  • Here is a tour of our new to us 2020 Scout Olympic truck camper! We wanted to do a tour video showing it before we make some changes to it. So far it’s very comfortable and we think it will be an awesome long term camping setup for us.

    That's a very good looking camper. They have toilets that completely fold flat and only use bags and an absorption medium, the one by Fun Essentials comes with a popup tent so you can use it inside or outside. Then you could use one of those external Trasharoo type bags to put the little waste bags in with the rest of the trash.

    • @kateandjosh

      I think I’ve seen those before! Those are definitely a good option, the freestanding pop up tents are great too.

    Hello Josh and Kate, I noticed the lagoon table you have has that bracket with those long levers to adjust them, but in another video I noticed you have some knobs instead. Can you please tell me about that? I like the idea of the lagoon table to make more space when changing for snowboarding when we are two people.

    • @kateandjosh
      @kateandjosh  Před 4 měsíci

      We love the lagoon mount and I would really recommend it. We always take the table off and set it on the bed if we aren’t using the table for working or eating. The knobs are different because at some point I broken the original knobs. The other style twist knobs are just something I got from the local hardware store.

      We agree! We plan on making some changes as well pretty soon. No modifications to the Tundra. The only thing I've done to the Tundra was get a Dee Zee brand rubber bed mat. We will mostly likely put airbags in the rear and upgrade to an E rated more aggressive AT tire when the time comes, but I think that's all we plan on doing.

    How does the Tundra do hauling that camper? I have the same tundra 4x4 truck with the 6.5 ft bed. Did you add airbags to the suspension? What type of gas mileage do you get hauling it at what speed? Overall, great review. I’d like to get one of these campers and get rid of my trailer.

    • @kateandjosh
      @kateandjosh  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thank you! We’ve been really happy with our purchase. We think it handles great! Yes we did, we have Firestone Airbags/Daystar cradles as well as a Hellwig rear sway bar. The sway bar made a big difference in handling. On our most recent 6 day trip, we averaged 11.8mpg and I always drive cautious and go right about the speed limit. I can get around 13 for mpg if going the speed limit and it’s a long highway drive.

    I just looked up the weight of this camper on their website. It says it's 1091 lbs. I have the same truck which has a payload capacity weight rating of 1300 lbs. In order to be legal, you would have to leave all your gear at home, travel by yourself and weigh a maximum 209 lbs when driving the truck. I don't get why these Rv companies don't tell you that their camper excedes the payload capacity of vehicles they say are compatible with their products.

    • @kateandjosh
      @kateandjosh  Před rokem

      Exactly, even the Olympic model is best suited for a 2500 and up class truck. I know some F150s can have pretty high payload capacity depending on the configuration. Our Tundra has a payload of right about 1300lbs as well. We’ve used it for 23 nights so far with no modifications to the truck and it’s fine, but we soon plan on getting airbags to help the weight. Now whenever I see a Tundra with a camper, I assume they’re over payload.

    • @rickm5853
      @rickm5853 Před rokem +1

      I'm glad it's working for you. Just realize if you get in to an accident, you're opening up yourself to a negligence lawsuit. Air bags will further decrease your payload as its adding to the net weight of the vehicle.@@kateandjosh

    • @kateandjosh
      @kateandjosh  Před rokem

      The camper is right about 1100lbs and our Tundra is rated for 1300ish pounds. So with us and our dog and water/food/gear, we’re over payload. We plan on getting Firestone airbags, a different sway bar and e rated all terrain tires to help. If you can afford to go with a different truck that has more payload, I’d recommend it but our stock Tundra has handled it well as it sits, in my opinion.
