Hi everyone! In this video I will be making a fine woodworking serving tray. I had two inspirations for this piece, the first being Seth Rolland’s work (which I love) and Japanese style woodwork and architecture! The tray is made from soft maple (which is harder than it sounds) and the base is MDF veneered with cherry. Instead of kerfing the open ends like Seth Rolland does, I actually laminated them. I finished the tray with Chestnut products lemon oil (Which smell’s fantastic) and I added a water-repellent protective layer over with Microcrystalline wax. I hope you enjoy this video! Feel free to like, comment, share and subscribe!

Wow, stumbled upon your channel, excellent work, thank you, keep it going,
Hi Paul, welcome to the channel! thank you!
Love the design and also the idea of making it a requirement to build something from a single board.
Glad you like it!
Just saw this today, love it. Reflects Japanese dainty, yet strong methods. It flows nicely. You never disappoint! Hope you are safe and well, little brother from another mother... Cheers!
Just came across this video today. A beautiful design. Especially love the curved sides!

That's badass
Thanks man
Elegant 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Mate that looks mint. 👍
Thanks Collin
Nice build
Thanks mate
Sean, your work’s improving. Great job. The sides makes the tray look really “light” and with limited timber, it’s a great design.
Hey Neil, Hope you're well. thank you for watching and your comment. I'm glad you like my design!
Cheers mate
No problem. glad you liked it
Sean... that is once again a thing of beauty 😁. Well done on the hand joinery, whenever I try that it always looks like it's been chewed by an angry dog, so we'll done you. Stay safe and thanks for the video 😁👍
Hi Frank, thank you very much. I'm sure it's not that bad ahah. I just practice a lot. thanks for watching and commenting again!
That is beautiful! Great job
Thanks Brian. means a lot
Awesome work Sean, end result looked amazing, very original idea to, how do you find working in that big workshop with all the tools imaginable then coming back to yours? Reason I’m asking is I’m in the same boat, used to work for a large joinery company now building up my own shop and CZcams channel.
HI Mike, thanks for watching and your comment. thrilled you like my work. Yes it is hard at times, when i can't do something because i don't have that tool. So I just save up all my money to keep buying tools to be able to have a fully operational workshop.
Definitely like your work and enjoy your videos, you have a very similar way to Matt Estlea who I’m sure you’ve heard off, yes it’s an addiction, working hard, saving money and then spending it all on tools lol, it’s nice to look around your workshop though knowing it’s all yours and thinking about all the hard work you’ve put into what you have anyway keep up the good work and keep safe Sean 👍
@@mikeswoodencreations5712 Hi Mike, i total agree. Yes Matt is a mate of mine. we trained at the same woodworking school. where actually doing a talk together at the next Makers Central
Sean Evelegh I had a feeling you knew each other, ah that will be good, I never gone before but definitely planing to go next time so hope to see you there and looking forward to your next video, cheers Sean
I have to say Sean, this is really nice. Great design too. Off topic but will you be doing a review of your table saw?
Hi grant, glad you liked it. If it's the Axminster one your talking about... then yes I will be doing a review
Sean Evelegh yeah sorry the Axminster saw. 👍
Amazing job...my wine bottle stand would have been a lot simpler...cut into two, counter balance weight of bottles, voila...done...lol...👍🏻
Hey Stuart, thank you. the counter balancing feature sounds very interesting. I do like the concept of wood bending out at the ends like Seth Rolland's work
Wood you look at that
Go on, I dare you to write that in every video ahah!
