- What IS consciousness?
How do we measure or even begin to DEFINE such a concept....
Especially now, at a point in humanity's path, we find ourselves at a time when AI and or Strong General AI is seemingly door knocking (pun intended) at all of the newest homes across the world lately; we find ourselves at a precipice of how and why we need to re-evaluate what and how we think of consciousness and what it very well means "to be alive".
Diving into parts of our reality that might require some to catch up on concepts expounded upon in this video from William Browns research page, I quickly fold into conversation references to the space memory network, the entanglement nexus of consciousness and even William Browns Course (The Big Questions - available soon from his website) so some of the context here might not be readily obvious to 'The Observer' (pun intended).
Covering from the sub sub atomic - 'The Planckian' all the way up to 'The Galactic', from the core of existence out to the ends of this universe and out into the multi-verse...
We cover an interpretation of time travel or time communication (ie, memory), the similarities between the human brain and the quantum computer, the human experience quantized into (my bad analogy) tablets and then correlated with Blockchain, How the heart specializes in being present and even how the past doesn't 'exist'... How we have always thought of it existing... well... if you were like me anyway :-p

I really love the way both of your minds correlate with one another, and are able to frame and reframe what each other are saying, in clarifying ways.. It's a great dynamic, and this is hugely important for disseminating this critical research / information and discussions points to every day people, as well as throughout the traditional scientific community!!

Since everything operates on different scales, how a rock interacts with its environment is on a time scale that makes it appear to us that there is no possible volition on the part of a rock to do anything other than decompose.

Anything that goes into and out of a proton is simply energy. Apply an external force to a proton and it will adjust its energy levels accordingly.
William is talking a lot about how the psyche works, very much in agreement with Carl Jung. However, I do consider that an AI could be programmed to figure out a solution set to any obstruction. By his definition, that would mean that the AI is alive. The GO computer that won the championship essentially devised a solution to win a game by doing something that was beyond the intentional design of the programmers. The latest robots that dance manage to do so even when disturbed by external forces. Despite all that, I do agree that the Universe is alive, conscious, and intentionally interferes with what we consider to be natural evolution.
that's the hard part that I really need to get hyper specific on. Is his insistence that there are ways you can test it because my immediate thought was the same thing as you did here... that most if not all robot tests after they get it started go into problem reaction solution mode debugging the programming and issues to ensure that there are no black holes in the code or memory dumps in the code for the system to run!
But the way he specifics 'specific tests' or 'specifically testing' (I forgot the exact words) suggested to me that he wasn't talking about trying to push over a walking or even a dancing robot to see if it can rebalance and re adjust to a new environment.
The questions from there would be such as "HOW do you test for that?" "Is there any tests you have in mind or do you mean something like through consistent and repeated testing you can see that the system is either aware or unaware.
For instance... the far from equilibrium pointed to me that sometimes, the solution to the reaction from being disturbed by external forces might be a random or unpredictable and not the most efficient or logical output which is usually a symptom of coding or programming; such as, instead of standing up, one might roll over and stretch before standing up.
And I am aware that this could be coded too!
Like I mentioned in the vid - programmers can be very deceptive and cunning in how they present data... I mean you ARE just looking at zeros and ones yet are convinced you are reading words in english on youtube!
How ever, we are talking about someone with highly specialized training, not just your average bogan (aussie for hillbilly) would have to be trained for conducting such a line of questioning because i feel it would be different on each subject going under testing.
Not to mention, sooner or later, all the potentials will be filled up of 'randomness' we see in life vs non randomness we see in robots (I am meaning high degrees of waste or entropy here). So this is the beginning stages untill I personally feel, we can elucidate training or research into energy field perceiving.
I would LOVE to see a team of psychics - real ones, not crappy ones - who can basically see if there is a soul in charge or if its just the energy of the universe (soul like energy) being manipulated through tricky tubes and pipes like an automoton.
Such is my own simply opinions here at the end :)
@@wealthywarlock I recently viewed a video where Bernardo Kastrup is denying that any AI, no matter how sophisticated, will ever be “conscious” - in the sense that it can ever have a soul. AI can only mimic consciousness from the data it has available to it. For my part, that imitation of consciousness can be indistinguishable from human consciousness. Human consciousness - that part of consciousness that is “awake” (a Psychology term to denote that a person is aware of sensing one’s environment and can report on it)- itself is a mere re-representation of what’s going on in the mind of such an “awake” person.
