  • Dinant, Belgium is simply spectacular. From the time we entered the city in our van we were captivated by so many fascinating and intricate details of this historic city nestled in a valley hugging the Meuse River. This was an immersive experience through history, beauty, tragedy and inspiration. I am confident that this place will be added to your bucket list if you join us for a single day of our van life journey in the charming little village of Dinant.
    Cheers

The ‘fruit’ in the window is marzipan. Mom was 15 in Brussels when Hitler took over. Mom turned 98 on December 7. (Pearl Harbour day). I wanted to send her your video as I think it would make her feel like ‘home’, and she would enjoy the church, but not sure the part with the weapons would help a good idea. She witnessed German soldiers using their bayonets to kill a baby….
You will be experiencing quite a lot of the horrors of war throughout your trip. We have no idea what it is like to be in fear 24/7….
You will also experience some amazing beauty and history beyond war!
Thank you for sharing. (Daughter of a WWII vet and war bride Mom)

Once Europe gets under your skin and flows in your blood you will never forget her. One day, years later, you will watch a video of someone else exploring places, countries that made your heart swell, and it will again. Man I LOVE Europe.

I was stationed about 25km from Dinant in the 80s and it is my favorite. I was in the Air Force and would drive a tractor trailer through Belgium to Germany. People would stop and clap because they were so grateful for the US liberating Belgium in WWII. I got to share this amazing place with my kids in 2019. Enjoying your videos. Have a great time!

My family was from Mannheim Germany and I visited them when I was a teen for 2 months and loved every minute of it. You should visit the Black Forest and Heidelberg where there is a big castle and a quaint town. The candy shaped like fruits, vegetables in the window is Marzipan. In NYC you can go to Yorkville in the upper east side where all the German shops are. Unfortunately, not as many as when I was a child taking the subway with my mom to spend the day around there. I'm loving seeing castles, cobblestone streets and the stunning country vista's. See ya in the next one!

Loved the song you played as you entered the church. Beautiful little city. The birthplace of so much history, including the sax. Wow the citadel was amazing. Such a great museum. I think the fruit you saw in that bakery was marzipan. That gingerbread looked yummy too! Great video as always! Thank you Snow and Curt! 😊❤

The gingerbread are probably "couques de Dinant". These are so hard that they are inedible for many people. Even dipping in coffee doesn't soften them.

Very beautiful and emotional video. You are walking where so many before you did and you wonder what the world was like there 1100, 500, 100 years ago. Thank you for letting us come along and share your experiences. No doubt you will experience many more places where people were horrendous to each other. I have been to a few places that weigh on me to this day. But with what is going on in the world, we need to be reminded of human inhumanity over the decades and centuries.
The fruit is marzipan for sure, you will see it featured all over continental Europe. Brought some home to my mom every time I travelled to Europe. Cheers.

Since you have been in Europe, I have been looking at photo's on line that show a 'then and now' view of areas that were involved in both world wars. Somehow, they are able to match locations and it never fails to make me cry. So much violence followed by rebuilding. I look at those faces, long gone and yet, the buildings remain. It's painfully beautiful.

Bonjour Snow and Curt 🌞 Its amazing to compare this museum in the"old world", to the museums that you both have visited (and I've virtually tagged along with) over these past four years. So incredible to be able to see and walk through some of these ancient and gorgeous buildings. Sadly, it also highlights the evil's that humans are capable of.
Hopefully, G settles into this new continent and season soon. He probably doesn't care for all the rain and chill.
Thanks again for taking us along and showing us the sights. Safe travels, 🤗🇨🇦

This is one of the most intriguing and meaningful episodes for me. My grandson plays the saxophone just like his dad did. His dad passed away unexpectedly when he was 14 years old. The history of Adolphe Sax having a troubled life hit so very close to home. I sent the story to him. The rest of the episode was thought provoking for me, with the history of the town, the many battles, the rulers, the continual rebirth of the area, and the Citadel. Thank you so, so much.

Couple things: at minute 17:50, those fruits are made with *Marzipan*, and they are traditional at Christmas. Almond paste is an ivory colour naturally, so the less food colouring, the nicer the taste.
Second thing: at minute 18:30, when you were backing out - note the pavement signage "CAR". That means *BUS* in all Francophone countries (comes from "Autocar"). So heads-up for future parking/stopping.
Last thing: You missed the caves!!! They are called "La Merveilleuse" (the Marvellous) and are three stories of stalactites and pools and - well - marvels!
    Having fun watching your travels

You just told me something I never knew. I am virtually right there with you enjoying that walk, thinking about John Coltrane, and so many other great jazz musicians. Talk about tenacity, every time there is damage it was rebuilt. The museum at the citadel was sobering, but was also fascinating. Again the history, and how the town has survived through all of the years.

The architecture is so different from where you’ve come from. I history of Belgium is rich and I had no idea about the war implications, although I should have been. 😮 It’s such a wonderful journey ❤❤

The kitchen and bakery were incredible! The rest was tragic and so very sad. A museum dedicated to death and destruction.😢

Wow what a great stop. The Citadel and also all of the things that were from World War II brought back a dark time in Europe and you showed it to us so well. I was an end of the war baby born in 1944 a year before the war ended. So I've always enjoyed history from that era history from that era. What a great video you did. You started my Saturday off very well as you always do on each Saturday. Gee is going to have many experiences as you take him on his walk each day. CZcams are so professional with all of the videos that you do as you travel.

I don't even have words for this incredible destination. Europe has such an old old historic vibe. You know lots of life lived, wars, restoration of that absolutely beautiful cathedral. I love Neo Gothic architecture. That stained glass window was sooo beautiful and significant to the history of that town. They could not be kept down. Destruction after destruction of that cathedral was restored. The citadell was amazing too. I think the fruits you saw in the window were Marzipan, ie: sweet almond paste. Tasty but very rich treats. The breads looked amazing as well. You can just feel the history. Thank you so much Snow and Curt. Hoping GMoney gets comfortable pretty soon. Europe is an entirely different land and with ancats sense of smell being so keen, GMoney is making sure it's cool before he just chills. Steep learning curve. Smart kitty cat. Cheers and see you next time.Enjoy yourselves. ❤

The music is beautiful. ❤ My father-in-law served in Europe in World War 2. He met a Belgian man who served in the military and who's family owned a dairy back then in Antwerp and they became lifelong friends. My husband took a trip back there as a young duelly in the Air Force Academy. He had 24 hours of downtime and took the train to outside of Antwerp and then walked the 2 miles in the rain to meet this man. Long story short..he met him and showed him photos of the family and visited with him. He fed my husband breakfast, let him take a shower while his clothes dried from the rain. He took him to the train station in the town near Antwerp and they said their goodbyes. The gentleman was so kind my husband said and overcome with emotion to meet his lifelong friend's oldest son. His family still owns that dairy to this day.

Sent your video to my Mom (98). Her Mom lived in Namur, very close! She said they always went to Didant and the waffles are so good! She told how King Albert always rode his motorcycle and had an accident there and was killed. Then his son became King. Just a bit more history for you!

I thoroughly enjoy your videos, adventure, joy and wonder at seeing different parts of the world, and it makes me miss travelling SOOO much. Although, being divorced I don't currently have a partner to travel with (I don't enjoy travelling alone) so hopefully someday again! Peace & hugs from the west coast of Canada!💙

Amazing. Powerful. Sad. And sad to think that we have learned nothing over all the history and all the wars of this world... The Gaza Strip, Ukraine, and many other violences going on today that are every bit as violent in their own ways. Its sobering. Thank you for sharing. As always, I LOVE your videos.

My stepfather who raised me, was in WWII stationed in Belgium. I remember his stories about him sneaking potato peels to the local children who were starving to death during the war. His stories will always be with me. I love the rows of buildings along the river. Enjoy this historic town! Wish I was there with you guys.❤

Wow! From beginning to end! I'd love to know the story behind that one lane road between the mountain and why they chose to construct it the way they did. The cathedral was magnificent, The citadel was amazing and I never knew the history of the saxophone! To cool!! I remember hearing in the nightly news often times about Charles de Gaulle. He really had his sights set on taking over Monaco when Prince Renee and Princess Grace were on the throne. I really enjoyed this. I learned a lot from this! Things I never would have known if not for the two of you!!❤🥂
