"To Mount Lowe with Love" presents a history of the Mt. Lowe Railroad. It was produced by Philip Callahan's Galway Productions. Callahan was an amateur historian who presented slide shows about Mt. Lowe. They proved to be so impressive that Southern California Edison funded a film version as a public service. As the documentary shows, at the turn of the 20th Century a "railroad to the stars" ran from Pasadena to Mt. Wilson by way of Pacific Electric Red Car, incline cable car / funicular, and electric trolley. Today, this engineering wonder is gone, although traces still exist in the San Gabriels. The film consists primarily of black and white motion pictures and (color tinted) stills. Narrated by Lynn Adkins.
Still Images of train tracks and stations flash across the screen, and a steep funicular designed by David J Macpherson, a civil engineer graduate from Cornell University. 24:00 - LOL climbing a mountain in a 3-peice suit and dress shoes! Everyone was so proper back in the day. I hike these trails all the time and it's neat to see their history and what used to be.

I wish that this still existed.
It, and all other Urban or Suburban Rail that existed in Southern California were removed after WWII.
The Mountains north of Los Angeles have been a playground for the wealthy since the post-Civil War period.

A Documentary about that occurrence was made in the late 1980s titled “Who Framed Roger Rabbit.”
The automobile and oil industries bought them, and then dismantled them.
Technically most cities in the USA has Urban Rail and Trolley Lines that were more extensive than either London or Paris.

I think you could have scrounged up $2 (price of a revolver) and made a vacation out of it. I sure would have.

      This was made in 1970.
Much of the footage was from the 1920's.

@@ericdavidberkus2950 I figured that it must have been after 1963 because that is when the popular movie "From Russian With Love" released, and the title of this video appears to have drawn its inspritation from that movie, which of course had originally been the title of the book by Ian Flemming.

Here's the issue: Tens of thousands of films similar to this one have been lost forever -- destroyed -- and many others are at risk. Our company preserves these precious bits of history one film at a time. How do we afford to do that? By selling them as stock footage to documentary filmmakers and broadcasters. If we did not have a counter, we could not afford to post films like these online, and no films would be preserved. It's that simple. So we ask you to bear with the watermark and timecodes.
In the past we tried many different systems including placing our timer at the bottom corner of our videos. What happened? Unscrupulous CZcams users downloaded our vids, blew them up so the timer was not visible, and re-posted them as their own content! We had to use content control to have the videos removed and shut down these channels. It's hard enough work preserving these films and posting them, without having to spend precious time dealing with policing thievery -- and not what we devoted ourselves to do.
