could be great. Thanks a lot.
ProlificThreadworm no..... you don’t need a silly fisheye, you just need an ultra wide rectilinear lens, like this, much more impressive (see end of vid) czcams.com/video/9NE5IzEu-C0/video.html
Amazing balance, agility and confidence !! I understand if one were to attempt this "roped off" with a professional guide, if the client falls one way, the guide jumps off the other side to act as a counter weight so they both don't tumble down one side. I suppose one falls into Italy, the other into Switzerland. I'm not quite sure what happens after that, or how the guide rescues himself and the client. Maybe they remain in place and the guide radio's Air Zermatt rescue for a helicopter retrieval.
Yes, of course! I did not mean to imply there would be a conditional rescue, merely that the "Horn" is on the border of two countries, and I believe the summit spine runs parallel, so one side falls to each. I think the snowy side (left) is Italy as the more rugged side less apt to hold snow faces Zermatt and Switzerland...
Sounds as good a plan as any, I suppose. With the rate extreme sports are going, I wonder how much longer it will be before someone RUNS the ridge to the cross in a wingsuit with skis strapped to their back. Then straps on the skis and drops down the left side until they either run out of terrain or become airborne, at which point they eject the skis, spread out the wingsuit and perform a landing in the valley without a parachute by gliding into either water or a half mile runway of haybales!!
Martin C. I would have to say there's been more information/knowledge exchanged and shared that merely that Martin! Any thoughts on the climb itself past the fact the Matterhorn does indeed share two countries?
The sound and feel, the surface gives physical feedback to your feet. Enough time on varied terrain teaches you to instinctively understand the medium your are on to a great extent.

Sometimes I trip when I walk to my fridge in the middle of the night.
That music makes me want to jump off that mountain.
I just wanna jump off
You can always adjust the volume.
🤣🤣🤣Thank you!!!
bup beep bup beep beep beep
I once walked all the way up four stories without touching the handrail once.
🥳😂🤣
reading that made me as anxious as watching this video!
Watching someone walk along a doubly exposed ridge on fresh snow that looks like it could break away stresses me the fuck out.
Me too.. I'm so scared of heights it was hard to watch.

@@mezmerya5130 , ah, cool, thanks for the insight on that sketchy, but apparently solid ridge!
One mistake on this path and you wont be able to choose such music again
At least there's an upside
Best comment on the vid
Thank fuck for that!!!
kindof like an insurance premium for the internet!
That is insane! I almost had a panic attack watching this
same - my feet feel tingly
Me too had to watch one eye closed ,scary ,total disregard for death .
Absolutely terrifying.
Same here. I started breathing hard and sweating
Spine tingling to watch this. You are both very courageous and skilled.
Guy is walking like he's out on a stroll in the park. 😅
It's like he's in a rush to get somewhere, mad.
They’re the first one’s too shout for help if they get injured tho.

Ah, that's the life - casually walking on the summit ridge, one foot in Italy and the other foot in Switzerland.
Nature pushed your balance, shortening your music taste...
I hope you have many happy years of mountains ahead of you!
My vertigo kicked in just while watching!

Beautiful!
How my grandparents went to school
amazing! thank you for the video! i wish you stay healthy from now on! no more broken bones!
Amazing Matterhorn!
I was scared watching.
Dai Griffith So was I. I thought I would keep hearing that misic even after the video ended.
If that had been me then there would have been a brown line in the snow .
That was pretty dang awesome!
It's breathtaking indeed🙏. But never ever lose your awe towards this kind of magical places.. 😉
Nice. It really gives the feeling of being there.
Wow. You really trust your footing

Dude this was so sick! Thank you very much!
It is so amazing
Looks like a good walk, might take the dog up there this afternoon
Your a freak of Nature...fearless , thats why your the best in the Universe
Un extra terrestre exceptionnel !
This is the MOST INSANE video I've ever watched.
My palms are sweaty just watching.
Why do these great videos always have some garbage music playing over it?

CZcams music policies is shit, and can block the monetization of your account.
Good god brother, sick! Was just in Zermatt and amazed at the climbers tackling the horn. Good work!
Lucas K : 'the horn'.... .what a dork.
La montaña que veo desde mi casa, la próxima vez que estés por Zermatt avisa, sería un placer conocerte! grande Kilian! eres inmortal!!
A true goat 🐐
You Are a super Crazy Man! And i Love it! Ahaha Go Kilian
This is absolutely bonkers !!
Amazing, but I agree others about the music. 😁
People climb mountains to get away from shit music like that..
this was amazing
AWESOME!! You're always an inspiration. I'm curious what shoes you were wearing or would now wear for this?
Idolo 🔝💪🏻❤️
Wow, that looked steep! Nice video

Magnifique 👌. Et top la musique 🎶 => Circ - The Night we Danced without a Care

🙈crazy😄
Mi vengano davvero i brividi!😱🥶😰
This is pure insanity wow
Very nice
It is a trick of the wide lense to make it look extra crazy steep on both sides.
Great footage. Not sure on music sounds like the smurfs near the end?
Especatucar, eres molt gran
The music really belies the activity being done, there's a real contrast there lol
I am on that video!!:-) crazy!! haha
My palms just got sweaty watching this old video!
Nice!
Crazy
Great video, except for the utterly stupid music
I did that years ago...
I wonder how and why !!!! 😁 😁
Riprese con Go pro da paura!
Video Meraviglioso, per noi che lo guardiamo
It would be more impressive without the fish-eye lense.
Yeah when you can't see the steep edges
And the music
It would be more impressive if he wing suited off the mountain.

I've thought this myself, just how accurately the video is portraying it. But it still looks pretty hardcore. I wouldn't trust the snow.
One day. Tidy vid. 👍
Gad! Video recovered from the body?
Sick 😳
I was scared sitting on a chair! Real crazy! Like!
There is no way I could do this... I am such a klutz. Fortunately, I'd probably fall off before I got high enough to die.
Oh you have to have a steady damned head to traverse that ridge so surely!!!
Wow! Another amazing video Kilian. Do you ever feel nervous when moving along those ridges?
Absolutely terrifying
My penchant for stubbed toes would kill me for sure up there.

When they both stop the fall the guide should be able to anchor the rope and then help the other climber up if he is unable to ascend by himself.

Just a little morning jaunt before breakfast.
Spolied by the music and a rusty cross!

Don't you use harness?
I rode the matterhorn once at Disneyland, but I don't remember this part...
Genuine question from a non climber but How do you know that the ice/snow won’t just slide off the rocks?
