- The 2023 showcase did not disappoint. Nearly a complete Slay the Day, with only a sprinkle of Save the Day for the sake of it. 🦸🏽♂️
It was interesting comparing the outfits year over year - nice to see some evolutions and trending style across select characters. So much to unpack - and I hope you have as good of a time doing so as I did. - Jak na to + styl
2023 just looks like they didn't have a spending limit on their outfit , just hit after hit

In terms of Marvel lore, I strongly think they were giving it their all,’a last hurrah’ before their before Krakoa got it’s despairing demise during this same event from what I recall
"What is up with 2023?"
You remember what I said about 2021 vs 2022? That the first Gala was an EVENT whereas the 2nd one was an event? 2023 was a Swan Song. The last Hellfire Gala and the death of the (in my opinion) greatest phase of X-Men comics in decades. 2021 was an event, 2022 was an event, 2023 was an *EVENT*.
As an aside, thank you for doing all of these. They've been a joy in a really rough time for me.
Helpful context/pov on the event once again. The designers definitely went all out, and there were more designers involved YoY - so i get the whole *EVENT* vibe. Really hope they do something similar to this again in the future.
And so pleased that the content could bring some joy and an escape. Hope things get better/brighter. 🙏🏽

I will say Ghost Rider adopted a sick japanese delinquent look with the glasses and the flame pompadour. Maybe not high fashion or fitting his personality, but damn is it fun.
Love these videos and love you analysis. I didn't know about the hellfire gala before i saw these and I'm so glad you introduced me to it, so many great designs!! Seeing so much great art inspires me to draw some cool stuff too!! And you're so knowledgeable about this, you taught me to look at things in a different way and actually think more about how each peace of an outfit relates to each other. Color is a more obvious thing to look out for, but i had never thought about thinking about the relationships between the shapes in an outfit too!!
I actually did start thinking about some designs for a few characters that i like after I watched your first 2 videos on this, made a whole bunch of notes on it and a few quick sketches the other day, hopefully i'll get the time to draw those soon. And hopefully my designs end up being a slay the day!!
It just felt like the designers were more confident in understanding shape language in 2023 also they need to do better for Hulk 😂😂

Hellfire Gala was probably the main reason they ended Krakoa bc they knew they'd never top these looks.
Fr - some looks set the bar really high. I hope the designers still get opportunities to produce high fashion looks.

I think we have the longest "slay the day" streak in this year. A lot of cool designs and I would say that I noticed more "usable" clothes than previous galas

Okey so here's what i can say about some outfits:
Carol Danvers Captain Marvel is interesting, in one hand it's very a common palette for her to wear blue, red and gold, those has been her colors since she took the Captain Marvel mantel. In other hand, it's very inspired by Rogue, back in the day when Rogue was a villain and Carol was Ms Marvel, Rogue defeated her and stole her powers. So is curious to see her wearing a bodysuit and a military jacket a look very asociated with Rogue.
With Venom you nailed it, Dylan ( son of the first Venom Eddie Brock) looks amazing. The outfit reminds me of three things, one the way of the chest emblem is adapted is similar to how Venom look during the 2000's, a bit of the vibe seems like Anti-venom and three the way of the mouth goes around the neck it reminds me of Gwenom.
The five are amazing, in the Krakoan era the five were a group of mutants responsable for the resurrection protocols. From the left there's Proeteus he's a reality warper made of energy (which explain the flowiness of his outfit )then there's Egg he creates gold spheres that can be used as cocoons ( you can see him using his ability as accesories), at the center is Hope Summers, the leader of the five, Cable's adoptive daugther, Jean and Scott's grandaughter, she can sync with other mutants allowing her to use the strongest version of their powers ( also known as the mutant mesiah, her outfit in general reminds me of the White Phoenix). After her is Tempus, she is a time manipulator (you can see her holding an hourglass) and last be not least is Elixir the greatest healer of Mutantkind ( he seems to be referencing the golden blood, a real life type of blood that is an universal donor).
Kate Pryde had a lot of alias over the years ( Ariel, Sprite, Kitty, Shadowcat.....), in that time she was known as the Red Queen, captain of the Marauders, a mutant group who worked like coursairs. Rasputin IV is fascinating, she's a chimera made of several mutants DNA ( Magik, Colossus, Kate and Kid Omega) and is great to see her outfit reflecting that origin ( Kate's red color, Magik's sword and Colosuss confidence).
Hallow's Eve is cute, you said that it reminds you of a masquerade and it should do that, her powers come from different Halloween masks( like werewolves, mummys, vampires...), so depending of the mask she's wearing, she'll recieve that ability. Emma Frost never fails, is a reference to her looks on Grant Morrison New X-men and Joss Whedon Astonishing X-men.
Psylocke leaves me breathless, i'm impresed on how they took her classic outfit from the 90's and envole it into something so gorgeous. Cyclops is great, first of all, the red gem on his face looking like an eye is cute, but what's more unusual ( in my opinion) is the use of color. The use of black, red and grey is a big reference to the early to mid 2010's, a time where Cyclops was a villain.
Last but not least, i notice that your outfit seems inspired by Synch, it looks great X !. Welp, it's sad that this could be the last hellfire gala ( the future is uncertain, maybe Marvel could continue with it who knows) thanks for covering it. I hope to see whatever you have as a video idea
That thumbnail made me click so quickly. 😂 Gosh, this one was spectacular. Yes, Emma Frost! I totally felt your excitement 😂 So happy with her attire this time, finally! Now that's Emma Frost! 😂 I love almost everything in this showcase. I didn't expect to see Moon Knight (he is my favourite in the whole Marvel universe) and the decision to make him wear something so simple is just perfect. It represents him as a character and gives a nod to the current incarnation of the character. He was giving me sombre, artistic, and deadly silent vibe, which was just who he was. Well, one of his personalities. So, so satisfied with this showcase. I hope the next one will be more awesome.
You totally get it. Emma and Moon Knight were both super fresh here. The beige/minimalist design for MK was a very pleasant surprise. 🤍

The ones that stood out to me in quickfire format:
I did not expect Wilson Fisk to step up dressed like a Roman Emperor and Evil Magician, really not selling himself as a man of the people with that look (I think he was mayor of New York at this time), but even if it's not subtle about him being a bad guy it IS stylish.
Ice Man's vest and buttons are really cool, but the boots... I dunno. They remind me too much of my own highly unfashionable and practical rain rubber boots.
I like how Fire Star's outfit with the charcoal black and flames makes her look sort of like a volcano. Power and fashion combined.
Venom (Eddie's son wearing the symbiote) looks way too cool to be that kid's own idea. I am amused at the thought of this surly teenager molding Venom according to like, a fashion designers advice.
Black Cat's bustier forming cat ears... we have no choice but to approve..
Miles Morales going Spider-Prince was everything I never knew I needed.
Did not expect Nova of all heroes to be bold enough to go open shirt, but I liked that he retained his power lights. Good concept, not sure it fits the character.
I don't know who grey sword-lady is, but spikes woven into the ponytails to look like a second weapon is powerful.
I guess we can excuse Hulk's choices with his body changing shape so drastically from moment to moment he can't really have ONE set outfit but come on. That's just lazy Bruce.
And then Jean leaves Marvel Girl for something way more dramatic Lady Gaga-like. Glittering stones like scales... I think I'd have liked it better if they were styled more like feathers.

Very amused to see Psylocke's dress be like.... ninja, but fashion dress. Mortal Kombat should steal that look for some of the ladies.
Dazzler as an actual disco-ball. I laughed, and so I approve.
And Cyclops... damn. The optic blast cape is so damn cool. If they ever make a new Marvel vs Capcom game, I hope they include this outfit as a DLC-outfit at the very least. It's more striking than heroic, but Cyclops can have a little drama in his life, as a treat.

2:45 turned Kingpin into Barragan Luisenbarn from Bleach. Honestly though, with how fashionable Bleach characters look, that's perfect. Perhaps the similarities are just coincidental tho

19:40 Definite agree on Hulk/Bruce Banner being only save the day XD i feel like they could've still give him a more open vest look but thats also a deconstructed blazer if that make sense, like keep the stiped pattern (maybe in shades of dark purple), tie and trouser as a set (e.g. the sleeves would not be attached to the bodice) which could symbolize Banner's frequent tearing of his clothes when becoming hulk, but this could look could be a more tailored/clean version and maybe add more through layering (e.g. deconstructed dress shirt in the inside) miss oppurtunity there 😢💚💜
Love the outfit idea - a deconstructed look would have been perfect. Still classy, but still related to the character 👏🏽
Thor 2023 and Cyclops 2022 look like they could be part of the same collection to me, but each outfit is definitely customized to the characters (with Cyclops being more covered up, for example) which is so awesome! Hulk 2023 is a literal joke, and if I were him I'd be insulted lol Bruce Banner is a smart and somewhat serious guy and I just can't see him thinking it would be cool / funny to very literally step up his usual look with adding pinstripes and a tie 🙄

Would you be interesting in analyzing something more outlandish, like armor in fantasy and medieval settings, something like in the Witcher and Dark Souls series? In any case, keep doing what you're doing, you're amazing!
