Cool fact: America and Great Britain had already signed a peace treaty before the Battle of New Orleans happened, but because the news of it took so long to get there, neither side knew there was already peace. This battle was also one of the major reasons Andrew Jackson became president.

I love the extreme attention to detail. The native Americans and slaves in the American ranks was impressive. The way you showed all the officers being cut down was fairly accurate too. I read that by the end of the battle there was not a single high ranking British officer alive.

Great video! One thing that the American's did at this battle was they were rotating loaded and unloaded firearms from the front of the line to the back. They were reloaded in the back, passed them down to the front of the line to be fired. That way the front line was able to constantly fire upon the British without having to reload.

Half true, Britain had agreed to a peace treaty, but knew they technically could still fight until the US government approved it. Thus, they wanted to get the best result possible before than. The ULTIMATE prize would be to seize New Orleans and then move to cut off the vast Louisiana territory from the US and keep America from expanding much further in the future. Andrew Jackson later said a British victory essentially could have nullified the Louisiana Purchase from Napoleon. This plan of course failed disastrously, and the British were forced to simply withdraw and end their offensives (the Congress approved the peace treaty weeks after the Battle of New Orleans).

    fact:
At the beginning of America's existence, its flag had only 13 stars arranged in a circle. The stars represented the first 13 states. The current flag has 50 stars, and the United States has as many states.

Great video! I am really facinated by the battle of New Orleans. It's a magnificent victory for the US. I mean we had 4,000 and the British 10,000. The losses were unimagined, the British lost about 4,000 and the US only lost 13. This video was so good, it made me want to go back in time to see the battle itself.

@@admiral9621 you know, people who say really gotta know that Canada wasn't part of the war, just Brits & the US. Besides, the Battle of New Orleans was the last battle and it was a decisive American Victory. So cleary, No Canadians were involved, so clearly America Won. I don't need further explainations.

    • @thunderbird1921
      @thunderbird1921 Před 3 lety +2

@@admiral9621 Well, depends on the area of the war. The War of 1812 had multiple theaters, if you will. The Canada campaign was a bust, you're right on that, and we did have some embarrassing defeats other places early on. However, we destroyed Tecumseh's tribal army, took back virtually all lost land, won some significant naval clashes with the British and drove them out for good at New Orleans (plus they stopped kidnapping our sailors). So in some ways America won as well. A draw is a highly accurate description of this war. Canada and the US both had their sovereignty respected in the end, so it worked out well long term.

Canada wasn’t even a country yet, how could Canada win the war fought by the British and Americans, as well as First Nations and militia from what is NOW Canada?

In 1814, we took a little trip
Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip'
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans
We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin'
There wasn't as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico
    We looked down a river
And we see'd the British come
And there must have been a hundred of 'em
    Beatin' on the drums
They stepped so high and they made their bugles ring
We stood beside our cotton bales and didn't say a thing
We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin'
There wasn't as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico
Old Hickory said we could take 'em by surprise
If we didn't fire our muskets
'Til we looked 'em in the eye
    We held our fire
'Til we see'd their faces well
Then we opened up our squirrel guns
    And really gave 'em, well
We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin'
There wasn't as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they begin to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico
Yeah, they ran through the briars
And they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes
    Where a rabbit couldn't go
    They ran so fast
That the hounds couldn't catch 'em
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico
We fired our cannon 'til the barrel melted down
So we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round
We filled his head with cannon balls, and powdered his behind
And when we touched the powder off the gator lost his mind
We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin'
There wasn't as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico
Yeah, they ran through the briars
And they ran through the brambles

WOW this was a great video, can you do a stopmotion of blackbeard's final battle? It's historical and epic, remember, in his final battle he fought in a sloope because his frigate queen Anne's revenge sunk when it hit a sandbar and captain reinard fought In a sloope with no cannons but still one due to having his crew go below deck during the first few volleys and had them wait there until the pirates boarded, Blackbeard would have killed reinard if a British sailor hadn't came behind him and sliced the back of his neck. before there epic duel they each drew 1 out of 6 pistols each and fired, reinards pistol hit Blackbeard but didn't even slow him down, Blackbeard missed but only due to being half drunk. after the duel reinard cut off blackbeard's head and threw his body overboard and took the head home as a trophy. the rest of the crew surrendered soon after
