iPhone Field Test Mode Guide

  • If you are confused over the different menu choices in Field Test Mode on your iPhone this video serves as a guide to help you match models, chipsets and which menu you will see when dialing 3001#12345# for Field Test Mode. The signal strength indicator can be found on all iPhones with Verizon, Sprint, AT&T or T-Mobile if you know what to look for in the menu. I also show Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor and No Signal ranges for both types of chipsets.
    This used to be different with iOS 10.3.1 and earlier. This guide shows you a workaround to see the signal strength indicator on iPhones up to and including the latest iOS version 11.2.
    You can no longer get the decibel number to show up in place of the bars at the top of your phone. This is the only workaround at this time.

    My iphone 7 model is A1660 but it opens up a menu similiar to intel

      I've heard from multiple people that the menus are all over the place depending on model, chipset and carrier. Hopefully one of those menus will work for you with the field test settings.

    You jumped from Model # to the chipset. It hasn't helped me sort out if that's QualCom. Not clear. Also, my menu doesn't look like either one of these. iPhone SE, second gen.

    Your list is a little bit confusing to me bec after i watched this vid i googled my model no.and it says ,
    iPhone 6S
    A1687: This is considered the world phone or global phone as it works on both GSM and CDMA carriers, and it is the most popular model being sold around the world. Like the corresponding iPhone 6S version, the A1687 doesn't have the LTE band 30 (a new LTE band used by AT&T).
    Ps.and i heard that the qualcomm model is working on both GSM&CDMA

  • @CMMikeAdamsPFForensics

    It is quick with no extra fill. That is good. But when you say anything 'greater' than X is good, that is confusing to the newbies. I know because I teach newbies and they went crazy! Please point out that less than is better, again, for the iPhone, and why. Thank you

    • @SeleTraining
      @SeleTraining  Před 4 lety

      Greater than is better. -90 is greater than -100 and -90 is a better signal. If that is confusing then it's best to explain how values work when dealing with negative numbers.

      @@SeleTraining "Greater is better". That sums it up very well. Thanks!

      Yes, some of the phones have different menus. You also have to wait for it to update on some phones.

    Are there any ways to reset the field test readout other than a reboot for a Verizon 8 plus?

    • @SeleTraining
      @SeleTraining  Před 6 lety

      Most that I have seen require the reboot unfortunately.

  • @poweredbyrhonda

    I’ve tried this multiple times and I upgraded to iOS 11 (regrettably) shortly after it was released. Is there a way to make field test mode permanently on iOS 11?

    • @SeleTraining
      @SeleTraining  Před 6 lety

      Unfortunately the option to replace the bars with the signal indicator number has been removed by Apple. The only option now is to view the number in the menu as shown in the video. Until Apple decides it is a feature to bring back we are stuck.

      If the phone is unlocked it will allow other SIMs. You’ll have to check with the carrier to see if your phone is unlocked.

    I have an i phone se model MP8AZLL/A using AT&T. This does not work as when I dial the number I do not get the screen showing LTE to click on. Is there another step I need to do to get to the option LTE and find my signal strength?

      Some of the newer phones have changed the menus. Make sure you give it a minute for the menu to fill in and also sometimes you need to reboot the phone to get the full menu to show up.

      Sele Training I’ve looked all through the menus and I’ve known about the Field Test mode for years. All mine has is Serving Cell Info where I can see the band the phone is using but not the actual signal strength. I can promise you, it’s not there. But it’s not a real big deal, just something I’d like to be able to see

      That's on the edge of a bad signal. You best option is to get a booster antenna of some type to improve that connection if it is the only tower available.

      I've seen that issue and sometimes you just have to give it a few minutes. Others were not able to get the data to show up even after waiting. Try rebooting your phone and see if they makes a difference too.

      What does your menu show? There is also a RSSI measurement on some models that is similar to the RxAGC0 measurement.

    • @dogmom4914
      @dogmom4914 Před 6 lety

      There is Measured RSSI listed under Serving Cell Measuresments, but no numbers on anything. Except for Sim Info I have no numbers at all. Could living in a marginal area impact this? Using iOS 10.3.3 om an iPhone 7plus and 6s always gave us field test.

    • @SeleTraining
      @SeleTraining  Před 6 lety

      Try rebooting your phone and then go into Field Test Mode and see if those numbers show up. I've seen several phones that only show the numbers right after a reboot. I've also seen some phones that take a minute before the numbers appear so give it some time too. Make sure you are in cell range when you try it.

    • @dogmom4914
      @dogmom4914 Před 6 lety

      I did reboot and got the numbers in Measured RSSI. The numbers are inaccurate. I had 30.5 with 2 bars. I was as low as 3..00. I also kept loosing the numbers.

    • @SeleTraining
      @SeleTraining  Před 6 lety

      The scale for RSSI is different but the higher the number (lower negative number) the better the signal. It is still valuable as a signal strength indicator. The scale varies by manufacturer so you'll have to watch it for a pattern. It often takes 30 seconds to settle on the correct setting too.
