True about van size. When I first started talking about van life, I thought my husband wanted what I wanted. High roof van, big fridge freezer, large sink, stove oven combo and an enclosed bathroom space.. But to get all that., we needed to get rid of alot, store some things, rent the house so we could afford ti see this beautiful country we live in…..come to find out, he isn’t ready. Poop. So I bought a minivan,, and when he wants to go with me I hook up the popup trailer and off we go.. I am fine camping alone, I can always find someone to hike with.

It truly is a lifestyle choice. Thanks for sharing.

You've convinced me! I need a used, hopefully, Leisure Travel Vans Wonder B+ RL, Rear Lounge with a Murphy bed, dry bath, separate shower, galley, and two separate living/working areas!!

In love with the vanlife idea .Always loved vans but sadly its become a expensive lifestyle as vans evolve into mini RVs and priced to match.
Fuel prices and trailer park prices rising will end up killing the lifestyle. Eventually it will just be for the ritch, just like RV'ing.

There’s still the option to renovate or buy used. We have a 99 Cargo Van. Many National Forests and BLM land to explore. Don’t give up!

I'm working on my 2007 chevy express now. Hopefully I have it ready by the end of the summer.
I wanna do a winter close to family. After I know it's good to go then we will head west.
I'm lucky I've been a mechanic and carpenter my whole life. So my only vice is accepting its good enough. I have a habit of trying to make things perfect when good is better. If you know what I mean.

Being a Mechanic is so helpful. You’ll always redo and adjust your original build or layout. We’ve done a complete redo twice. It will never be perfect so just get out there. -:)

@@ThisNomadicIdea yeah I hope we have it at least insulated and the bed platform done by next month.
I figure once I get the bed right camp a few long weekends. That will help us see what we really need and what can wait.
I'm thinking a small generator is better until we can save up for solar. I saw a van in Florida last month the generator ran all night it was so quiet I couldn't believe it. Do you think that's the way to go? I'm worried about heat I know solar doesn't do good with AC.

You mentioned that you made a composting toilet-did you vent it? Does it smell, if not? How often do you change out the compost material? Thank you, from someone trying to commit to vanlife. :)

2 ways you can go. Stationary and Non stationary. For the Van I just use a 5 gallon bucket (Home Depot) and bought a toilet seat (Walmart) and use a bio degradable bag with some sawdust or compost material (Amazon) on the bottom. This is a Non Stationary method. Suprisingly, we don't use it that much. Usually at night when parking in a Home Depot or when we just can't find bathrooms. Stationary is different. It stays in the Van always and you will need to vent it. - Scott
