    I've had a monthly customer down the street from me, she would co-ordinate the work to be done and her dad would pay. I do the yard pretty quick, myself and helper would be loading up the truck and lady would come out n ask if we could move a couple things real quick for whatever reason. We'd agree and do it then when almost done with that task, she'd point out a couple more things, then again, then again. I had to put my foot down and straight tell her NO. No more stuff. The time we spent extra unpaid was approaching 30 minutes, I got other yards to do, she wasn't paying for extra work and was starting to point out more and more.
    Fellas, at some point ya gotta say no to doing free labor and start charging, or leave. Know your worth, don't be rude, but dont be free

      Perfectly said Ken!! That's a whole video topic in itself. It can be tricky maneuvering through those customers who want this, then want that after the mow... and then they don't even think about paying you and forget* about the extra time & labor you just spent with them because "oh it will just be really quick" 😂

      @@Cloud-ls5id 93 degrees? Bud its been a solid 105 and up over here in Bakersfield California lol but yeah, after that lady and then another new customer did that, I figured as part of my advertising on Facebook and cards and word of mouth, I only mow lawns. You just need to price it right and maybe have some helpers. I make more in one day of mulching/pruning than I do in two days of lawn mowing. And save fuel at the same time. The prep work is the hard part about mulching but it’s also another way to make more money.

      You stay cool out there as well man. I gotta make a video on my method to beat the heat- I literally don't get affected by it at all lol even now in the Summer. I love being in the sun all throughout the year.. I truly feel like the sun will beat you up only if you're not taking care of yourself (not eating right, not sleeping right, not exercising, etc.) When you do all of those things right & slowly get your skin used to the sun... the sun becomes energy & nectar đŸ€‘ Haven't touched sunscreen in years lol (unpopular opinion.) I feel like those sprays give more cancer than the actual sun đŸ€ź what did our ancestors do... lol. For our white skinned folks it might be a different story lol.. just gotta work with what god gave us 😁 are you in Texas too?

Or are you in an area where you can go two weeks without cutting? In southern Indiana, after a week it starts looking rough.

    Have you read the book, “Profit First”? Good call on keeping it simple. Scale your business. Sometimes chasing for more isn’t necessarily the best thing. 80% of your business will come from repeat customers. You get to focus on quality of service and will justify the prices you charge them. Loyalty is far more important than price. You can’t really quantify loyalty. Think about a doctor who specializes. They are worth more than just a generalist.

    • @Makemoneymowing
      @Makemoneymowing  Pƙed 4 lety +2

      My parents actually own a tree service and do landscaping as well so they taught me a lot! They wanted me to take over their business, but I did not want to be handed an established business- I wanted to create something myself (going to make a future video on this 😁) If I didn’t have them- I would just CZcams as you said and practice on my own house. Even though they taught me how to do sod and I watched them on their jobs, I still had to rip out my own grass in a clean square and then replant sod in the patterns to learn myself, water it, and check the results, trim my own trees repeatedly etc. before I could ever offer those services myself. It’s like I watched CZcams but in real life lol, still had to learn it myself first hand. But think about all these other companies out there, they had to learn on their own by just doing small jobs and working their way up. I ultimately chose lawn care and had to teach myself the ins and outs of it- something my parents had 0 experience with. I had to teach myself what equipment is best, how to quote weekly/biweekly customers, how to mow, trim, and edge properly, how to schedule my routes, etc. but I found a way. As with anything in life- you can watch videos all day/watch someone else do it.. but doing it firsthand will always be the best teacher 😎

    I feel you bro, but you always gotta have a growth mindset begin growing into landscape company and making thousands a day instead of hundreds. But if you don't enjoy it don't do it! Good vid btw

      Thanks Eric! Trust me man, my growth mindset is working too strong 24/7 lol. It seriously interferes with my sleep because I’m always working & thinking. This lawn care business is not my only project and not the only place my energy goes into... 😁 this mowing business is actually secondary. If I had nothing else going on, I would without a doubt scale up and chase more money/bigger jobs. But since I have bigger fish to fry- I choose the simplicity of my mowing business because it makes amazing money whenever I want + while still allowing me to put my main focus into the other projects (which will pay off much more down the line rather than any potential landscaping work I could be doing rn 😎) But- that’s just how I view things. You definitely have a good point though and I 100% agree on the growth mindset. What city you in bro?

    Is it okay to decline doing flower beds and weed control? Or is that seen as standard lawn care? I want to just mow like you too and not have to get on my knees and pull weeds from within gravel and rose bushes but I feel like the old folks who can’t even step outside their own home will drop me.
