@@divetisman2835 Truth of matter is there's no photo, no birthdate, no place of birth and is parents were unknown. Many believe he's a fictional character. There's no significance really to him. His name has been more of folklore than factual.

Ah, he wasn't blk if his dad was French and white.
Great news for the Haitian people!Have great day!
This gentleman's story sounds like the typical brilliant, brave and, adventurous activities that someone might get into, GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO SO. Thank you for this reporting.
Great, Great job! As Chicago is my hometown, I'm proud that the ACKNOWLEDGED founder was a black person like me! My mom and many of her friends (some achieved fame and fortune) attended Du Sable High School as well as my cousins! I love the fact the main beautiful drive along the lake-front is now Du Sable Lake Shore Drive! Thanks for some valuable information I can now share with ALL citizens who will listen!!!
Yep he is "acknowledged" as such but that's weird because DuSable didn't "found" anything. He left in 1800. The city of Chicago was founded in 1832 by Kinzie, Hubbard and Clybourn. They signed the corporate papers. Why that bothers ya'll and why you want to pretend that an educated African and French Canadian trader who first sectioned off land like a European founded Chicago when he didn't is bizarre but no skin off a my nose bro. You keep whispering sweet little lies to each other if it helps you sleep at night. I can read. I looked at the papers of incorporation and they're signed as stated above. That is a fact and it aint going to change no matter what some soon to be extinct woke people say for a period of time. Enjoy!
WOW I didn’t know they renamed LSD!!! I’m from Chicago as well, awesome to know this.

I know it's important his skin color and ethnicity. But Dusables dad was white. So how does that make him blk?
Very imteresting story. This is a really black story that is very important to know.
Knowledge is so important it exposed the mind and keeps you grounded in the experience of self worth
Thank you for that knowledge about du sable, Chicago have finally recognized du sable as the founder of Chicago by renaming our outer drive, from Lakeshore drive to du sable lake shore drive last year.i was born and raised in Chicago aka Windy City, so I felt good about that.they never ever taught or mentioned anything in grammar or high school about a black man founded Chicago.that's sad
I just discovered your channel by accident today. Absolutely informative. Thanks for the educational information.
I was born and lived half of my life in Illinois. I’m not surprised why I haven’t heard about him before. I had a history teacher who didn’t understand why some students weren’t interested in American History. Perhaps if they taught this and other black history, other than being slaves, I knew I would have been more into the subject.
That’s a shame because there is a statue a museum and lake shore drive is named after him while recently but it’s always been known
What school did you go to? I grew up in Hyde Park. We couldn't help but know who he was. Spent a lot of Summers in Washington Park, where his museum is.
@@thomasbrown3356 I grew up moving back and forth from the south suburbs, to the north suburbs. The only blacks I learned about in school were Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, and George Washington Carver.
Preach!!!
Enjoyed the rich history of a phenomenal Black man.
My family was fortunate to visit the DuSable Museum in Chicago IL many years ago. It was a very memorable and surreal event. You can feel the ancestors with you in every square inch of the museum.
Thank you. I always made sure my kids did their Chicago report on him when they were in elementary school. I remember a teacher writing that she learned something new on my daughters report. Activists tried to get a statue erected and a street named after him for decades. Finally got the DuSable museum in the 1960’s and a section of Lake Shore Drive named after him a few years ago.
All your work deserves more attention & accolades than there currently seems to be. Thank you for your work!
I love my fellow black Americans/Haitians
Thank you for telling our story. So glad to know he came from Haitian origin. I celebrate him everyday and teach my students Haitian history everyday. ❤
But he didn't come from haiti though, that's been disproved already. He was the son of an Black American slave and a white French slave master.

@@UniqueColoringThis history is absolutely NOT taught in the South!
@@thagrandpubah Because it is not true! This is basically a Pan African aka Black history when in fact Chicago is a American Indian word with no reference of French Creole. They are always robbing people of their history and this is why Florida banned Africans in America history cause it is not American Negros nor American Indian history American history at all. That man was a Freeman Colonizer no better than the European colonizer. They are just glorifying their Colonization over the American Negros aka American Indians in America.

@@chiccngeorge3058 anything before 1850 for sure. And most after
Really? Who signed the papers of incorporation that officially brought Chicago into existence 30 years AFTER DuSable left? Sounds like black revision to me. Explain how it's not please . . . It will stand for a period of time maybe, but the fact is DuSable was gone for 30 years before the city was founded. He was the first to section of land in the Europoean style so in that sense he was the first here but he still didn't found anything but his trading post, then he left in 1800. The Americans came in 1803 after the "treaty of Saint Louis" and built the Fort. Kinzie, Hubbard and CLybourn came a decade ish later and are the signers of the papers of incorporation. THEY founded the city officially in 1832. Period! End of story. It's a matter of record and fact.
@@A_Chicago_Manthey simply extended what Du Sable started and got all the credit.

Bravo 👏 big brother!
I have to say that United States should owe lots of respect to Haitians people for all the things accomplished by their ancestors. There wouldn't be Chicago without Haiti, nor New Orleans or Louisiana. Aside from that,Haiti helped USA getting rid of slavery. Viva Haiti 🇭🇹,Viva la madre de la libertad 🗽 🙌
You know everything you said is false right? All those places would exist without haiti and Haiti didn't help the US get rid of slavery... The US never got rid of slavery ma'am.
@@down-b8197 I know US never got rid of Slavery and that why Dessalines wrote a letter to Thomas Jefferson in order to pay for the black slaves freedom. But what I meant was,USA have been fighting against the England so Haiti🇭🇹 helped them fighting the English colony at that time. Also,to whom belonged LA before? It was for French in case you didnt know. PLEASE, READ THE COMMENT AGAIN🙏
There are many articles from reputable media that claimed that US owed Haiti a lot. They benefited a lot from the events in Haiti. For example, the Louisiana purchase, without Haitian revolution, Napoleon might not have sold it to US. One third of the territory would have been part of France.
If France had not sold Louisiana, America would be today a bilingual nation with French and English languages like Canada. This is the main reason that the French hate the Haitian people so much and want Haiti to remain in poverty and misery.
