For those who didn't understand that shrinkwrap trick, here's my interpretation:
That was an outstanding pro move. He increased the resolution on the mask bc he needed to add more detail, right? But when you do that by just splitting the edges in half you end up with redundant edges, you would need to correct for the silhouette at every edge added, which is very time consuming and doesn't give you a nice curvature. He then adds a subd to another mesh that adds the roundness that he wants but it's too poly expensive, so he shrinkwraps the mesh that he added the edges manually to the mesh that is well rounded by the subd modifier. So he ends up with the best of the both worlds, a great and rounded topology with no extra edges added. It's brilliant
I saw Elementza doing something similar, but he applies the subd and then removes the redundant edges. I think your solution is more elegant. Btw Elementza uses Maya, which is why he can't do the same bc Maya doesn't have modifiers. Gotta love Blender ❤
Exactly!
@@ThomasColin3D I have a hard time understanding what he means through just text, could you perhaps make a short vid that shows and explains this process?
@@Savenya_Amari Very straightforward. Duplicate the mesh youre working on and add multiple levels of subd, I usually go for 4-5, and then apply the subd modifier. Go back to the original mesh and add a shrinkwrap modifier with the target set to the now uber-high poly duplicate. You can now hide the duplicate while cutting holes etc on the original mesh and theyll automagically conform to the much smoother hidden mesh. Once youre done just apply the shrinkwrap modifier on the original and delete the duplicated mesh.
Hi Thomas! 👋🏼
That plastic part at 7:37 is called a ‘buckle’!
I love that I am able to teach you something (albeit on a much lesser scale) after all the knowledge you have shared with me (and everyone else who watches your videos). 🙂
Hi Aidan, thank you very much haha!! 🤜🏻🤛🏻💪🏻
I know what I'm watching in the next 15 minutes, love the french accent Thomas, cheers from Italy.
Thanks Gabriele! Hahaha i'm trying to improve my accent but it's hard 😂
@@ThomasColin3D Ahah, your accent is perfectly fine, mine is something like Al Pacino when talks family business in the godfather, it's cool when we keep some form of French, italian, Croatian or whatever accent. It's exotic ahah, great video as always btw!
@@gabrielegagliardi3956 Hahaha thank you very much :D
Your content is so valuable, been following you and Arjan and have learnt more in the last few months than in the last few years on YT. You gave a shout out to Elementza in a Discord chat and I have since signed up on his Topology Workshop..so thanks for the pointer, should of started there years ago really. Keep up the great work.
Thank you very much, I appreciate a lot! Yeah Elementza is really good at 3D modeling too, and even if he's working in Maya and C4D, you can still apply the knowledge in Blender :)
Yep, Thomas, Arijan and PzThree are the channels to go if you wanna learn from the pro, so much valuable content.
❤🔥 The tutorial is finally here!
Yes my boi
Damn you make it look so easy. Thanks for a great video, glad I found your channel!
Thanks for watching man :)
Add mirror, delete mirror, add mirror, delete mirror :-) actually a great topology tutorial! Thanks, man!
I’m still quite new to modelling, but that process also caught my eye, however with my knowledge I don’t quite get the reason for that, would you care to share why is doing that and why is that a good practice please? So far I have only used the mirror modifier to half my modelling work but that is it, I can see I still got loads to learn… 😅
Haha yes it's an old habit and it's hard to get rid of it 🤣
@@ThomasColin3D Maybe it's faster to use /Mesh/Symmetrize instead? Especially if you add a keyboard shortcut to it.
@@RaulCasquet or you can use MeshMachine plugin instead wich very simple to use
@@RaulCasquet just keep learn and you will decide by yourself to use Mirror modifier or not
9:24 i found this part fascinating because my workflow would be to manually adjust and extrude the strap while you showed me how to do it with an empty curve which makes it so much easier!
Thank you Bob! 🙂
Wow looks soo cool topology , i am new to blender very good things to learn
Thanks man!
quick suggestion: Please enable screen cast keys, that would be very helpful.
Hey man, no I can't sorry, because my hotkeys are customized. I changed the default shortcuts to get a better and faster workflow. If I display them you would not be able to understand!
Just take some time to learn the default keybinds, I'm familiar with a lot of them after just a month and a half of blender and have gotten proficient with them after just around 3 months of blender. So it really just takes time and dedication to learn and adjust to them
You’re gonna reach 10 000 subscribers, congratulations ❤
Yeah it's amazing !! 🤩🤩
This is really good video! I learned a lot from you.
Thanks :)
Thank you! I have been trying to find ski goggles tutorials because I don´t trust my skills of making them by myself even though I have roughly 700 hours in blender lol. Something that would be also sweet if you tried to model snowboard bindings, they're really tricky to implement..
700 hours is a lot! Trust yourself 💪🏻
Very good content. Thank you.
Thank you very much!
Amazing work Thomas
Thanks man!
This kind of tutorials is very helpful
Please make more tutorials about topology study and thanks so much
Thanks man! Yes don't worry i'll never stop!
awesome sir thank you so much very clean topology
Thank you :)
Dude that's fantastic, thanks for all the tips ❤️
You're welcome, thanks for watching 🫡
Love the tutorial and all your stuff
Thanks man! I can't display my hotkeys because I made my own custom shortcuts to have a faster workflow!
@@ThomasColin3D That is why i wrote about it. Some Blender hotkeys are frequently used but you have to bend your fingers unnaturally or click on the other side of your keyboard like K and J. :)
WoW!
Máster.
Muy bueno.
Gracias
Muchas gracias Angel 💪🏻
I learned how much I still have to learn.
It's a long journey my friend!
Sick !
Thanks!!
"That plastic bit on the strap" is just a type of buckle, like on a belt. As as I'm aware it doesn't have a special name.
Amazing as always sir
Thank you very much!
Insane!! Master of topology....❤
Thank you ❤️
As Always your tutorials are perfect!
Thank you very much!
Such a useful content, thank you!
Thanks for watching :)
Great video - Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
veryyyy nice video👌👌
I learned a lot. Thank you❤❤
Thank you Mohammad 😄
Great tutorial. Thank you. The strap part could be optimized, though. Use array modifier to adjust the length of it?
Hey man, thanks. I didn't think about the array modifier but I guess it would work too. I'll try it!
Epic work.
Thank you very much!
Lovely stuff!
Thank you !
thx
Thanks for watching!
I never see this channel modeling packaging product like food sachets etc…could you share how to model and uv packaging design
Wish i was good like you ! one day.
Keep practicing :D
looks great ! Can you explain what you actually did at 5:03 whith that crease / subd and shrinkwrap ? thanks alot, great video as always
Check out the pinned comment :D
These 45 degrees cuts on 12:40 are very frustrating for me. I kind of learned that you can create any shape if you have enough even geometry but I can't wrap my head around these things and triangles.
And also about diamond polys... Shouldn't they technically screw the edge flow? Edge flow principle is kind of preventing you from creating "quads at all costs".
hey, the mirror modifier doesn't work for me it does for you. I never get mirrored vertices (topology). Nothing happens. It doesn't help that you use some sort of shortcut because in this tutorial you click on X to apply. I really want to learn this it seems super useful. Hellpppp
How would you add the logo? Knife Project? Boolean? Bake a high poly normal map?
Boolean then clean up, or normal map
@@ThomasColin3D Awesome, thanks for the tip!
How you add a mirror modifier without using the modifier panel? 8:26
It's the mirror modifier of the hard ops Addon. It's exactly the same as the default blender mirror modifier but it's quicker to add :)
Thank you Thomas! Where do you find good reference images to work from? I have a hard time getting good ones for products like this one.
This one was sent by my patreon subscriber so I don't know where he found it, but I usually find very good references on Pinterest 😋
Confusing question but how do you edit your vertices as if the sub-d modifier is already applied? In edit mode my edges are box shaped still and yours are curved in the shape of an oval already.
Hey Thomas, I'm struggling with modeling the trigger of an RPG. I just can't get it right.
Come on discord and a screenshot :)
Is it ok to use subdivision modifier in every model
Yes or course, m'y models are not game assets
I need reference image to practice it will you do it for me
I have one question: OPTIMIZATION?
We don't care about optimization for vfx assets. It's not meant to be a game asset or to be imported into a game engine.
@@ThomasColin3D Ok I didn't know these were vrx assets
@@kolesztwojejszafy yes, I don't make game assets on this channel
Hello Thomas, Can you suggest any website where we can get clients ?
Well, I found most of my jobs / clients on LinkedIn, or with my network. I suggest to make a LinkedIn profile I you don't have already one 😄
@@ThomasColin3D it's so hard to get clients in India 😅
@@pradeepcj3475 I heard that there is a huge competition in India because there are so many modelers, is it true ?
@@ThomasColin3D yeah dude, in recent times. My vision is to create an animated movie like Pixar or Disney, and release it in theatres, because no one has ever done it in India. If possible we'll Collab in the future 😁💪.
why you are using mirror modif
To do only half of the work!
how do u get all of these references
@@belowzero145 Google image or Pinterest
Is there a reason you dont use subd modeling
What do you mean ? I'm using subd
@@ThomasColin3D no i meant you work destructively..is that better?

I just added it in the description!
Hello Thomas. Thank you for putting this out there.
However, this happens to be the single most frustrating tutorial ever. You don't verbally say some of your steps or some modes your switching to and this has really mislead me while learning.
Also please add screen cast at least. I know recording and editing can be difficult but I'll follow up better if I can simple look at your inputs. Thank you nonetheless
Hey man, i'll try to skip less step in the next tutorials. I understand it can be frustrating.
Unfortunatly, I can't add the screen cast keys because I made my own customized shortcuts. Even if I display them, you would not be able to follow haha
@@ThomasColin3D thank you for your understanding. I'll try finishing the tutorial either way. It was really helpful.
Is aryan is your friend or ???
Yep, why ?
College friends or neighbor
I just want to know because in his video he always talk about you
@@athoimeitei8753 nope we're just online friends. I taught him some topology tips and we became friends 😋
I was thinking that you two are close friend ❤

This is not how I would model Ski Goggles, Wrist watches or anything with straps. Most people do prefer models already modelled into place and I've no idea why. But anyone who buys these models for professional use (meaning they know what they 're doing) would prefer these kinds of things either: modelled straight or rigged into place along with a rig to use. Alternatively, they would build the rig themselves.Once rigged, you can deform straps into place however you want. But if you 're coughing up 50 bucks (usual price for quality model) for this kind of model I think one would prefer to have it rigged and modelling it straight makes it much easier to model, rig and deform into place.
What 😂
The link to the reference image only shows a front view picture of the goggles, do you also have one from the side view so I can follow the tutorial better?
Hey man, the pictures have been sent to me on discord so I didn't find the exact same pictures on Google image. If you want them I can send them to you on discord
@@ThomasColin3D That would be great! I'm in your server, can I message you in dm?
@@isitonathroneofmethadone6563 yes of course!
