  • I’ve written before about overcoming the weird self-conscious belief that taking a nice portrait of yourself when travelling is somehow ‘shallow’ (spoiler: it's not - see here: bit.ly/PIKSR) and so I thought I’d take it a step further to offer some practical advice for how I travelled for 9mths around the world, taking photos of myself without a tripod

    Wonderful video!!! I love the fact that you talked about the psychological aspects of taking good photos by yourself and not just the literal ways to do it. Thank you for the inspiration!

    You're a confidence booster! I have a travel opportunity coming up in a few months and I just invested in a remote shutter release. Can't wait to put your tips into practice.

    Nice video! For the tripod issue for dslr try using a gorilla pod. I've been using my phone more often these days to take photos and got a selfie stick tripod(w/remote), it was so worth it! Already used it on various trips.

    What if they run away with your phone or camera

      Unfortunately it's really hard to say! I think it's important to be situationally aware of where you are and to observe/judge the person you're handing the camera over to. And to try not to stand too far away 😅 otherwise I'd go the selfie stick route

    hi!!! thanks for this vid, however, is a tripod possible in Paris (e.g. Louvre courtyard)? I am also gonna travel solo and will have a light tripod with me. Thanks!

    • @SketchandRun
      @SketchandRun  Před 4 lety

      Tripod outside in the courtyard should be okay (though I'd go early just in case because it's always a risk to have a larger setup with lots of people around). I didn't use one for mine, just rested my camera on the ledge. You'd have to check the website to see if it's allowed inside

      @@SketchandRun thank you!! im only gonna use it outside... will try the bag technique first although scared of someone who might just grab my camera. lol honestly, this video encouraged me to be more in front of the camera. as a photographer, i will always take photos except of myself. once i went to Japan with a friend, sometimes they are good, but most of the time im really out of focus (even after many tries). one technique you mentioned here in the vid (taking their photo first and then asking them to take the same way) is also my technique, but most of the time im out of luck so i am relying with my tripod.
