    I remember the pint jar with comb in the honey. Have had several people ask if and when I go to beekeeping to produce that. Never kept are handled bees. Been around them all my life. Played with them since my birth 1961. Always been fascinated by them. Got tickled at an earlier CZcams. The dude said: "You can read and study bees all your life on what bees suppose to do. Than they do what bees want to do! I got tickled!

    Happy Independence Day! Looks like USMC on your coffee cup. If that's for prior service, thank you for your service! I enjoyed the chat, btw. I haven't watched the news in years. Being a military wife, I was taught long ago that it's better not to watch if you have a service member deployed. I was refreshed not having the constant negative, so I never took it up again. I'd rather watch my bees be bees, my goats be goats, etc. They behave the way God intended without panic, hatred, or confusion. Regardless of the season, they just do what they are meant to do & it's peaceful to watch.

    Good Morning Dave ; I really enjoy your video's My third year of trying to have bees 1st year I bought the hive boxes, couldn't find the bees. 2nd year found package bees. they all died within 1 month. Year 3 I bought #2- 5 frame Nuc boxes & they are really doing great. Now my challenge is to see if I can get them through winter.

    • @beek
      @beek  Před 4 lety +1

      The important of winter survival is proper nutrition, not just sugar water. Heavy feeding in the fall to build up bees of winter physiology that live 4-6 months with the right mixture of food.

    If you use a grinder on the back side of the hook to make it more narrow...it fits better between the frames in the outer slot. Perhaps someday I'll show up and show u mine so u can see.
    The flow this year is very strong. I've got hives working on sixth and seventh supers. Water white too. It's a clover year.

    What kind of bees do you have? Italian? They sure seem gentle. Here we have no such luxury there is always at least 300 or more trying to sting you. But Im in Brazil and work the wild bees I come across and capture (I move wild hives I find and catch swarms). Here basic materials like Oxalic acid or premade sheet wax are very hard to obtain (have to traverse the country 30 hours by bus) . I make my own hives but they are made to fit normal size frames(although I make my frames too). When possible I want to move to plastic foundation and reuse my reclaimed wax. Tomorrow I am going to go get a wild hive discovered where a bulldozier was clearing some land they are in the ground it should be intresting as it is my first ground hive, although I have gotten them out of trees and wood walls and concrete block walls before.

    I always struggle to find the queen even when marked. Often times the queen will retreat as you progress through the box and will end up on the walls which makes her even harder to see. More than a few times I've found her on the base board.

    David, my wife was sitting here with me listening to this post when her eyes got real big when you said you "were getting into this hive with nothing on but a hat and a veil". She looked at me and said, "He's F...in CRAZY". and said I hope you never try that. I laughed so hard because she literally thought you were doing this in the buff. I explained that to her that you were only using minimal protective gear, and not really naked. You had my poor Puerto Rican mama all flustered.

    Do you move frames around within an individual box to keep brood in the middle and food on the outside or do you let the bees dictate their hive? What is your opinion on summer splits? Thank you for your videos they are always enjoyable and informative.

    • @beek
      @beek  Před 4 lety +1

      I rarely move frames around as I try to respect what bees are doing. Summer splits worry me because our winters can wipe out a small hive below 40,000 bees
