Wow running her hard; they barely ever get that kind of workout pulling fan trips at a snail's pace. Sounds fantastic! Getting some wheel slip trying to get her up to speed with a load. Great to hear, thx!
Fricken amazing one of the best video’s of 90 ever always wanted this view riding along, the sounds and view is spectacular as always Christopher you never cease to impress! Love the work you do!
Really cool video. I come from a railroad family. Both great grandfathers my grandfather uncles and one cousin all worked for the southern railroad in Va. My granddad was a fireman on the steam locomotives and worked his way up to engineer.
Are modern freight cars way heavier than in, like, 1930? I saw an old pic of 475 dragging 30 cars up Christiansburg hill, but struggles with 8 in Strasburg
Yes, they are heavier. One modern loaded freight car is equal to roughly three cars of 1920's vintage. Strasburg doesn't like to push 100 year old locomotives to their limits.
The Stack Talk Is Just Awesome.
What is stack talk anyway, I’m actually curious
@@dieselteen0770 the stack talk is when the steam locomotive talks to you, the smoke exiting the funnel makes a loud sound
@@dieselteen0770 also it usually occurs when the steam locomotive is working hard pulling a heavy train up a steep grade
That is neat,
I have a copy of the record "Highball" that featured #90 back when she still hauled sugar beets on the Great Western. She still sounds fantastic!
Hearing that old girl bark up a storm and that beautiful reading 6 chime just makes me want to go to Strasburg and take a ride behind her.
Now *that* is Rocky Mountain muscle right there!

Great video! Love to hear a steamer workin hard! (Also shoutout to the poor Amish horse at 12:23 )
Must be pulling some kind of a grade to wheel slip and build so much boiler pressure at the same time. Wonderful stack talk.
Nice video!

Guess The Rails Are A Bit Slippery

I GREW UP IN LANCASTER NEAR STRASBURG
Fantastic video. On this run, was the steamer pulling a freight train or passenger train?
Still got juice after almost a century!

Lot of wheel slip.
It's needs a bath and a polish
Nah. I prefer her being covefed in cinders. She looks like a proper steam locomotive now
