    It's that time of year again! We're getting our DIY Halloween season started with this awesome life-sized Mummy project!! We literally wrap Jay's entire body in duct tape and it's not weird at all. Not...one...bit.

      Do you have an estimate of approximately how much cheesecloth you ended up using? Very cool, btw.
      TIA

    • @WickedMakers

      We used around 36-38 yards (ish) and cut it down into thinner strips. We also stretched it out good and thin and did multiple layers so you’re mileage may vary a bit. 😃

      This kind of duck tape is really sticky and it’s actually for ductwork and it’s a little bit more fibrous and then there’s the cheap duck 🦆 tape. I’m not sure if I do white I think it might be too cheap not be as resilient over time. Did you end up making it with white? 👻

    • @4eversteena
      @4eversteena Před 11 měsíci +1

      @jodyhakala247 I did but I ended up using a nude colored duck tape and it held up really well. I only use the duck tape brand, I get it from Walmart for about $4. The 3m "duck tape" is terrible and Lowes has the audacity to charge over $5. Happy spook season to you and yours.

    Paramedic Scissors, for the win. Allows you to safely cut off bandages, and what have you, next to the skin. Just sayin'. Also, could cut slit in where the eyes should be and drop in two red LED mini lights. Gauze over them and they're ready to go.

    This is a great project and my son and I had lots of fun and laughs making it. Thank you. I love your projects. One thing i think you should specify is that the cheesecloth should be in one continuous sheet. The one I ordered from Amazon (I picked the one that was Prime) is multiple sheets of it. I think it will still work but the continuous material would have been easier. I suggest that you also specify that the bottom of the feet are plastic wrapped and taped when the mold is being stuffed and taped close. My son and I disagreed about that and we ended up enclosing them but it would have been a lot easier not to. Thanks again!!

    This would be a good basis for giant spider victims. If I were to do that, I would make several of them in various shades of light grey, and the arms wrapped in different poses close to the neck and head, and the knees slightly bent for a realistic variety. For a really realistic effect, there’s webbing made with web guns that work like a glue gun that when layered over the mummy would make it look more like webbing.

    Furry here, and furries make a lot of Duct Tape Dummies (DTD) for fursuit makers to use as a body reference. You can probably search up some furry tutorial videos for DTD tips and tricks, but here's a few quick ones from me:
    1: Have at least two volunteers, ideally three or four, helping. It greatly speeds things up so the person isn't as uncomfortable for as long. One person just cutting strips of tape for the other two to work with helps a lot.
    2: Have a jug of cold water for the suiter to drink from, have the aircon on, ideally a portable fan too. You can get into trouble with overheating really fast doing this, so you need to slow that process as you go.
    3: Start from the legs upwards to minimise time spent overheating.
    4: Have multiple pairs of scissors on hand, not just one. If they need to cut you out in a hurry you want multiple people working on it.
    5: Have something for the suiter to rest their arms on (which are usually spread outward, not tucked into the chest like this) Because they'll get tired very fast when you have to hold them up. A volunteer can be an armrest, even. Or the suiter can stand near a bookshelf and grip that. I've rested my arms on laundry drying racks before.
    6: Putting markings along the cutting lines is good so you can match them up later, but including a few numbers on both sides of the cut also helps for even less ambiguity about what goes where.

    Folks could also use the "creepy cloth" material, which comes in an off-white color. Bonus with that is it has random holes in it, so it's tattered and old-looking. Plus you can buy it at Dollar Tree; you can buy a case online for $36. One cloth is 72" x 30", so you'd have quite a lot to work with!
