  • DURING THE WHOLE OPERATION PAY VERY ATTENTION TO THE LABIUM!!!
WARNING like said Alan Leigh (thank you !) : "Do not oil the block (the bit he calls the 'cork'). It's usually made out of cedar and its function is to absorb moisture from the player's breath. Oiling it will waterproof it and leave your recorder constantly blocked by condensation. Also, there's no need for these long soaking times. Coat internal surfaces with your chosen oil (sweet almond oil is the most often recommended oil) and leave overnight before wiping off the excess. External surfaces, just wipe with a little oil. As others have said, be VERY careful not to damage the labium (the wedge-shaped cutout in the mouthpiece). Don't even touch it!!!

Nooo! Do not oil the block (the bit he calls the 'cork'). It's usually made out of cedar and its function is to absorb moisture from the player's breath.
