Incredible! Voivod continues to evolve into the unimaginable. Piggy’s reincarnation Daniel Mongrain literally channels his undead spirit and takes his musical vision to another universe. Part jazz, part sci fi experimental metal...all Voivod
Yes, Mongrain is the man. Voivod have replaced one rare talent with another equally rare talent. Musicians who always have aligned faculties.
Mongrain is the best fit for Voivod. It's very rare that a guitarist fills such big shoes, he does it effortlessly.
Deviant So did I. Piggy was such an integral part of their sound, and he was so unique, that I didn't think they would get anyone comparable to him. Voivod are renewed now. Post Society EP was great. High hopes for the new one.
Other than the fact that Loomis is just wasting time in Arch Enemy, I dont really get the comparison.

I was just going to post a similar comment. Piggy was one of metals most original and underrated guitarists. I was very skeptical of Dan at first, when I heard a new album with him was coming out. Man was I wrong! Brilliantly filling in Piggys shoes and that is no easy job!

One of the great groundbreaking bands that doesn't get the accolades they deserve. The stuff they were doing in the late '80's seemed so out there at the time, but man it was just way ahead. And it's still ahead of it's time. They were so heavy without being so fast and screamy- those dissonent chords sounded so good in the context of their overall sound, nobody could pull that off like they did. I wish Piggy was still around, but Chewy is definitely doing his part to carry this band forward. Great teaser for the upcoming album, I can't wait.

i think TARGET EARTH is their best LP ever (!!).... and arguably in the top TEN best metal albums ever made. (And i was a big fan of VV back in the DH NF era.) I can't believe it, but I think Chewy SURPASSES Piggy in every way. (WTF!)
I felt the Post-Society EP was less inspired.
Tragically, TE has THE worst LP cover of all time... just like the above video is easily one of the worst videos EVER made. (It's impossible to make a video this bad. Even a photo of the LP art work is far better.)
when I first heard this guy on guitar in VoiVod, tears flooded my eyes because I didn't think I would ever hear Piggy again, but he lives on with Chewy as he is amazing at finding every note of madness Piggy used.
They shouldn't get the accolades they deserve, leave that to Metallica and other shit and let us real metal fans enjoy real metal.

Snake has a such a unique distinctive voice. Definitely an acquired taste, but one that fits the band's music perfectly.

Voivod fans understand and appreciate what he does for this band. These last few albums show how insanely talented Mongrain is at crafting a Voivod sound in to more complex arrangements. They are in top form

Mongrain really knows how Voïvod should sound, and I love how he adds his own soloing style. Piggy style rhythm with Chewy style solos.
This is why this band never get's ''thrown in the bin''. Like other bands have. Away said for this LP, that Mongrain a.k.a ''Chewy'' wrote must of the songs on the soon to be released LP. This is not a surprise. When Snake & Blacky left the band after the Angel Rat LP. They let Forester'' a.k.a ''the force'' write a lot of the songs for the 3 LP'S that they made w/ him on vocals. Then, Newsted wrote a lot of songs for them for the LP Katorz. My point is. They evolved w/ the times as the music landscape changed. But, still sounding unique w/out selling out their sound. By, letting new members have a say in the songwriting. You might not like all of Voivod discography. But, 1 things is for sure! They are never stale sounding! They also have a fresh sound w/ each LP! Every LP is differently expressed then the last 1. As an artist. This should be your ultimate goal. Which in my opinion, think no other band in metal has accomplished besides them.
Its so refreshing to see bands like Voivod in this day and age producing this quality of music. What an amazing track, pure Voivod, pure quality by the grand masters. No one can copy this style, its so original, once the first note sounds you know its Voivod, if this track doesnt get your blood pumping you gotta be dead! The solo is fucking spectacular, the guitar and bass work and that thundering drum behind, its orgasmic!

I don't get it man. It's 100% a Dan Mongrain solo, like a throwback to Martyr, but it's also 100% Voivod. He was meant to be in this band.
I don't know Martyr yet, though I now intend to. Chewy melts my face Évry time on this track, even w/o the solo. Hell yeah! 🤘🏽🤘🏽
I feel great joy because the Voivod after the death of the guitarist not only did not crumble, but continued to delight us triumphantly with its inimitable sound, endless experiments and stunning charisma! Come on, guys!!! In Russia you are remembered and loved since 1984!!!

Thompson those punk influences are pretty obvious, but they were Thrash only during 80's...... since "Nothingface" they've become classic Prog Metal....... they have such unique style, that nobody sounds like them...... well, maybe only Vektor, but only because they basically copied them...... Voivod are like King Crimson of metal, one of a kind...... I don't mind they don't sound thrashy anymore....... with their songwriting and musicianship, they are still on top of their game

they are a thrashy Prog-Metal band like Tourniquet (who also have a unique sound)

I love it when I see and hear a Gibson bass being played. They're SO underrated and overlooked. I think they're amazing. The vocals do sound quite a lot like Brent's from Mastodon

I first heard VoiVod when War and Pain came out, I was about 6 years old, I knew instantly that this was a unique Metal band and have been a devoted Fan ever since. Unfortunately I was set to open for them a few years ago but the tour had trouble at the border and was canceled. I have only seen Voivod once with Eric Forest on bass and vocals and they were awesome! I would love to go see this lineup some day!
It's so refreshing too hear a metal bands not sell out to the times! Voivod has always experimented w/ different sounds. Everyone of Voivod LP'S in they're discography is different from the other 1's! Some fans like, some do not. But, 1 thing is for sure! They always were & are original! This is why it's important for bands early in a musical career to experiment early. Even if the some fans do like it. [Angel rat] comes too mind. As a LP that a lot of fans did not like! Including me at the time. But, when I hear it again. It helped me appreciate how diverse they can sound from each LP. & how great that LP is & what it did for the band in the future. It helped them not get ''thrown in the bin'' like the song replies w/other bands. Even through they are not musically talking about this subject in this song.

I loved Voivod in the 80's. They were so innovative back in the day. Nobody sounded like them. They were awesome. I have always liked Voivod, I'm glad they're back and strong as ever.

well, I have to argue that Chewy is not Piggy and Harry is not Blacky, Eric Forest and Jason Newsted weren't original members either, so many people can voivod, but legally you're correct!
The way the last riff softens at the end with the vocals is great.

The self-titled album of 2003 is also good. It's more raw and rock, but they're a lot of good songs on it - The Multiverse and Divine Sun are my favorite, Piggy shine of these two.
