- There are a lot of differences between the Japanese (Doubutsu No Mori E+ / Animal Forest E+) and English Port (Animal Crossing: Population Growing)of Animal Crossing. In this video, I hope to explain and showcase those differences.

Imagine being so good at localizing a game that the original creators wanted to port the localization back to its original language with its new features
Localizing, not translating.
Power rangers is the only thing that I can think of, that did it also.
and then there’s a fan translation back into english… it never ends lol
It's not the only time. Metal Gear Solid 1 has "Metal Gear Solid Integral", Zelda 1 has one that really _is_ called "The Legend of Zelda 1", Sonic Adventure has "Sonic Adventure International", Mario 64 has "Super Mario 64 - Rumble Pak Support", and there's probably others too.
That unboxing next to the water stresses me out
Same
Ok cool glad it wasn't just me. One fuck up and it's ruined.
Ikr and it's also distracting from what she's actually showing us.
i think the fountain is futher away from that platform, we just cant see the floor
guess im not the only one
Tom Nook in his jammies isn't something I expected to see today. I'd love if that feature came back.
it actually could in new horizons, that would be the best returning feature in the game
But if it did return in New Horizons it would be the nooklings and then I would feel bad :(
@Z mega009 Resseti's room can be found in the city in City Folk, and can be placed as a town project in New Leaf, you're aware, right? That never went anywhere.
ikr, some people can't play every morning yaknow, nintendo.
@@lattemaklen and what's good is this game will have time and date locked so no one rushes to an event. I could be wrong but they said the events are updated download event and are removed when that seasonal event ends which is great to stop people from exploiting. Best to just wait until midnight. Weekend is best so you don't miss out your weekly activities...
fans are translating the game that's a japanese translation of the english translation of the japanese game?
Yeah cuz the bastards kept adding stuff to the new versions of the game instead of just translating :(
Correct.
@1998SIMOMEGA When "Animal Forest" was translated into English, it became "Animal Crossing" and a bunch of other features were added that were exclusive to it. Then, when Animal Crossing was translated back to Japanese, it became "Animal Forest e+" and a bunch of new features were added that were exclusive to it.
It's like a wholesome version of the third gathers: backstroke of the west.
I love how shes just filming this in the middle of Madison square park ????
Princess Jello I’m surprised that you recognized the location haha. I’m the one who filmed it, and Star provided the commentary. She lives in Japan, so I thought she would do a better job commentating the unboxing than I could :)
@@WilbosWorld please tell me why you would film something that wrings out the anxiety in me
WilbosWorld I mean the commentary didn’t really add much?? But overall still a fine video!
@@Tunabreath2001 I'm still recovering from that anxiety attack. Like, how close was that to falling in the water oh god it's coming back
9:26 so this is where Nook got the idea for the island getaway package in new horizon
Yes
huh
I realized that too
The plot thickens!!
I find it weird hearing people calling it "Animal Crossing: Population Growing" these days. We just called it Animal Crossing back in the day, and I never heard the "population growing" part until very recently.
edit: I had no reason to be weird about it, it was cringe. it's good it helps distinguish the game from later entries in the series. I agree with that.
it's not even called "Population Growing". That's just the tagline on the box art.
People started calling the original "Population Growing" to make it easier to differentiate from CF, WW, and NL. Because just calling it "Animal Crossing" got confusing.
@@ImaginedRain I get it, even calling it "Animal Crossing for the GameCube" can be a mouthful. That and "GameCube Animal Crossing" has been my go to for a very long to differentiate them. "Population Growing" is a cute subtitle for it.
It's kind if like how people call Halo Halo Combat Evolved now even though I never found it confusing to just refer to it as Halo since all subsequent games have a number, subtitle, or both.
I just call any animal crossing game ``Animal Crossing´´
😂
I feel like the island resort is actually related to Animal Crossing New Horizons! Tom Nook finally has the budget for the resort and has sent you there for testing. Eventually more people (the villagers ) move in and it becomes a booming success! I believe the island in New Leaf isn’t Tom Nook’s... But the island in New Horizons is!
I like to pretend it's the player's lol
Boom spot on
You're looking way too deeply into this x-x Highly doubt they ever expected to even make more then the first game when this first came out.
@@aliciafraser1835 they're just saying a theory and it's a good one. All they're saying is Tom Nook finally accomplished his dream.
@@PurpleHazePro And I'm just saying it's a silly theory. It's a game about relaxation, that was developed by a lonely homesick man. I highly doubt that's what he was thinking about at the time.
These are some of the nicest comments I’ve ever received. Thank you so much for the support on this video!
I hate this video
6:22 Sylvana (the squirrel) is actually on New Leaf Welcome Amiibo and has been confirmed for New Horizons
Her data has also been found in Happy Home Designer
Thank you for pointing this out! I apologize for including her in the picture. People should like this comment for visibility.
@@WilbosWorld You're welcome! There's no need to apologize because honestly, she's a really confusing character. It's nice to be able to help, thanks for being polite.
@@WilbosWorld couldn't you pin this comment?
Frett was also been added to New Horizons with the 2.0 update and has his own amiibo card!
Japan: remember douboutsu no mori e+
people: yeah
Japan: what if we made that on 3ds
people: uhh
people: ok
Gamer Bau can’t believe we spoke with an entire country
isabelle And you find a way to somehow be in every town
That's basically what happened
Brendan Lewis she changed her name
Brendan Lewis Calm down! You have better things to do than argue in a youtube comment section.
...Okay, you probably dont. And neither do I.
I've always wondered what the Reset Center looked like. That's pretty cool that they actually implemented a way to get there.
you can get there in new leaf too
@Stix N' Stones i remember back in 2016 i was plating around 7 or 8pm on my wii and the cones were moved. I was amazed by it, and got a golden shovel!
They didn’t remove the island on the English version, just changed how you get access to it. I remember you had to have a GBA and a link cable, but not specifically what you had to do with it.
I can concur that Animal Crossing did have "Animal Island" in it. You just needed to connect your GBA to your GameCube without a game in it to have Kapp'n to appear at the dock. If it was your first trip there, you got to name the island.
The contents of the island is virtually the same (1 islander chosen randomly, a blank flag & a community hut with 2 blue + 2 red Hawaiian Shirts inside & perpetual summer). Since the island is community property, ANYBODY (& I do mean ANYBODY) can modify the island however they like. One extra feature is that you could upload a copy of your island to your GBA & play with the islander as you leave. This was a way to get some exclusive items (there's 2 NES game one-sided this way) & allows you to take the island to a friend's town. When they hit the dock, the game will download the current state of the island on the GBA. If it was your native island, the changes become permanent. If it was a guest island, you have to re-upload the island back to the GBA & return it to your guest to update things in their game... OR NOT & have that version of the island vanish like a dream (potential duplication abuse here).
The Island was a nice side thing that you could play with outside the game (just like borrowing the pattern tools from there Able Sisters).
I was looking for this comment, thank you. I always enjoyed going to the island
@@TStodden I loved borrowing the design tools from the Able Sisters. I spent many hours on Animal Island too. Just a fun feature for having the GameCube, GBA, and the Cable that connects them. I was hoping that the Wii and DS would do that wirelessly, but they dropped the ball on that. Although one can move from Wild World to City Folk.
I'm outside of town in my dad's farm spending the time during quarantine, all I have is my switch, animal crossing, and shit internet connection,so while i wait for this video to load so i can see it in 240p,i must say animal crossing has been a very good companion to me,such a relaxing game. Also the farm is pretty run down so I'm helping my dad repair and stuff,I'm getting some stardew valley vibes out here, hope everyone is doing well.
stay safe homie
this is the most wholesome comment on youtube
I still can’t get over that zoom in as Tom Nook slowly waddles over to you.
Thank you so much for letting me be in your video! I had a great time. EDIT: It’s just my voice in the video, not my footage! Haha
It's neat to see how many of these ideas just ended up getting expanded upon later on in the series.
I have a bad feeling Nintendo will send that person doing the English translation a C&D letter either right before they release the finished version or right after. A lot of hard work down the drain, unfortunately.
Bl00dyCh33rry Yeah it’s very possible. Although Cuyler isn’t distributing the actual game, only a patch for it.
They didn't complain about the Mother 3 translation. So maybe we will be lucky?
They only call for a cease and desist when the project is something they are already working on themselves, or at least have plans for. I seriously doubt they'd ever re-release or remake the original N64 Animal Forest.
I mean, it's Nintendo's right to do that. It's their game and their IP.
@@TheBlazeinPanther They allowed the Mother 3 translation intentionally because they know that any official release would have to be censored anyway, and they wouldn't make a dime off it. It's already widely repro'd and pirated anyway, plus no one would like the censorship necessary to make it T rated (the only way they COULD make a profit on it)
It was confirmed by the translator himself, Clyde "Mato" Mandelin, that Nintendo even knew about the translation and they've done nothing for over a decade becuase they will never release Mother 3.
7:23 Tom Nook: Please, walk slowly
Villager: no, I don't think I will
This is so cool, I can’t wait to play the translated version once it’s finished! Something I find interesting is that, in the original dobutsu no mori, there wasn’t an able sisters or a museum.
I'd love if that E+ version of the title screen was activated when you got a perfect town
This is a great video. I especially loved learning about the island already existing so much earlier than New Leaf! It even had the song! Really neat stuff. Also waking up Tom Nook was adorable.
6:27 Sylvana (the squirrel) is in new leaf/new horizons.
Oh, thank you for pointing that out! I must of mistaken her for a different squirrel that was cut from the series.
@@WilbosWorld You were probably thinking of Bliss! A normal red and yellow squirrel.
@@ericktaht7127 Bliss is still in the game, her original name was Caroline, the name got changed to Bliss during translation then it went back to being Caroline
I’ve known about this game for over like 12 years at least, but assumed I would never see it in video form because of it being a Japanese exclusive! I always thought of it kind of as a “myth” lol. So I’m so so so glad to have found this video! It’s so well done, informative, and fun! Thank you! It’s made my whole day!
Actually AC's been around for 19 years. I wonder what Nintendo will do for it's 20th anniversary.
Quentin Gilanian I’m aware of how long it’s been around :) but I didn’t know about *this specific* game until a few years later
0:29 It's just the subtitle of the game. So the game is still named Animal Crossing
kapp’n’s early cucumber song
my gosh
this is just game changing
"here are features that never made it outside of japan" *proceeds to talk about how they appeared in later games anyway that are outside of japan* XD
whats odder is that some of these features were in the Gamecube game.
Animal Forest e+ is getting translated into English.
So, Animal Forest got translated and ported to English and then it was translated back to Japanese and now it is being translated to English again?
Yup hahaha.
They decided to add new features to animal forest e+ instead of just translating it back to japanese
So, Animal Forest came out on the N64 first, got ported to the GameCube, was translated into English and had new features added, then it got translated back into Japanese and got even MORE features?
That’s honestly really interesting.
And that game is now being translated into English
Tom Nook in his PJs and squinty eyes is hilarious! Also, does he sleep on the ground? Or is there a secret basement in his shop?
This... Came out in Japan before the original would reach Europe, that's how long the localization process took...
Holy crap I didn’t realize Sylvana was a cut villager that hasn’t returned in years. Sweet I have her in New Horizons.
Same with Carrie
I never realized she was a cut villager
She returned in new leaf
Roy Number 1 I know that :)
Great video, but 1:22 who in their right mind would handle all that rare and valuable stuff on the very edge of a fountain instead of, oh I don't know, the comfort of their own home?! I get you've got an "aesthetic" or whatever but this is just too far! Imagine accidentally tipping something over or the wind blowing it away...

Very glad to get this in my recommended, hope that it gets more attention !
Pls tell me I'm not the only one getting anxiety from that scenic unboxing shots...
Because if it was me doing that...
I MIGHT FRICKIN DROP SOMETHING IMPORTANT INTO THE WATER SOMEHOW.
That’s fascinating how the international version ended up being different enough that Nintendo decided to sell it to Japanese audiences. And now we have international audiences translating it again!
I remember, as a kid, reading about a lot of these mechanics online except people were passing them off as features of the english release. I always assumed they were all fake since I grew up with pokemon and got exposed to plenty of false rumors already through that medium. Really cool to actually see them shown off like this. Great video :)
I came here because of Animal crossing new Horizons. It’s great too see how much things changed since first game. I think Animal crossing New Horizons took some of the stuff from this game.
Solid video, very high quality! Great content!!
You forgot a feature. Animal Crossing e+ in Japan supports the SD Card Adaper only avaiable in Japan. It was one of only 2 games that supported the device and it never left Japan.
A bunch of cut characters were actually added back with New Horizons, which is pretty awesome
This video deserves so much more loveeee!
I love the sleepy Nook
I remember always visiting that island, it is weird how much different the method of getting there is in this version. That was like the only thing I used my link cable for.
What a perfect video, thanks for this!
I love how the hedgehog logo at 2:35 just straight up looks like sonic’s logo
It really does wow
ah yes, the "least" anxiety inducing unboxing - the unboxing of a rare game next to a fountain
@@polocatfan it's just pussy ass bitches freaking out over nothing
This video deserves way more love!!!!!!!
Underrated channel and video!!!
The e+ title theme slaps tho
i had NO idea about the publics work projects . this is mind blowing
I had never heard of this version. It's incredible to see something I hadn't seen in a game I played for years.
I bought the island from nook a long time ago, but never went there. Im making it my own cannon that the island in New horizons is the one I bought
Interesting how a few of these are in New Horizons!
Awesome video, keep it up! :)
This is like the best version of the GameCube game! I love it! I also love the modified music as it sounds more rich
Great video!! Keep up the good work :) . Let us know when the translated e+ version is out!
In a few days actually, January 1st 2020! Here is the release trailer: czcams.com/video/CcP7XqUTvlg/video.html
it’s been like 5 months and only 29k views?!??? it’s such a good video it deserves more
Amazing video! I didn’t know about all these fun changes they added!
9:55 The island became a full fledged resort in New Horizons...roughly many entries later.
I feel terrible for interpreting Kap'n's Cucumber song as lewd.
Why Japanese has always good things?
6:57 That explain the metal part on the building. 8:11 We have a Ressetti's center in City Folk, minus the hole.
Ike has a son called Poko. He is one of the few that have a relative. I wish they expand a story on this.
Nice Video Bro! 🙂
dang a long time ago I saw a another video where someone entered tom nooks after closing using the shovel trick I always just thought it was a mockup or something never thought it would be a jp game only feature
Top quality video mate
There’s 9 ish (its 12:05 am March 11 in Australia at the moment) days until new horizons comes out and I’m beyond excited. I played animal crossing wild world on my Nintendo DS and DSi when I was a kid 6-12 maybe and I didn’t fully understand the game but now I’m so hype to play such a cool chill game on the switch as an adult, where I can fully appreciate all the features
I'm so excited too!
6:27 Frett (the dog) is coming back!
Awesome video! :)
Why did Nintendo love cutting perfectly fine villagers from games? Like come in, those had fairly good designs!
so let me get this straight: the original animal forest was translated to English, back to Japanese, and now back to English with more features added each time??
9:48 Oh boy... and we thought it had to deal with new leaf. This didn’t age well XD
2:26 The one on the right shouldn’t have been cut! She’s so cute!
2:28 I've never seen the inside cover of e+ before, only the cardboard box. That's so cool!
12:48 even though I'm sure it was annoying that you couldn't get footage. I think it kind of shows how unique and alive animal crossing really is!
i wish i had the older games i only ever played new leaf (and it's very hard to find old ac games in belgium, i've looked online too but the best i found is a second hand wild world gamecard only for €40)
Then don’t live in Belgium simple
Awesome video
This needs more likes.
1:37 Oh! I saw my favorite villager, Walker!
I wish Microsoft of America was like Nintendo of Japan.
I know at least one of the villagers you showed on screen while saying all the ones you were showing were cut after e+ was brought back in New Leaf's "Welcome Amiibo update"
It's been almost two years since this (awesome, by the way) video. Are there any updated news about how's going the fan translation project, please?
The last update we got was in June of this year, the owner of the project has decided to make all of the patches free 1 month after the last patreon update is released which should be soon. Sorry that I can't offer much more info!
@@WilbosWorld No, don't apologize! You're the only reason I even know about this project in the first place.
But not sure I understand correctly the answer. The author will set the patches free, but only for those suscribed to their patreon?
after ages of wanting to play the e+ fan translation, i figured out a way to play it on wii :) i really liked playing the original English version so im excited for all the new features
Now Nook never sleeps
0:55
Such a wonderful way to type
The bit about islands... Tom Nook's end game has clearly always been the Deserted Island Getaway Package. 😂😊

1:37 WALKER-
It would also be cool to have a proper English version of Animal Forest; but it's probably not gonna happen.
Animal Forest does have a pretty good English translation, but it's a bit buggy when you open up your inventory, it's still really playable tho
its going to happen (not official tho)
2:59 His name is not Cuyler that is just his profile name! His real name is Jeremy Olsen!
2:34
I thought that was Sonic on this disc! Hahahahaha
Going to a private island? That sound oddly familiar... I dont know where from though...
The reset station is so cool 😮
Poor Nobuo (a lazy penguin) was also removed.
Would the two unused seasonal pallettes happen to be called "nuke" in the game's data? I ask because they look a lot like what I've seen of a special e+ feature, where you can actually save a copy of your town to an SD card via the official memory card slot adapter, and then lend it out to someone either physically or over the internet. They can then play around in it to their heart's content and then return it to you. In other words, it's like an inverted version of the travelling mechanic, where instead of your character temporarily leaving your save file, it's your _town_ doing so. You can technically still visit your town while it's lent-out, but it'll be frozen in time and, if I heard right, limited in functionality since the system has no way of knowing what changes the person you lent the town to have made to the town until it comes back. While in this frozen state, where even the ingame clock doesn't move a tick, unique lifeless pallettes are used as a constant visual reminder that your town not currently "alive" on your system at the moment.
I love how Fre- I mean Champagne was brought back
Omg! I want this new version in English.
There were a couple of the features in the American version but most of them are long gone
So thats where Tom learned to buy islands
The person translating Animal Crossing E+ English patch released a beta version of the translation
OMG. This yellow package and the website are reminiscent of my forest life...
