I have just listened to two idols of mine, Andras Schiff and Barenboim playing Beethoven op. 111. But Annie Fischer's 37 years old recording transcends the enormous achievements of those two mighty men by being the most direct, most uncluttered by ego and the nearest to the heart of Beethoven's world of unearthly light and shade. She is also the most robust of the three when it is fitting to be so.

+trajnamusiccpt I know Glenn Gould isn't known for his Beethoven but his op. 111 is one my favorite after listening to 5 others

To me Artur Schnabel is the best, hands down, on the second half of movement two, which I think is Beethoven's most spiritual music.

Love her Beethoven sonatas! Don't know how else to describe this: her piano sound on these recordings has a bit of a saloon upright vibe.
