My goal is to quit one time and never have to look for another one ever.
At the age of 23, I started my own business. I was fresh out of college and got the job I thought I always wanted...then realized I hated the job. I worked my own business from 9am-6pm and my job from 7pm-2am. I got used to my hectic schedule and after working like this for 5 years and being frugal...I was debt free. During that 5 yr period I lived on a tight budget, I bought my clothing second hand, I made my own laundry soap, I did anything and everything to help me reach my goal. I'm now 40 years old, and because of my sacrifices I built my home and paid for it in cash, I bought my escalade and was able to write the check for it right out of my account. You CAN do it! But you have to have discipline and make sacrifices.
Can you help me start a business?
I just quit my job.couldn't take it any more.so im making sure I grind day in day out doing what I love.referring clients to a dealer and getting paid a 200 fee for each one.

Yes well done, I still work a regular job. But Im a chef and love what I do, and its close to my home so I have no travel expense. The words of wisdom I got from my father 32 years ago when I started working have served me well. He said before you do ANYTHING, try to save at least 6 months living money. So that if the rug is pulled from under you. You dont have to go into immediate panic mode. And you have that cushion.
32 years later I have enough money in the bank to live for more than 7 years without a job. And my house is almost payed for. The main problem with especially Americans right now is they dont save enough. A recent survey showed that around 62% of Americans dont even have $1000 in savings to fall back on. Thats truly disturbing. I know someone my age 52. Who doesnt even have $1000 saved. And still rents. And they have no other assets or investments. This is not good at all. Alot of people dont think about the future. They live above their means paycheck to paycheck. This thinking needs to change badly.
Didnt go to college but making soap and secondhand everything! soon debt free!
This video was excellent. It was not full of fluff. It was straight to the point, clear and concise and realistic. Quitting your job can be done.
i stopped at 2:20, i just quit my job today as a truck driver at 44 years old and a mortgage payer. I Have so many visions as how to make money while having fun at the same time. If people think they need to be stuck in the same boring ass routine 5 days a week and hate Mondays then follow me and lets give this a go! Love to all...
Man plz give some tips on how to go abt leaving my dreadful job. I'm 37 and I envision myself a millionaire.
Actually share yo idea with me plz, I check my government contributions the last time and I HV something like 500k. I need some ideas as to how to quit. And some business ideas you might have
Fear kills. Save some money, grab your nuts and get out there an make yourself someone you'd subscribe to. That's what life is about. Trust in God and anything is possible.
Thanx Malan for uploading this video again, I had been thinking about it for a couple years when it was gone and finally it's baaaack! So glad you rock bro!
This man is telling the truth
Wow Eminem is really motivating!!
+Nikola Nebulus #necklaceinspiration ;)
***** Cause I'm slim shady yes I'm the real shady lol
Seriously? Don't quit your job unless you have another job or already have savings? I really thought I was going to hear something profound.
It's common sense. Have a backup plan or you'll be screwed. You can't just quit and THEN come up with your plan. Who knows when your plan will start making money
Yeah, it is. It's just...the title of the video had me thinking this guy had some unique method for quitting your job...like no one has ever quit a job to move into a better one or simply take a hiatus from work for a few months and live off savings.
+Christopher Moore i think there is no such a revolutionary way to quit jour income source and expect to make it. It can't be solved with magic.
make your own video about that!!!
+Christopher Moore seriously. That's what I was thinking. But also, some people also have help. I left my teaching job. My husband said don't go back. We are on one income and doing fine. Also, I still don't have a solid plan yet. Working on something.
OMG the screwing around thing at work is so true. My current coworkers do that a lot. I do what he says, just work on business stuff since nobody else wants to work anyways.
I really needed to hear this especially the keep your butt in your cubicle part and earn a check. I've been so stressed but thank you.
Buy a van and live in it. This way you can travel, find work, save money, no bills and its probably one way of getting on your feet early.
lmao you really think someone will do that I mean i will but
I definitely would if I didn't have a kid. That's what I wish I could do honestly.
This video was amazing and very clear and straight forward. YOU ARE THE MAN!!! i hope many good things happen to you!
Thanks for the sound advice: " don't quit your job that you hate until you have other sources of income". Because nobody thought of that...people are afraid to quit *BECAUSE* they have no other sources of income!
This is some amazing pointers! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks makes a lot of sense. So hard to stay when you hate your job but as you say you kind of have to stick it out until you have a concrete plan
It's back!!!! Thank you.
I literally stumbled upon this video and I gotta tell you...THIS is exactly what I NEEDED to hear. I've hated my job for the last 10yrs and could not figure out an exit strategy. Thank you!
I have no idea how I found you but I'm glad I did!!!!thank you!!!!
happy acidents
+Malan Darras thank you for your advice step #1 completed.
I had my screen off just listening to him talk, i thought the video was over at 5 minutes, boy he was just getting started! Amazing video! Thank you so much !
Logical advice, thank you.
Excellent vid, love the simple advice and the fact your honest about it taking effort and work. Thanks, keep up the good work.
This was a surprisingly good video, subscribing
this is a good video mate. I am writing the plan out now!
I watched this video a few months ago and has been a great inspiration. Now I'm close to the last step (resignation). Great Video! (y)
+Sarah Lambatin good luck!
bro, this is the most realistic approach I've heard by far
This is really hard to do when you’re a single parent ,dread your job, work insane hours that make you so burned out that you don’t have time to exit correctly nor save bc you don’t have outside help ie child support, a growing kid that needs things to live like clothes, food, a roof over our heads, etc...time is so precious and I’m literally mentally and physically exhausted that when I do have a day off all I can do is 😴 instead of manifesting the desires I want for us. It’s exhausting! I wish I could work a normal 9 to 5 job instead of one day I’m working till midnight and the next have to be there at 5 am in the morning. Also, when it’s manual labor work makes it that much more strenuous on my body and mind.😥😴
I see some people on here don't appreciate your advice but honestly as simple as your advice might sound, it's just pure wisdom. I quit my job and really tried to figure something out quickly and even got a course etc trying to figure out how to make money online but the truth is by the time you even come close to scratching the surface if how it is possible your bills start to pile up and you have no choice but return to a 9-5 IG your a responsible person and trust me I wanted to be reckless and pray for a miracle but I have a wife and daughter so I can't take that risk unlike a single person, for now it's just back to the drawing board and hopefully while I'm working I can figure something to quit for good and live on my own terms.
Dario , you missed the point at the start , 1/ what would your dream job think hard and write it down 2/ plan and save carefully and work hard to reach that goal . To reach that goal you have to have faith in yourself and courage to see it through . Research what you want to do , read as much as you can and hang with people who do your dream job , they will rub off on you . Reduce your living costs , go vegan , shop second hand , ride a bicycle , home cook ect. There is always help for those who genuinely need it and in turn you help others . The worm will turn , trust me . Good luck !
Being patient and prepared - exactly my plan.
+plantifulalexandra boom
thanks for the advice!!! i went through the quit your job, try the yoga business, fail and go back to job search already :) so i think your plan sounds much better. i joined your army as well :)
its helping me, I rationalize better after watching this, thank you
Freaking BRILLIANT ADVICE! Great start to a book Malan. Wish I had seen this several years ago! Thanks man, it's very helpful.
+Darren Starr hope it helped, good luck
Nice talk. Thanks for sharing!
Love this...good stuff
One of the best and most sensible videos out there about how to get out of the rat race. I am playing and listening to this every single day. Already got my goals down on tablet and getting to work. Thanks for breaking it down.
+Lady Neptune thanks Neptune
You are the man! Thanks again, I really like your perspective, and your ability to share your experience.
thanku
thank you for the responsible answer of how much hard work is needed to reach your dreams... too many people want the get rich quick. everything takes time.
Great advice
Thanks a million... this video saved my life💯
Great piece of advice
appreciate it man
Good approach..
Awesome information!
This is so true!!
Great advise! This really speaks to me cause I didn't quit correctly!
Great advice. I went crazy in my job, got so miserable. Wish I had a plan and didn't freak out. Can't go back but wish I could have watched a lot of these videos earlier.
Awesome!!!!!
good stuff!
I work 8-5. Weekends included. I have no time to do anything that I want to do. I'm too tired when I get home. My boss doesn't like me. So I want to quit. I get yelled at all the time, sometimes for stupid things like talking to my co workers while we work.
Ryuk the shinigami .
fuck yo boss
your boss is an absolute piece of shit.
Don’t work for a shitty boss.
I had a boss the exact same way. She got away with that type of behavior at the company I work for, for decades before I was hired & during my time. She was audited & got fired. Guess she didnt get away with it after all.
Best strategy so far!
Great video, I am doing exactly what you revered here!
+Harry McRae get it done
good man, this just reinforces the fact that I'm not crazy Ive been thinking exactly what you said
+dacreator1000 you're not crazy - they're crazy :)
yes bro YES!
thanks Malan :)
✌️
great advice
"there's something magical in writing down your goals", I also believe on that unknown thing
great video, I have the same mind set. thanks for your video.
what a great message to me..thank you sir..
+Jun Jun Billote welcome!
Am transitioning to a part-time position as of now till I find the next plan also am going minimalist
Interesting and well presented.
Thanks Malan :)
***** no problem man!
This video is the first one I have seen in so long... that is simple (don't get that confused with easy), doable and best of all... MAKES SENSE. As much as I am a sensible and reasonable person when it comes to working/making a living... every time I began with this type of journey, something came along and stole my heart/soul/passion... whatever, my wheels began to spin, I lost traction/direction and there I was... up to my axles in defeat. I am ready to do this again and the path to this day was filled with signposts and hints as to what was to come. I will be damned if I let these cowards and naysayers and all the rest of the wannabes call the shots. Most of their shots are directed toward their own feet and they aim well! Doing it and starting now. Thats all.
Awesome!
Wow thank you for this i just made a video getting ready to quit but this really really helped a lot
Fantastic.
Forget having a plan first before quitting a job. That's bull. Just do it. Just quit. The peace of mind that comes one second after quitting is supreme. Things will work out. Just have faith in oneself. And the sooner, the better. Why waste time? We only have so much of it in life.
This guy tells it very simple, the truth and giving the bottom line.
Thanks for helping me.out Malan
+Raviraj Hegde no problemo
Lol! In my job it would be throwing the croissants out the window lol!
Good information.
your just motivation bro thanks I hate my job lol
jobs suck
you should always try to leave a job on good terms because it's the right thing to do. But don't expect to ever be welcome back. companies are really petty about that. once your gone, you are gone for good as far as their concerned.
Where were you when I "randomly" quit my job a month ago??? I did not have a strategy, however it was literally killing me, I was being overworked, the job I had was very disorganized starting from my boss, and everyone took advantage of that.
Even though I regret it, after watching your video it was for my best. I really appreciate your tips and will use them on my next job...that I hope I don't hate hehe.
Thank YOU!!!!! :)
I did what this bloke did and he's pretty much right on the money , couldn't imagine going back to working to make someone else rich . I did that for 35 years but better late than never , wish I'd broken free sooner and did it as soon as I left school , boy is it liberating ! The only thing I'd add to this journey would be to give back to society eg volunteering , give blood , helping someone less fortunate ect .I liken this step going from employee to owner of your own business like walking against the flow of a stream then slowly turning around and without much effort the flow takes you in its current and you float along easily enjoying the ride .
I can confirm that thing about the 9-5 people spending lots of time 'not working', I did so myself for a long time, like being on CZcams whenever the boss was not around. I just worked with a team where the most experienced girl would spend most of her day on either social media or talking to other friends (also at work themselves) on the phone. She was even running her side business from the office as well.
Malan Darras you are the fucking man for real so glad i know you man!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ada, OK
Malan. Go back ans watch this and see your hand gestures. I giggles after this weekend video. Take car man
I watch this daily. This is my mantra, until i finally break free
I fully agree about saving all you can from your current job. Kick all expensive habits. I would suggest saving up 3 years worth of income before quitting. 6-12 months is simply not enough in this economy.
+Ken Pan,
That would be ideal, but as 62% of Americans dont even have $1000 in savings. Its not likely many could do that. One solid years worth of income would be more realistic and achievable. Depending on your personal requirements. You have to remember some people need as much as $5000 to get through a month. While others can get by with $2000 or less...
Agreed...even 3 yrs IMO is the bare minimum. Over the period of 3 yrs, you're 3 yrs older and life changes fast - things you never thought would happen can happen
lol you guys are too cautious, I had about 3 months buffer when i quit, If you can make enough to cover rent and a bit of food in your side business its enough to quit and double down.
dux mea lux
3 months isnt sufficient. That time can whizz by. 12 months is the minimum. It gives you alot of breathing space. Instead of being in a panic.
12 to 18 months is the ideal cushion. 3 years is nice but it would take some people 6 years to save 3 years living money. Thats what people arent considering.
Why stop there? Better make it 8-10 years just to be sure.
smdh
good advices
Absolutely true man. Im 20 turning 21 this year, and when you said dont quit your job until you have something that will replace your job income, i made that mistake last year. I quit my job prematurely because of my emotions and not logic.
+shaq santiago yeah emotions are never a trustworthy guide
People don’t quit jobs, they quit bosses.
not true
ummm... people quit both. It's really more a matter of which they hate worse at the moment.
U lie. Jobs are just fucking useless..
Really good video. Jist of what I got:
Don't quit your job blindly. Have a plan and have already a source of good source of steady income before you quit. Save up a good amount as emergency rations in case something goes wrong. Work hard for each source of income every day. One job ends another begins. Only use your money for necessities.
As much as you want to tell those above you at your job of what you really think of them, don't. Don't burn bridges and instead, quit with class when you're ready to. If you unfortunately have to go back to that job they might consider rehiring you if it came down to that.
Awesome Malan! :) I quit after 10 years! I'll pm you !
😁😁😁thank you!!
bless you
You do have some very good points though..
I will be quitting my job next month and I have saved up money which can make me survive for more than 1 year but still, I'm on the fine line between feeling adventurous and feeling anxious.
Thanks for these tips! I was thinking about quitting my job today. Ill try all those steps except #4 because I work at Panera and my dream is to make music. I suppose I could do it on break
I have watched this video so many times that I am starting to repeat the words before you say them 😂
I liked the part you said about working on your plan while you are at the job you hate! I've done it from time to time and sometimes felt guilty about it but, I think this has motivated me to re-evaluate where I can put in more time on my plan while at my sucky job. How did you make time at your sucky job to do this? More importantly how did you not get caught?
My job is sucking the life out of me and I have health problems that prevent me from being able to work a second job. I am 52 and have worked over 36 yrs.
TheKerryzzz Reducing your expenses is probably the easiest thing you can do.
TheKerryzzz right there with ya.....with my 2 jobs
This is what I am doing now. Took a while to get all the steps going and having problems saving money but working every free second on my art. I simply dont want to do anything else and a lot of people are going to hate me for this. I just cant help it I need to get out of the corporate office job. I love my job but it takes up far too much time on stuff I dont care about and its gone beyond needing money at this stage. I need to do my own thing. This is a great vid by the way. your logic is very sound.
I started watching this video every couple days, in December. Every day that I go sit down in the office, I'm dying a little more, there is no choice about this. I need to escape. I now have enough money saved to survive 6 months, but the "goal" part, I'm struggling with. When you go for "art", it can be a rough gig because it's a somewhat nondescript goal. Make videos? Sell stuff on Etsy? Make an online store? Live off Patreon? You will be encouraged by some art sales, but it's tough to make that consistent, sustainable. Art can be rough, as opposed to, for instance the Affiliate Marketing Escape Hatch that Malan found. Today, I called in sick. I started with Malan coffee cheers, and I'm taking all my different artistic half-done's, and trying to form a clear goal. Good luck, I hope that I eventually see you on here with a success story
I am really sick to work at any company my town here. Their expectation very high, and harassed by some brainless customers, my heart tell me just quit and make money online, no need to work to any company again. Because they never recognize my work performance, be complain almost everydays, really annoying.
Great from a Muslim I like your speech
Ive been in the cycle of quitting a job and then scrambling to get another job for about two years now, my problem is that i didnt have a plan before quitting because i didnt know what i wanted to do...i was unsure about my purpose. now i have a job that im fighting the urge to quit, at least until i know what i want. its hard, not quitting...but when i figure out what goal i want to manifest iill be sure to say "bye bye falicia" to my current job
Another good suggestion may be to try and go from full time to part time while doing your trial run.
Good idea. Like shifting gears
Thank you best advice ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm watching this video although I don't even have a job nor did i ever have one just yet
I had a back injury left work and never got back, then I lost my house due to unscrupulous contractor
