  • In this video, I demonstrate shift cable replacement on 3 common styles of Sram flat bar shifters. All the shifters were removed for better visual demonstration, but may or may not need to be removed for this process.

My shifter may look slightly different but in principle works the same. Especially the second part with the opened housing was very helpful in figuring out where the spring goes after that went flying through my room when I opened it up, lol. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for making this video. Just enough detail, to the point. New cable will be installed shortly...

Helped a lot--many thanks! - from a first-time broken cable replacer on an old Shimano system.

Thank you Joey! Very helpful! Any recommendation on cable & housing brand you like to use? I gotta replace my front shift cable on my 2010 Gary Fisher Mamba. I don't ride it much except lately been riding a lot due to the current situation - gyms closed, nothing else to do! :) Thanks again!

At the shop we use regular Shimano 4mm SIS cable housing and basic non-coated stainless steel inner shift wire. Thanks for your question and feedback! I agree, it seems like we're in a bicycle boom right now being one of a few safe activities to do outdoors!

Christ Toutube, have to watch longer advertisements than the actual videos any more! But thanks for your awesome video!

You're welcome! I realize the ads can be annoying, but I do get paid a very small amount when folks watch my videos. The videos and information is still free for you, but it allows for some compensation of my time and knowledge to make the videos. Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it!

I was looking for intructions to remove the cable on a SRAM X7 shifter. Came across your video. Thanks a million Joey! (The front shifter is a XO one. No clicks. Do you think it is shot?)

Great! I'm glad the video was helpful Denis! Not sure about the front XO shifter. I'd probably remove the cover and visually inspect it while working the buttons. Sometimes the spring can come unhooked, but I have seen a few older ones that just stopped working. Thanks for the comment/question!
