    I’ve never seen a Nordhavn interior that wasn’t finished in beautiful dark woods, a yacht tradition. To my taste, the Nordhavn interior finishes are the best I’ve seen. I would never choose anything different. I’ve seen some rooms where walls were finished with wood from the floor to waist height and the rest up to the ceiling was a lighter colour textured finish. I like that as well.

    Thanks for bringing us this look of the Nordhavn 80. What a lovely boat. Just my 2Âą, button down the hatches is actually: "batten down the hatches." This comes from old time cargo ships with cargo holds that have covers. During stormy times these hatches would be covered with tarpaulins and tied down to prevent losing the hatch covers. Losing a hatch cover during a storm would result in the loss of the ship. The other term is to Dog down the hatches. This is a US Navy term. Smaller hatches for personnel movement onboard Navy ships have "Dogs" that are in addition to the normal latches. Dogging a hatch will make it as watertight as the rest of the bulkhead or deck. Nordhavn provides main deck doors to be "Dogged Down" in the event of extreme weather. Thanks again for the video, you made the N80 review a lot of fun.

    Loved the tour, I'm really beginning to take a shine to these explorer type yachts. Speaking of taking a shine, my youngest cat "Jellybean" has become addicted to Nautistyles! As soon as she hears Victoria's voice she runs and jumps on the tv stand and watches the video from about an inch away! It's kind of cute but when I'm trying to have a coffee and daydream about leaving the Canadian prairies for a life on the high seas and all I see is a small cat, it kind of deflates the illusion. Keep up the wonderful tours and if a Jay Benford 55 ever comes along please try and get aboard for a review! There was one called Teddi Bear in Victoria British Columbia a few years ago, but it was sold to someone in California. Really unique layout on a medium size yacht, but it makes sense and is gorgeous!! Cheers!!

    I love watching your entertaining vessel walk throughs. I have been in the maritine industry just about all of my life. Mainly like the engine room scenes. During my Navy days I was an engineer. Later I crewed on a 300 ft NOAA research ship as an unlicensed engineer which had four diesel electric Fairbanks Morse apposed piston engines and aux. (3). Finally I retired from the Washington State Ferries again as an engineer. Worked all 21 or the vessels with locomotive 16 - 278 EMD's to 16 - 645 EMD but the last vessel was just a small 40 car capacity and we had two 6 cylinder 850 hp Wartsilla. I noticed in your larger engine room showings that diesel centrifuges by Alpha Laval are used. They are a real savor if for some reason in some countries we ended up with some really dirty fuel. Thank you again. Brings back the days as a kid my parents had Tollycraft and Chris Craft cabin crusiers...... No Showers and no black warer tanks required then. Just basic FUN boats and we cruised the inside passage in British Columbia and favorite was going to Princess Louisa Inlet.

    Well guys what a great review. Also the count Down editing and art work very cool. Looked like a New York aid firm did it. The yacht is so well layed out. Here's what I think they missed. In the deck tie downs for jet ski on the upper deck by the Davit crane. Also in this day and age a beach club fold down with stairs into the water for divers. Also the 3000 NM range seems a bit short. I love the John dear motors. Would ELECTRIC pods with a 360 degree rotation have been a better choice. I'm sure owners pick what they want. Also fly bridge hard top, I would have stuck solar there. And SWAPED the heavey marble showers for lithium batteries bank.
    Also I would have added a very large exterior freeze chest, with locks. Reason when your salt water fishing and on top of the fish you would want to fill a freezer with fish and not have to bring them inside. Also I love all the docking stations. But a remote, or cabled controller could have free up all that space cut over all weight and cut cost in the build. Video was great, camera work spot on. What a great yacht.
    In the specks can you add the yachts classification. Up to ice class, ect hull thickness.
    Any reinforce area up in the bow. Kind of like the yacht all seas has 3 inch steel plates in the hull around the bow.

      3000nm range at 9 knots, it's longer if you dial it back a couple knots. But I do agree, I think I prefer the Bering more than the Nordhavn especially due to it having a much longer range. Not that I am in the market for either. I am somewhat curious about the Nordhavn 475 as it will be in our price range when we are looking to upgrade in a few years.

      @rtbinc2273 Pƙed 2 lety +3

      I think it is misleading to compare a Nordhavn to a Bering. The Nordhavn is an Owner Operated boat with crew support - maybe. The Bering is a boat designed to be professionally crewed and is bigger at the same length. This N80 has 1 crew and room for 6. The Bering 80 has room for 10 and a crew of 4. The Bering is a bigger boat and probably used as much for Charter work as private sales. The Nordhavns are pretty much exclusively a privately run boat. As for range - you can double it by dropping one or two knots in speed. It's really drastic.

    • @FlintIronstag23
      @FlintIronstag23 Pƙed 2 lety

      @@rtbinc2273 I am curious about the workload for that captain on the Nordhavn 80. It's true that it is smaller than the Bering 80, but it still is a lot of boat. If the owners had an elevator installed due to some mobility issues, how much of the routine maintenance are they going to do?

Probably close to the Bering Ship Yards. I don't think you can go wrong with either boat. To get one new, you are looking at probably the same build time.

    I think I'd go for the Bering 77.
    One of the main reasons would be less regulations on 77ft vs 80ft , if I'm not mistaken,
    another would be steel vs fiberglass. IDK, I would just feel a lot safer cruising around Alaska with a steel hull - the ice scares me but trees/logs scare me more.

      1. The 24 m is "LLL" (load line length) limitation. It's about 94% of waterline length, so any Nordhavn 86 and below are definilely "below 24m" yachts. Maybe even Nordhavns 96 are "below 24m". ;)
      2. Judging by what I found, it may be critical to stay below 24 m OR 200GT, that is not exceed both. The most "scary" requirement is manning, but for yachts >24m LLL but

Pull Out drawers are awesome - all cabinets need them. Aircon units accessible - N120 was torn up on those by Steve D'Antonio. Nice to have a place in the Galley to sit down - very nice touch. More room on the fly for those " American Porterhouse Steaks" ! To me, this is Nordhavn's sweet spot as far as size 75-80 is their best size.

    Again with the stripes Victoria...I love them and your styles! Rico, as always, in fashion, with the navy shirts! I love the Out Takes as always. It was sad not to see inside the elevator which I think is a great idea!!! It would certainly be great taking my 91 year old dad out for a sail with his artificial knees. Hydraulic no doubt...I think some of those showers needed two faucets/rainfall heads on them to help share the water around such large cavities. A dive compressor up front would be good with the plumbing back to the stern. Or perhaps the compressor in the engine room with 'storage tanks' (not the actual dive tanks) up front so that filling of dive tanks does NOT need the starting of the compressor each time. That's about the only things I would add. Loved the layout and room on each deck. It's a small shame that one needs to go all the way up to the fly to rinse off in the Jaccuzzi after climbing out of the salt water at the swim platform. Maybe one day someone will solve that problem! A larger swim platform with a sunken Jaccuzzi/plunge pool in the rear of the boat would be great - you could displace some of the crew quarters to achieve that. Who wants crew when you could own and drive this yourself?
    Nice work guys! Love it.

    The fuel fill still doesn't have any spill protection. Just a simple piece of fiberglass around the fill to keep any spills from reaching the deck would add alot of value for a minimum of cost. They have been asked time and time again to implement this, but they ignore their customers. Guess that's why companies like Bering are rising, making record number of boats, while Nordhavn is losing momentum and putting out less and less boats.

      Nordhavn has never built more boats than they currently have in the build cycle. Cannot build anymore. Still the largest manufacturer by a huge margin in this space. Your comment is incorrect. The facts are that this class of explorer yacht is exploding in popularity so all manufacturers including Bering, which is a very different but also good boat are extremely busy.

    So have been wondering how an owner of this yacht could possibly take care of this boat with only one crew member? Just doesn't seem possible to me. Cleaning the outside at sea would be a few hours, engine planned maintenance at least a few hours, and interior polishing, cleaning, laundry a few more hours a day, then cooking. Doesn't leave many hours to relax. Maybe a weekend yacht but not a long distance cruiser where you would need to stand watches too. Comments?

The trick to the cleaning, at least as far as the interior is concerned, is _never_ let the dirt get too far in front of you. Just do a little each day and you can keep it under control. Hull cleaning on the other hand WOULD be a different story. You'd probably have to dedicate 2 days per month to keeping the hull and decks presentable.

Because it’s air powered it can never get stuck, if it loses air pressure it just slowly goes back to the lowest level. I recently toured a home that has a 2 person 3 story version of that elevator.
