In the nightside was a good album, some people considered it the best black metal of all times, but i think anthems teaches people that black metal can be very complicated, it's not just a rebellion, it's good music from talented musicians, like ihsahn or trym.
Ivar from Enslaved gave an interview awhile back where he defined and encapsulated Anthems perfectly. He said Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk defined and elevated what could best described as "Almost Romantic Black Metal" and basically closed the chapter the form of black metal Emperor itself had pioneered. No click-track, so its difficult to follow the beat", and it made me think of the following : To make rehearsing on top of your old songs more efficient and more enjoyable, you can make your own click track on top of the original song, by pasting click sounds on each 4th note (yes it is tedious work but well worth it) and add voice countdowns ("four", "three", "two", "one"...) when needed (before the song starts for instance, or before a new section of the song). You can even go as far as stretching the audio of the original track to have it aligned on a grid and make it "perfect" (this is called "tempo mapping"), and thus having a perfect click track with homogenous tempos with it (and voice countdowns if you want, etc). This second method ("tempo mapping", with eventual audio time stretching if needed) is more complex than the first one (pasting "clicks" on top of the original track), but gives a better (and often times faster) result. This is something i often do with the many bands i work with, especially for album preproduction, and of course for rehearsing purposes, like in your case. Making your own custom click tracks is a life changer, especially for complex materiel like those Emperor songs you have to rehearse. ZACK COFFMAN Not happening, Ihsahn made it pretty clear he has no intention of releasing a new Emperor album, as he see’s no point in doing so given the lack of collaboration amongst the other members on their last album. Ihsahn essentially wrote all of Prometheus by himself with zero input from Samoth and Trym . If Emperor were to release another album it would basically wind up being another Ihsahn album instead of an Emperor album.
