  • Jazz seems to be the flavor of the month for my practice routine right now. Today I'm working with some ii-V-I vocabulary, and talking about my process, and how I try to get inside a master musicians playing as much as possible, and then forget about it completely.

I find your falsetto singing to your bass melodies so signature and it's so dope! It's awesome, Janek. :D
In fact I started to copy it, and I enjoy it, it really helps indeed.

Great video, I really love your musical style! Could listen to you soloing for days on end!
I'm currently trying to get your right hand technique down. It does take a while to get used, but it feels a lot more natural and healthy, so I'll keep at it.
Btw, i always liked your singing. It makes these videos more personal and "intimate". And It does really help with phrasing a lot! It certainly helped me control the "widdle".
Thank you for keeping me motivated to practice!
    Stay safe and best wishes!

J ,..I love how you are so honest about your self,...thanks
My first true jazz experience was seeing Bill Evans Trio, I was 10 ft from Eddie Gomez and he was singing every note,...by the way you sound nice!!

My former teacher always taught me to write lines by singing them rather than just starting to play, for exactly those reasons you mention. In addition, it prevents you from just playing things because they within physical reach.

Hi Janek! Why do you sing when you play? Hahaha I'm just kidding! Love how you play! You've inspired me to play 2 years ago. Keep being an inspiration to many others!

Janek, Here is an idea for a video or book. When watching bassists solo such as Hadrien Feraud or Junior Braguinha I notice that at certain tempos they play lines in 16th note triplets. The way they play these lines however sounds like 4 against 3. The illusion is as though they are in 4/4 at a faster tempo but not as fast as double time. Perhaps you can share some of your thoughts on this subject. Thanks and be blessed!!!

I thank it may be he's using very light gauge of bass strings that gives it that light guitar feeling

    • @crafalgar9719
      @crafalgar9719 Před 3 lety

@@samuelmccoy5505 No, he actually stated that he uses heavy gauge, steel strings. Anyways, try using a light c string on a 6 string and you'll realize it does not sound guitar-like because the string has got way more tension, it just sounds thin and unmelodic imho

Can you go back to basics for us more elementary players?
In particular how a player with limited jazz vocabulary is able to get started...
Or, in my case, restarted, after losing his mojo, with family and life taking hold over the years.
Sorry, if this is a painful request?

    • @hahabass

And you can make as much singing 'noise' as you wish. You're brilliant at what you do.

  • @jerryg2757

Hey man. Sounds awesome. Serious question, why not just play guitars? The power of the bass lies in playing the part. Proving a solid, deep pocket, low end.

For a modern bass player, it's often a needed skill set to be able to both solo and groove. So, you practice the craft of both and this is a out stemming of that(at least that's my regional-talent bass player take on it).
