    • @Metroidhunter13

      they dont know how to play or see his value - he is my first and more cherished commander, and when he gets going correctly, he cannot be stopped, lately whenever i play him though my friend asks to borrow my scarab god deck so he can spite the hell out of me and take away my win cons.
      but in all seriousness, Jarad is a beast, and if allowed to start rolling, people get crushed, and crushed all at once.

    • @VoidArchon
      @VoidArchon Před 4 lety +8

      He's not bad, it's just that he's in the same colors and general archetype as more overpowered commanders as Meren and Gitrog. Also he is more vulnerable to grave hate and his stompy mechanics don't play too well in more competitive metas.

    • @vishiousbacon
      @vishiousbacon Před 4 lety +1

      I find he's harder to play in commander but in a 60 card deck he's ridiculous because it's easier to drain 20 life than 40

    One of my favorite creatures in my Jarad deck, "The Scrounging of Scorn," is Mossbridge Troll: a 5/5 for 5GG with "If Mossbridge Troll would be destroyed, regenerate it" and "Tap any number of untapped creatures you control other than Mossbridge Troll with total power 10 or greater: Mossbridge Troll gets +20/+20 until end of turn."
    What's so great about that ability is that it can be activated multiple times in a single turn. So if you're in the late game and have a full enough graveyard for creatures like Boneyard Worm or Nemesis of Mortals, you can activate Mossbridge Troll's ability by tapping a single creature with 10+ power. Have both the Worm and Nemesis out, and you can make Mossbridge Troll large enough to eliminate every opponent at the same time with one sacrifice to Jarad, even if they haven't lost a single life point during the entire rest of the game.
    I once had a really, really, _really_ late game where I had enough creatures in my graveyard so that when I cast Izoni, I spawned a plague of insect tokens that made The Locust God proud, then I sacrificed half of the bugs with Mazirek out to buff the remaining half up to 10/10's, then I tapped every other creature on my field to make Mossbridge Troll a 264/264 and fed it to Jarad. Needless to say, I won that game.
    Mossbridge Troll was only printed in Shadowmoor, but if you can find one, you can pick up a near-mint copy for only about $2. Have fun killing everyone else at the table simultaneously.

    Dude, I have a suggestion for a deckbuilding series, one where you focus on good decks that help new players learn the game much more easily, like how to build budget decks that are designed to be borrowed by new players so that they get to learn the game without too much complexity. Sure just a angry stompy deck is for any new beginner, but not everyone wants to play a deck like that even if they are a beginner, so having multiple types would be helpful.

    My deck being covered, very cool. In mine I went full "grave matters" (creatures that grow based on the grave size and big creatures that get cheaper based on grave); for this purpose, in maximization terms, there is only creatures and lands in the deck: for the ramp I use creatures that put themselves in the grave to put lands on play rather than manadorcks or ramp spells.
    Also I prefered repeatable mill effects like dredge, root farm skeleton, phantasmagorian, etc rather than effects that need to be in play or etb's.
    You could do the bridge troll, hunted troll, pythotitan, gaeas avenger path too...I wonder if it is more or less consistent.

    just some things i thought i might add, since this is my most loved EDH deck, and i know it doesnt fit QUITE with the crushing theme, but some of them can - the vehicles im not super fond of, i know they can maintain power, but i would go with more mana dorks - they fill the creature slot, produce mana, and when they go to the yard, they give jarad and other graveyard monsters extra gas.
    Lord of extinction and World Shaper are super includes, just because if you can get world shaper out and start cranking away with his mill, by the time someone opts to block him, or destroy him, youve launched forward in land base.
    Also, Genesis is the #1 card to run for recursion and annoyance to other people. once you find him and get him to the yard, you can pick and choose how to set up your following turns and essentially plan your win.
    Milikin is also a great tool and creature - gives you mana and gas once he dies.
    Wreath of geists, tortured existence, Wight of precinct Six, and Living Death are all cards that will make the deck super explosive and card to deal with, and people at your table will REALLY have to consider how to contend with you, ive had a turn 6 living death that put 12+ creatures on board, and i think the next person got 1 creature out, that game ended REALLY fast. tortured existence can really allow you selection for such cheap CHEAP mana, and can honestly be one of the best early game plays.
    just a few things ive added to mine that make the deck shine, and i love what was brought to the table in this deck tech, very very awesome! i got some new ideas myself even!

    Why Yargle and not something like Liliana's Elite? Yargle is a 9/3 for 5 mana but Liliana's Elite is a */* for 3 and get's stronger for every creature in the graveyard so potentially bigger than 9/9 really fast. I dont't really get the dicision to include Yargle.

    Vulturous Zombie seems quite good here. I've seen that thing get huge and a Jarad player just winning out of nowhere by sacking it.

    Phyrexian Devourer and Wall of Blood are the premium cards for this deck!
    Sadly the first is like 8 euros, so probably 14 dollars at least. The other one will fit in a 25 or 50 $ budget iirc!
    EDIT: Oh, it's more that 25 cents. Well, that explains it XD
    Cool deck! I'm planning of creating one myself.

    I've been wanting a deck like this for a while, and just never got around to building it. Since I have a bunch of the cards in this deck already, I think I'll just do what you've done here. Thanks for covering this commander.

    Can you try a Lord of the Unreal illusion tribal deck? He's .69 and I had an effective deck for him years ago before I sold it and can't remember what it had and idk what new cards would be put into it after 7 years

    So far as of this video, all the $10 decks on this channel are,
    -Golgari, Jarad
    -Mono green, Marwyn
    -Mono red, Bosh
    -Gruul, Borborygmos
    -Mono blue, Talrand
    Do you plan to make a $10 deck for every Mono color and Dual color?

  • @bluesight_
    @bluesight_ Před 4 lety

    I'm glad to see you cover Jarad, but there are two big issues with this build I see.
    -way too many instant/sorcery cards. they're almost useless in the graveyard. milling them is a "dead" mill unless you have a treasured find.. which can get accidentally milled. At least artifacts and enchantments would be better because almost all of your recursion gets back permanents. Creatures should be heavily prioritized though because they actually matter while being in the graveyard. Creatures that can sacrifice themselves for mana would be great. (Blood Vassal, Basal Thrull are super cheap options.)
    -Really needs a bit more mill or looting. You've got some, just seems light to be effective enough. That, and you're lacking enough reanimation or at least recursion to hand. You can't sac your big fatties unless they make it back on to the field. You could cut some of those instant/sorceries in exchange for more creatures that do those things.
    Both of these things can still be done with very cheap cards, probably still making it fit within your $10 budget constraint; or coming close to it.
    All that being said, it's impressive to see an EDH deck costing only $10.

    Do you think Worldspine wurm would fit this kind of strategy? It has a sweet death-trigger but the fact that it can't be milled is a huge downside

    Could anyone help and answer a question I have - I want my second deck to be a Golgari deck, something I can grief some veteran friends with, is this a solid option? Also- does that mean you can resummon Jarad from the commander space for just a Swamp & forest plus each commander cost?
    Thanks for the help!
