    Replacement Chevy Equinox Oil Filter on Amazon - amzn.to/2W9GROK

    I've changed oil and filters in many other vehicles, but this is the first for my Equinox. When I saw the filter (not conventional), I thought I better see a video on it. Great instructional video Mark. Thank you for making it so easy. The 1 1/4" socket fits my 2014; by chance I checked it because I don't have a 1 1/2". And because my socket is a 1/2", I put a reducer on to be able to get in there (if someone doesn't want to buy more parts). The difference I did when putting the new filter in was I put the filter in first because I had a hard time with your way; and then the cap and listened for the 'click' where the filter snaps into the cap. Worked like a charm. Also, on my Equinox, there's a green line on the cap. It can only tighten so much.

    Good video with lots of detail. However, you run a high risk of damaging the oring groove using a sharp metal tool for removal. Also, the oring could be damaged when installing if not pre-lubricated. These are simple but necessary steps of prevention.

    Thank you so much for this video. Got a repair manual, and changing the oil filter is not listed. So, I appreciate this video very much. Also, my last oil change at the shop, they didn't reset the oil life monitor, and I didn't know how to do that. I have also learned that oil change shops use the lowest grade oil and the cheapest, most generic filters. So, yes, doing it yourself is cheaper, and YOU control what products go into your vehicle.

      Make sure you check the oil level frequently. These things drink it like water. Not only do they consume oil, but the timing is tied in with oil pressure. They run rough when they get down a quart. Also tend to burn out the camshaft position sensors. If yours ever starts stalling - usually when backing out of a parking spot - this is probably the issue.

  • @billysonlinesurveychannel8247

    Ive been doing my own synthetic oil changes for the past 7 years ever since I went to an oil change place and they charge me $120 for an oil change. I buy the oil and filter and do it myself for about $40. Oil on sale is about $25 for 5 litres of synthetic and I get the high kilometer oil filters that last 25,000 miles for about $12.

    It's a good thing my used 2016 Chevy Equinox LT came with Mobil oil already in it. After seeing a couple of these videos on how to change the oil in my car, I'm sure I can do it with no problems at all. All I need is a couple of tools that aren't yet in my toolbox and I'm set to go. I really think that the Mobil 1 synthetic oil is the way to go. It'll work with GM engines requiring Dexos oil. I'm really hoping that particular oil will help my engine last long and give me good performance.

    I have a 2003 Saturn L with Ecotec 2.2. I find that if I change the filter first, then some of that old oil in the filter housing can fall back into the crankcase and be drained out with the rest of the oil. When I had drained the pan and then replaced the filter, and filled & checked, the oil did not look as clean, because of the few ounces of dirty oil at the bottom of the filter housing. Also, I like the AC/Delco filters that have the Hengst filter packed in it. And from time to time, you can buy AC/Delco PF458G, which includes the Hengst filter and also the cap. This renews the cap, which has the bypass valve in it.

      Better off using a one and a quarter inch ratchet wrench but you have to cut off the open end it works great. There should be a small arrow by the oil filter cap. When you tighten your cap after your done with your oil change take a liquid marker and mark a spot on the cap that lines up with the arrow so you can see where to stop tightening the cap this eliminates using a torque wrench.

      @@kc8bdr Oil issues, You having any ?? She is. I am seeing guys saying vehicles are using oil & having camshaft actuators problems, mainly on 4cyl I think. I told daughter to have them put in the best FULL synthetic they had. It was too cold 7* (no heat in shed, normally don't need & it's rental property, so..) & I was busy. Not sure what they put in. Can't trust them. Not sure what oil was being put in before this either. Cheapest they got, I am sure. I already changed it again, now after 1k , (engine code P0011 already back on again after 2 days of previuous change) I put in Amsoil (as you prob know, the best) and the Amsoil micro synthetic filter. Old oil looked dirtier than I thought it should. I might have it tested, I saved some in a jar. We'll see what happens next. Three replaced actuators, or $680+ so far for them. Next they said they could tear engine down to replace camshafts & all pertinent Auto Valve Timing apparatus.

    While the drain plug is out draining oil you should go ahead and loosen and remove the oil filter cap. It contains oil in that housing. So you didnt get all the old oil out when you put that drain plug back in. Dont believe me, then try it on your next oil change and watch more oil come out when you loosen the cap.

    • @ryanchristensen1799
      @ryanchristensen1799 Před 5 lety +1

      @@nogripes it does trust me! Next time just let the oil drain out till it drips and then remove the oil filter housing it will let out probably another 6 to 8 oz of oil. The filter cartridge is acting just like the metal canister type with the anti drain back valve to keep oil in it for cold starts after sitting awhile.

    • @tubetime39
      @tubetime39 Před 5 lety +2

      @@ryanchristensen1799 you are right. And if you look there is still dirty oil sitting in there after you take filter out. Wondering if this is why these veh having issues with clogged screens in actuators. I always drain for long time, down to hardly dripping ( why leave any old oil in when 'changing dirty oil' ? my beliefs ) Then I add some clean oil to clean out lingering dirty oil. On this veh I also poured clean into filter pocket. Especially since this veh has issues. I also put the best in, Amsoils 15k oil (actually their 25k oil is even better but I am changing it soon to get as much dirty stuff out as I can. Using Amsoil micro synthetic filter too, of course. Mechanics next option is a $3,500-$4,000 bill to replace the camshafts & that AVT deal, chains etc. Praying new and better oil does the trick . # actuators, three so far in one yr. $680+ so far. Mr Redskinner Amsoil Waaay better ! Especially with this motor (daughters 2013 4cyl) ! She been having issues with this veh. Oil related.I finally changed it myself with Amsoil last wknd, it's Wed am & haven't heard from her yet. So still waiting to see what happens. Though final conclusion will not come until we do a 2nd change. The first change will hopefully clean out some old cheap oil junk. Prob change filter at 2k, then do oil/filter at 5k maybe .

      You shouldn't let it get down that low. That's one reason why so many people are having issues with these engines on oil consumption. Change it at around 40%. Gm messed up on the algorithm used on calculating the oil change interval on these vehicles and it has to be updated at the dealer. I personally dont go over 5k miles on my oil changes regardless what the monitor says.

    First time I see the oil filter upside down I’m not gonna buy anything like that
