Made this mistake recently when I upgraded my GPU to a RX 7900 XTX and temporarily kept my i7-9700K installed. 😅
I think one important reason as to why being GPU bottlenecked is preferred over CPU is because GPU processing is more expensive per watt than CPU processing. With the setup shown in the video, you're wasting GPU power by not maxing out the GPU and graphics cards are sort of designed to be maxed out anyways, especially considering the massive coolers they have.

This is a great video and the charts comparing the 12 year old CPU vs a modern one on a High End card is useful on each game. Most users don't have a high end CPU on hand to test for the presence of a CPU botttleneck. It's good you included slides for multiple resolutions , and You have all the right data collected ,but a technique could help in future videos like this by showing the resolution scaling on the same slide. A telltale sign of a CPU bottleneck occurs when changes in resolution and graphics settings seem to have little or no influence on performance.
I figured out what a CPU bottleneck was back in 2012 when I played Guild Wars 2 on WvWvW. I was getting single digit averages on my Phenom II X3 720 BE paired with a Radeon 4850. No matter what resolution or detail settings I selected the performance was always the same. I upgraded to Core i5 3570k, and the difference was phenomenal even with the on-chip Intel HD 4000 APU. That's right, if I played on medium or low And lowered the Resolution I had a MUCH better experience on integrated graphics than the much more powerful 4850 card.When I finally put the 4850 card in (I had a great experience in WvWvW,, though it was not perfect(!

I’m planning on buying a 7900 GRE 16GB the dual fan model and I have an Intelcore i7-10700, do I risk a bottleneck and if so what’s a good cpu to buy ? Great video btw !
Seems like a good match. The gre would benefit from a slightly better cpu but not a big deal. Intel has not kept up well with gaming performance in recent generations
I have a spare PC laying around with a 4 gen i5 (k series) and I put a GTX 1080 in it. 😂. It’s only in there because I was having trouble with it, video cutting out, in another PC. Figured out it was the hdmi cable. But I kept it in there. Some games, the micro stutter is funny. That i5 pushes 99% at times and GTX 1080 is like cruising.
I’m not surprised at all🤣 If you were to get an i7 4770 or 4790, you’ll actually have a decent machine on your hands. Hyperthreading saves those chips

My father still has a 4790k in the home PC. It can run modern games at very playable framerates with a modern GPU

Interesting videos.. But... I still us a that cpu with a rx6600 in manjaro Linux, sure bottlenecks and more performance with newer system.. I get over 100fps in most "newish" games though, completely playable and not much stutter. Maybe AMD an Linux is more "forgiving" and use old hardware better? A new i3 12100 is not that much better really. Keep the good stuff up!
i got the same cpu and using with a 5700 cuz of that pcie gen 4 and i will not upgrade untill i cant play in 1080p the newer titles. does it run well with that 6600?

you should do some research, but a good way is to search up "bottleneck calculator" and plug in what cpu and gpu you are thinking of getting (according to your budget if you have one.) also consider what is your main activity to do more cpu intensive games (like minecraft) or gpu intensive games (like cyberpunk 2077). You can tweak your cpu and gpu here and there to find less bottleneck.
My rule of thumb is the CPU should cost about 1/3~1/2 as much as the GPU. For example, If your GPU costs $600, you should consider spending $200~$300 on the CPU, just to keep it simple.

@@AdamAdam-gx6ptdepends what you're looking for. If you are only using it for gaming and let's say have a "budget" of $2k. You'd most likely go with a Ryzen 7800x3d and something like a 7900xtx or Rtx 4080 super, here the CPU is closer to 1/3rd the price. But if you do video streaming or need a CPU that is better for professional workloads you'll spend more on an Intel xx700k and a bit less on the GPU. if your budget is lower you have to ask, will I only use this for gaming? If you only use the PC for gaming getting one of the x3d Ryzen CPUs is one of your best options. If you do content creation or very intensive editing you'll want a non x3d chip from either AMD or Intel. Now to prevent bottlenecks it's important to realize what resolution you'll be using. If you do eSports and want 300fps at 1080p you may want a faster cpu to keep up. If you do 1440p 144hz you don't need as much CPU. And if you do 4k you really don't need much (in most cases). For example, if you only game at 4k you could pair a 5800x3d with a. RTX 4090(GPU cost up to 8x the CPU here) and you would have no bottlenecks. The exact same combo at 1080p would be a massive CPU bottleneck👍

Based on what I have been able to figure out, I think that a Ryzen 5 5500 will be more than enough at 1080p for an RX 6650XT, but I don't want a weaker CPU.
If I wanted an RX 7700XT for unoptimized Unteal Engine 5+ 1080p, I am not sure what CPU would be more appropriate.
EDIT: Originally I was considering one of those Lenovo Thinkstation P520s with an Intel Xeon W-2135 and RTX 2080, but was talked out it because a couple creators advised me that it would be strongly CPU bottlenecked.
What's your opinion?
Thank you foir the Super Thanks! I apprecite it. As for the CPU, I think a 6650 XT would be a great pairing. If you already have an AM4 motherboard, a 5800X3D would pair excellently with the 7700 XT.
But if you're happy with the performance currently, I would recommend sticking with it!

If you plan on sticking with the am4 socket, then for the future, you could go with the 5800x3d.
It's more money yes, but that processor is the best for gaming performance that am4 has to offer. Then you could later get a better gpu and still rock the x3d for years to come 🤷♂️

Im going to get the 5700x3d which is 100 euros less then the 5800x3d upgrading from my 2600x with an RX 6750 XT that I got on sale 5 months ago.
Think you can get any of 4070 to 4090 series if you prefer nvidia with that cpu or RX 7800 XT to the RX 7900 XTX if you prefer Radeon.
