- Nitro basic is frustrating. It's an obvious business tactic of pushing people to buy the expensive nitro. In this wacky video where I legit am losing my mind, I will tell you the woes of Nitro Basic. Also, this video is definitely a bit goofy but it's also me testing whether or not if it is illegal to crack a joke in a video.

I mean, if I didnt have the full nitro because of server limit, I'd just get the nitro basic. Dont care about animated avatars, boosting etc. Only really want to be able to use my emotes wherever.
@@tr7zw if you don’t have nitro and you pass the server limit you can still be in those servers, you just can’t join any more until you are below that number
As an early supporter, I've already been really pissed at how Nitro Classic was getting nothing at all (What I originally was paying for back then, EVERY SINGLE MONTH for YEARS), like you can't even put a banner jpg..
Cancelled, and now it doesnt even exist anymore and you got Basic which is even more useless
Insanely disappointed in Discord, especially since I've been giving them money for years, now I just feel scammed

And I actually noticed this. It may seem like cheaper cuz basic is only $3. but no. They are actually making nitro more expensive without actually changing the prices to be more expensive. Its a marketing tactic scheme. They got rid of Classic and made Basic but they made it $2 more cheaper but took out more features of what made Classic actually good. So they made it more anti consumer and expensive. Discord is so bad at this, I did not think they could get any worse

I mean the larger file sizes are the main reason people buy nitro in the first place, so getting that (not quite, but a perfectly fine amount either way) but at 1/3rd of the price seems like a pretty good deal for me. I don't share enough files on discord to care about it but I know for sure a friend of mine won't stop his nitro subscription anymore.

Honestly the main issue I have with basic, is no animated avatars. Literally the main selling point of nitro when it first came out.

Quick note, Revenue is not Profit. Revenue is the gross amount of money-that is, how many dollars went into the company. It's before subtracting Expenses.
For all intents and purposes, Revenue - Expenses = Profit. Expenses are ofc operating costs, taxes, R&D, etc.
Not saying they're not making a ton of Profit, just that their Profit is lower than any Revenue figures you see and could in theory even be negative, meaning that they're losing money. If Expenses > Revenue, profit is negative-the business is losing more money than it's gaining.
So be wary when you see Revenue figures. They do not inherently indicate whether or not a business model is succeeding. If it costs me $5 to produce the cookies I'm selling, and I'm selling them for $1, it doesn't matter how many cookies I sell, I'm losing money. Revenue could be $10 million and yet I'd be $40 million in debt.

The thing is that discord has other illegal means of earning money (if I remember correctly) and that discord isn't even the best for handling out personal data.
Their old website was selling personal data to investors to keep up their free imitation, in place of us giving discord data. I'm not 100% sure if my information is correct but you can search videos on the true way discord earns money.
Discord Nitro is just another way of revenue for them.
They should have 3 tiers of nitro
Nitro lite (the 3 features for 99¢), nitro classic (the classic 100 MB stuff and such at like 5$), and maybe nitro+ (nitro features at like 9$)
those 3 features are insanely valuable for 1 buck. no one would buy the 10$ one bruh
i feel like the custom emojis is the only feature that matters, the 50 mb upload doesn’t matter bc you can literally just upload a heavy file to somewhere else like streamable

In my country ( i dont think we have nitro basic yet ) nitro classic costs a bit over 2 dollars per month and you get still get most of the cool stuff

Honestly yeah, this kind of feels like a stab in the back from a company I thought I knew and loved, and the really annoying thing is, I didn't even really use the benefits of Classic all that much. I more just wanted to support them but this move has really peeved me off. If they force me to move to Basic I'm probably just gonna move to Telegram or even host my own Matrix server or something. I'm tired of seeing the bad and only bad of this company and this will be the final nail in the coffin most likely
Nitro Classic is no longer available for purchase, but you get to stay on the plan as long as your renewal is successful.
There used to be a plan called Spotify Unlimited, which offered just adless streaming (no downloads) for half the amount regular Premium charged. Spotify at some point did the same Discord has done with Nitro Classic, but some time later, the plan was discontinued completely and its users were reverted to Free plan.
So basically, I don't think Nitro Classic will stay around forever. I'm positive it can last a year or maybe two, but at some point Discord might want to pull the plug.

they basically did. emojis are eh. and 50mb is still nothing. its a 5 second video, slightly better image quality, or an ok size text file. 8mb was already passable for me. except for videos. thats a pain. but I’m not desperate to pay for more. 100mb is where it would actually start to be useful.
Honestly I wish Discord's full Nitro was like 7ish bucks a month compared to 10, I think it would be close to worth it.
But $12 bucks a month (CAD) is WAYYY too much, like seriously, that is close to something like Disney+ which gives an endless amount of more features.

I think they're losing more money because people can't buy classic anymore. Like for example, my alt account used to have classic and the payment didn't run so I'm now either stuck with no nitro or getting the trash basic. Just bring back classic it makes more money
I personally bought this purely because it's the cheapest option since im broke and to be fair I only wanted nitro for emojis.. and I got those cute sexy emojis.. so I am a proud nitro basic user!

The good thing is that if you were still subscribed to Discord Classic then you're still going to have it unless you cancel the subscription. I still have discord classic and pay for it monthly. I bought Discord Classic because I wanted higher upload limit and HD streaming since I stream a lot to my friends. Custom emojis are also cool but I mainly subscribed for upload limit and HD streaming.

youtube premium is actually a good thing for me i've been paying for it like a year + the background play is really useful at work , no ads + i can help some creators with it i feel like its much better then discord nitro

Good thing to note is that you can still get nitro classic on apple devices by going to your subsciption page, selecting discord, and the classic option will be still there
I hope discord's revenues tank after this horrible decision. I used to buy classic before, because of the custom tag and emotes, but I ain't paying a single dime for just the emotes and I sure as hell ain't gonna start paying more than I used to.
Btw I bought youtube premium, cuz I get it for 2-3€/month and that also removes ads from tvs and phones.

I will say I don't really see the point in Discord Nitro, however I did pay for CZcams premium for 3 reasons.
1. I was sick of seeing loads of ads on my mobile, tv and tablet
2. CZcams Music isn't that bad and has better audio quality then Spotify
3. Apparently CZcamsrs make more money if you watch CZcams as a Premium account

you get to watch videos *on phone* without ads
you get to listens to musics/videos on your phone on background
and youtube music premium is much better than spotify, you get a lot more songs to listen to, much easier to manage playlists and its much cheaper when buying family option

Discord's free tier is very good. Personally I don't need nitro features, but they have to make money somewhere. And they chose the least intrusive way to do it. It's good thing in my opinion.

Discord really needs to make emotes global for free. Like you can post any embed image/gif on most servers and emotes are tiny paid versions of those essentially

Huehue, you poor soul, not only do I use adblock, I also use an extension that auto-skips the interaction reminders and sponsor segments!
Few items for thought:
1. CZcams Premium also removes ads on ALL devices (mobile, Roku, Android TV, PC, etc.) and gives offline downloads for those with shit data plans. Family plan is nuts as well given the scale of ads being lost by Google with those features multiplied across 6 accounts for only a small increase in price.
2. CZcams was making billions of dollars, but operating at a loss for at least a decade or more.
3. Discord Nitro does need classic back with the old price, or adding way more things to the new cheap one. I may have Nitro, but I'm not happy about it to be perfectly clear.

By the way, another frustrating thing: For example, you have a basic nitro and your friend sends you a gift to the full nitro. You cancel your subscription and you get the gifted one? No! If you dare balling and having another nitro plan in your inventory, you are not able to activate it until you buy this plan for at least 1 month. To summarize, if your friend gifted you 10$ nitro and you have basic one, you need to BUY 10$ one for a month to get this gift activated. Learnt it the hard way :D

I was very sad to discover nitro basic, I used to gift some nitro classic to my friends from time to time because they don't have nitro and that was an easy way to give them presents for Christmas or birthdays, but now offering basic seems almost disrespectful, it feels like offering an unpersonalized birthday/christmas card ! and i really can't afford to spend a whole 10 bucks instead of the 5 of classic. I would need to offer half the nitros i used to offer, and that would kinda make it unequal between my friends etc...
Long story short : 5 bucks for discord classic was the perfect content/price ratio to offer my friends, and now that basic replaced classic i just had to stop giving gifts to my friends. Very sad.

tbh... I have 1. CZcams Premium and 2. Discord Nitro. With CZcams, you don't have an convienient option for ad-skipping on TV and besides that I use CZcams Music instead of Spotify, so it's a great combo for me. On the other hand, I don't have Netflix and what they're all called.
Great Video, the other video is great aswell to show people alternative ways, who can't afford it easily (like me just 5 months ago) or just don't want to give Discord any money.
