How to take Xbox 360 apart: adf.ly/CYxok - Jak na to + styl
Warning: Please do not attempt if you cannot spell “soldering”. ;-)
I can!!!
This was super helpful. Thought the new disc drive i ordered wasn't going to work because i didnt know id have to pull the old motherboard and solder it in. Thanks man, saved me a pretty big expense c:
Thanks for the video. One thing that might help someone worrying about soldering that board. Not sure why I bypassed that step but I had an old xbox 360 (very old as in no HDMI port old) and the DVD drive did not match the model number of the newer xbox (whos drive was broken) it was going into (the one it was going into was new enough to have an HDMI port). Nothing to lose so I gave it a try and pulled the old drive out and simply swapped it out following most of your steps there, but again, didn't have to do any of the real dirty work like soldering anything or even worrying about the logic board. I didn't even have to open the 4 screws into the DVD player to access the logic board) and It works great. That said, if anyone has an old xbox (perhaps with the ring of death) it might be possible, as in my case, to reuse the parts very easily. Bypass the logic board stuff entirely and just pull the two connectors to the drive. jeremybr2020 Did you try simply plugging in the drive? Meaning, don't get into all that logic board stuff.
Because this is your 2nd or 3rd video, I think you did a good job. thanks for info
Thank you so much, i was confused about this and was looking at flashing videos but this is way easier and faster thanks!!!
Oh aalll the guides that I found and found watched. This by far was honestly the best. Thanks
Dude, I really appreciate all your effort but your shaking the video so much that it's frustrating. also the focus is terrible. but thanks for trying.
Lol
+Brad Lehman I've never seen camera work that gave me a headache, ever, until today.
My father and I worked on it and your tutorial works! But when we were re-saudering the wires, we didn't pay attention to the way the yellow and white wires were connected. We kinda just said fuck it, and connected them however... I guess we guessed correctly because the new drive worked hahaha. We are some lucky mo-fo's!
Thanks for the great vid!
it’s been 8 years is it still working?
@@jesusgalvan915 sold the same Xbox quite a few years ago but it never screwed up again so yeah I guess so lmao
All I did was by a new disk drive and put a new one in!! I bought the new one off amazon. It still works 😆
Great video!just made my old xbox working just fine.
if i get a new drive with the same hard ware version and firm ware version, it would not require to flash the drive correct? just swap the boards right?
cheers this helped alot, though I might make a suggestion. My trays were slightly different so i needed to remove 4 white and 7 total which would be a pain to switch the boards, but instead i switched the laser reader and servos(the metal parts) and it only required removing 3 wires and nothing else.
So I had my old xbox drive stop working , ordered a new one buy I think I throw away the original DVD drive it was a a while ago got a new xbox after it didn't work but kept it for fixing in the future. Is it still fixable without the original DVD drive
Yo so if I have a phillip disc drive and I order another phillip disc drive will I get the same motherborad???
do i have to replace it with the same dvd drive i got a liton and its broken i also got a samsung that works but is it ok if i replace the liton with the samsung
Great video Thanks. I'll let you know next week how it goes when I get my drive from amazon
This video was really very very helpful as i viewed 1000'nd s of videos and cant really find the solution. But when i tryed what he said about the chip or motherboard it finally read my game disk.... thankyou very much
Where do you get a soldering iron that is good for this job? Could you link me one?
Hey I have an xbox disc drive like in the video and I ordered a disc drive from amazon but I didn't see the number so what can I do if I get the long motherborad ???
I literally pulled my faulty one out, and threw in another from a broken 360 i had, works fine, didn't have to solder or switch out motherboards
but did you get banned?
I'm really confused... can I just repair the drive by replacing it or do I have to solder... if I have to solder I might as well solder a sata cable to my drive to fix it... when I get the solder iron
hey im wondering cause my old lodgich board is curroded is there any other way to put anthoer lodgich board on thats diffrent
Could I have 2 different drives and take the motherboard out of the one thats messed up and put it in the other drive that works, will it work?
ive got a new disc drive because my old one messed up. so if I replace the logic board it will work? I don't need to 'key' it or something? please help thanks :)
do you need to match the model number or can you just match the brand?
Thanks for the video. I did this successfully. I didnt have to solder either. The green white and yellow wire simply unplugged then i spliced the reds and blacks with the new motor.
Would cutting the wires, stripping them, an twisting them back together, and covering the twisted part with electric tape, be able to get around the need to solder?
Yes
fix worked great the first time, thanks. used a cheap 10 dollar soldering iron and 60/40 leaded solder. total was 20 dollars. Still much better then 120 from game stop.
This is a great tutorial, thanks!
For the board switch to work they both need to be the same type? Or does it matter?
I have a BenQ dvd drive and the logic board seems unsodrable? have u done ths wth a benQ?
Question: I have 2 Xbox consoles, one has a bad audio/video port and the other has a bad disc drive. Will it work if I just switch the disc drives from one to another or is that a bad idea? And will it work?
hey the video was very helpful, unfortunately i don's have a soldering kit, what if i just cut the wires with scissors on the old one and again on the new one and just connected them by twisting them?? that way i dont need to solder anything? idk you you need the same wires or not please respond anyone??
How do you get the front plastic plate off ? I need to swap it out so it matches....
Does it matter if I were to take out a disk drive from a first gen white Xbox and put it in an elite? (Not a slim)
The replacement drive I picked up has a rectangular logic board that spans the entire rear of the drive, the existing one is a corner board, like in the video.
the drive you have is a Ben-q the one in the viedo is lite on they are both made by philips but are diffrent modles
Very helpful thank you
hi, my drive dosen't work so im getting my mates old xbox for parts for the drive, the drive works but will it work in my xbox ?
Thank u so much this helped a lot
I found the drive I need but it says the drive must be flashed. do you still have to flash the drive if you use the board out of your old drive?
Kinda shaky and out of focus video but it works.Did mine exactly like the video and tooked only 30 mins to switch board and saved me a bundle. For you guys who don't solder...you're SOL.Beats all that complicated flashing jive and extra tools to buy. You could have explained a little better about marking/labelling to 2 whites and 2 yellow cables to make sure they go back to the exact spot.Need to replace with same model drive.Took care of misread and eject trouble on the drive. Good job guy.
Thanks man, really helpful!
is there anywhere where I can buy the drive without alogic board for cheaper?
I have a question. Why do you need to solder? As long as the wires touch the metal it will work correct? So cant you use some type of conductive adhesive?
got me thinking the same thing..I need a answer!
conductive glue is a real thing
just curious, if the drive I am currently replacing is a Phillips &
BenQ VAD6038 model. If I ordered that exact model again would I still
need to take the new board off that comes inside the new drive and
sauter back to the old or could I just easily put the exact same model
drive that I ordered that's the same drive into it and put everything
back together and everything be good? I would think the drives (drivers)
would or should be the same since its the same except model you would
think?...
hi got a question / why do you need to change the mother boards when they are the same. why carn/t you just change dvd drives and that's it / also does the new drive have a built in lazer. cheers.
The systems have a DVD key that is paired to the mobo.
does an unflashed drive still play original retail games?
Thank you for the Information On this Becuz its doing the same thing for me
Hi darkgames.. I am replacing the drive for my kids because their xbox 360 said the same thing. Ur video was helpful but the only thing I can't do is get the yellow, white, black wires off. Or what u called soddering (spellcheck) lol. How do u do that and what tool do I use? Thank u
If I happen to buy a Xbox One disc drive, and just like he did, switch the motherboard from the old disc drive to the new one. Would it work?
Okay what if i dont have my old logic board? is there any way i can do it?
So your taking the old logic board from the old drive and putting it in the new dive?
what is that ribbon called located at 2:57
Can I cut the wires and reatatch them cause I dont have a sodering iron
you help me a lot thanks
Jokes on you, my 360 is so old it already voided warranty HA!
can you hold the camera still and focus?
when I replaced the pcd the drive will not open, the dashboard loads fine, I get message on screen opening tray and the lights continue to flash green, could that be a soldering issue,
What would cause the unrecognizable disc error, or code 03-57-00?
What do I do if I lost the original logic board? Is there a way to salvage the Xbox still?
If u dont change the logic board it will play cds and dvds but will go back to the home screen if u try to play a game changing the logic board fixes it so it will load the games properly so if ur unsure about if u need to change it just install the dvd drive and try it at worst itll just go back to home screen and thanks for vid i wasnt sure why it wasnt working at first then i watched this and 20 mins later my xbox is working fully again :)
Thanks for the guide, really helpful.
hi can i ask for the link
from amazon?
@@omarjrh9191 www.amazon.com/Replacement-Lite-DG-16D2S-09C-Drive-360/dp/B07M9QPVHS
This is the link, make sure to look at the model number at the top of the disk drive which is on the sticker.
3:40 i tried unlocking the tabs on the side but they broke off and the little black part came off. am i screwed?
+wokzilla yes you are fucked now, you need that to keep the ribbon in place and connected to the current of the circuit board
So, I'm assuming that the reason why the mobo for the drive is being switched is so that you don't have to reflash the firmware? Seems like it would be easier to reflash...
It can be more expensive to reflash because you sometimes need the x360 USB pro and ck3 probe AND ck3 pro, which those things are had to get now.
@@ultratechgaming199 I flashed one of mine with a light switch speaker wire and a nail. Worked perfect for me. Lol
Do you think that I could put a DVD Rom drive for a XBOX 360 into an original XBOX?
Do i need to swap the logicboard if my xbox is jtagged?
Wouldn't it be easier to buy the same type of drive and take the black cable and the white cable out of the old drive and hook the new one up?
do you connect the wires back
If I don't have the old board why couldn't I just do a system update (with USB or wait for next one) because that flashes the new firmware to the optical drive, wouldn't that fix the problem of switching boards?
But really I do have the other board but would like to know for future reference if I don't get an answer I will try myself and let you guys know
It does not work when you just update
is there any other way besides replacing the logic board
I did this I swapped up the board from the old one into the new DVD Drive I did not have to solder nothing my Dr just had four sets of ribbon cables instead of 3 however it did not work the screen still goes black then goes back Dashboard
Just curious, if the drive I am currently replacing is a Phillips & BenQ VAD6038 model. If I ordered that exact model again would I still need to take the new board off that comes inside the new drive and sauter back to the old or could I just easily put the exact same model drive that I ordered that's the same drive into it and put everything back together and everything be good? I would think the drives (drivers) would or should be the same since its the same except model you would think?...
best solder to use?
so even if you buy the drive and its the same model numb it wont work corect
u still have to take the logic board out
what would happen if i just took my disk tray out and connected the cords to the new disk tray?
when i try to play a game on my 360, the whole screen shuts off and i have 1 blinking red light on my xbox. do you know what that means?
I wish they sold replacements without the logic board, the extra part takes most of the cost which goes to waste
I have an xbox 360 elite and my problem is that it reads the cd's games like dvd's or cd's music ... please help me
excellent video, i was getting so pissed ty
just sauter that logic board ONCE, run extra lead wire off of it, and strip the ends, then if you have to EVER do it again, you can just strip, twist and insulate. ;)
I was going to try and replace my DVD drive with another from a different xbox 360 that was no longer functioning. I actually had 2 to choose from. Unfortunately apparently some DVD drives are very different from others. My bad one looks like the one in this video. The other DVD drives look totally different with a much larger logic board and different color wires and hook ups. {sigh}.........shit. Is there no way to fix the broken DVD drive itself?
+jeremybr2020 did you try and just plug it in without doing the logic board stuff? I yanked a difffernt drive out of an older xbox 360 and it worked fine in a newer xbox 360 but I didn't do any of that logic board stuff. I simply pulled the two connections to the drive out of the old xbox 360 and placed it in the newer one and was surprised, but it worked with no messing with that logic board stuff mentioned here.
I did try that initially. However, it did not work. It was at that time when I researched and found out that the DVD drives our programmed to that specific model logic board. It sounds as though you may have simply lucked out and they were the same model logic boards. I wasn't so lucky, lol
I bought a drive and followed the steps but mines just says play game and then when i push play game it just after a sec it pops up disc unreadable So im thinking the new dive is faulty.
My brothers dvd rom is ok...but mine had broke due to water spilled on it!...can I just use his dvd rom? (xbox360*slim)
If your laser diode dies and your cd's can no longer be read, you don't need to new CD drive, just a new laser diode, it's cheaper (£10/$10) and requires just a few little screws and sliders removed. My drive completely messed up and couldn't shut even though three magnet was fine so got a new drive. Sucks it needs soldering, my soldering kits junk, guess I'll have to flash it.
I accidently put it in already without knowing that I had to do this. Can I still do this?
For me my xbox disc drive as a part loose in the drive and its preventing the disk tray to open and i cant get it open because the damn screws are so hard to open!
I poured in the lighter fluid in my xbox and all this video helped me do is burn down my house. Kidding kinda wish it was in focus more. Maybe add some light to your filming environment for future videos.
Buy a tripod!
dude i know this sounds stupid but could i just use the xbox360 hd dvd player and take the drive out of that or?
myn pbc is damage .can you help me
can I just replace the laser to fix the open tray issue??m
If you know that is the problem then yeah then again who knows how to fix the open tray error..thats why i found myself here lol, I gave up.
Men I replace my old disc drive from my old xbox360 put on a new one and does not work it said put game disc on a xbox360????? need help
you need to extract the key because the disc tray firmware needs to be compatible with the motherboard
How do you find out what dvd drive you have
I am completely out of ideas! I have tried everything! I even bought a whole new disc drive for the right console and i did everything as i should have even the board! but for some reason my xbox still just makes a halting noise then says open tray!!!!!!!
Can I just plug an external disk drive into my box. I've had the open tray error for about two months and I'm on the verge of spending money I don't have.
what happends if someone insatlls one whitout changing boards
fuck, I got seasick watching this video!
Question: if you remove the disk drive, will the xbox still work?
Dont I know if already tried but for me it did still work on a xbox 360 model e
@@ind2100 cool, thanks for letting me know and have a great day
I have been realizing this ever since my Toshiba samsung wires were messed up, now my DVD drive is just fine however the wires are not and i promise you finding wires for these things Especially the Toshiba Samsung one is close to impossible i have been looking for weeks.... They do have replacement DVD drives for toshiba however they never specify weather the wires come with the unit or not, and the pictures are always of the DVD drive without the wires included. Anyone know where to get em?
Hey dude, is there any other way of doing this as the motherboard on my new one is different than the one thats fucked :S thanks
isnt it cheaper to replace the whole unit than just replacing the logic board?
You aren’t replacing the logic board. You’re taking the old logic board and putting in the new disc drive to spoof the XBox motherboard into thinking it’s the original drive.
if my xbox disk spins one time then instantly stop, does that mean its my disk drive?
