I don't know if other cruise lines do this but when I book carnival, I always buy the max of "cruise cash" of $500 so we don't have to go to the ship atm, especially for a 7 day cruise. No fees to do this and you can use it on ship in casino, spa, anything...just a suggestion to save y'all the atm fees
If you get points from your credit card for the whole booking and there are no fees or interest payments at all, then it sounds like a great idea. If not... Bank with a company that provides a debit/ATM card and refunds ATM fees. Problem solved.
One thing though, PLEASE don't take out piddly little amounts, particularly if you're using an ATM with high fees, like on a cruise ship. If refunds end up costing banks too much profit, they'll remove the benefit, and we'll all suffer.

Very interesting information about cruise ship casinos.
We always put $3,000 on our sail and sign at the service desk before boarding the ship. It's so nice because it sets a limit for us and we can always look on kiosk to see how we're doing. It's used for casino money and excursions. We always buy drink packages so we don't have to worry about that expense.

I haven’t even spent much in the casino and received free ocean view staterooms(especially when Covid was lessening capacity) and also camped rooms in Vegas. Taking up one of my free stateroom offers in December and they are giving $400 US onboard credit for 2 of us. 😊😊
It should be noted that if you add money to your game thru your card in the machine, there is a convenience fee of 3%. It adds up quickly

I charge 100% of my play to the room....and cash out every evening. That way, with the money in my safe and the folio statement along with the credit card statement, NO questions about where the cash came from, what it cost to "win it" (win/loss statement) the receipt from the deposit of cash FROM WINS) all included in an envelope, NO questions or problems about where cash came from, what it cost to "win that" and I get double air miles on my credit card that allowed me to buy $500 worth of Christmas gifts for the grands and make contributions to our local food bank for those in need. A little extra work, but sooooooo worth it

I do casinos sometimes and i once used my credit card to play bingo and my credit card charged me an extra $20 fee since they considered it getting a cash advance. I always pay with cash now, but i have never been on a cruise and i am wondering what the best way to play is with the fewest fees.
6:00 For Carnival cruises it is MUCH cheaper to use the ATM than to charge your room. If your sitting at a table and you want to charge your room for $500, they will charge 3% or $15 for this service. So ya, I would be happy to pay the $6 for an ATM fee. Now some of the Carnival ships won't charge you for charging on a slot machine but on the last cruise I was on, they were also charging a 3% fee for charges to your room to play.

@@travhoske7662 Why just because one cruise line has weird rules? Holland America doesn't charge a fee at tables or slots. Royal and Celebrity don't charge a fee for slots and also if you are Prime on Royal or second tier on Celebrity you don't get charged either. Or just bring a roll of hundreds for tables.

@@VoiceEnFuego If sitting at tables, they will tell you before the room is charged then they will have you initial the fees. On the slots machines, it will ask you to confirm that the 3% is OK to be charged. :(
Princess cruises don't charge any fees that I know of if you charge it to the room. It's pretty much the same as buying a drink or buying souvenirs onboard.
Carnival is great. I can charge $5k daily to a slot machine and it shows up as an "Entertainment" charge to my room. I normally charge $15k on a 4 day cruise. 3x the points net me $450 in credit card points and I don't have to worry about any fees. On the way home I stop at the bank and deposit the cash and pay it off the next day. It pretty much pays for the next cruise since I can use that points for a cruise gift card.
Which credit card can you do this with? Do you mean immediately go to the cashier and get the $15,000?

@Karen You don't need to spend it. You just need to put in your Sign and Sail card in the slit machine. Request the dollar amount and have it charged to your Sign and Sail card. Once it's done just click the Cash Out button on the slot machine. The amount will be stored on the casino's bank. Take your Sign and Sail card to the casino cashier and ask them to cash you out.
Do the coin pusher machines take quarters from your purse or just cash?
Check with the casino host or cashier before charging to your room. Royal Caribbean didn’t charge me a convenience fee or an “atm” fee. But I am a member of their casino loyalty group.
I have a good collection of chips from the Princess ships that I have been on but, just before the Pandemic, they started going to generic Princess chips. Very disappointed as I had other ships to still collect.
I charge my room on a slot, with no additional fee, and then cash out and get cash from cashier and go to the craps table. Faster than filling out the forms at the table.
Totally agree regarding the coin pushers and the crane games. They're a real rip off unless you get very lucky. The only other thing to mention - Before you book a cruise, verify the ATM fees and how much charging money to your onboard account costs as well. The situations ALL vary, so don't assume anything - it could cost you a lot...
It's worth remembering that many US based banks refund ATM fees, and that makes ATMs, even onboard, a great option. Personally, I take out at least $100 at a time, $200 if it's during a cruise. I don't want my bank to decide it's sucking up too much of their profit and remove the benefit.
I was invited by the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas to participate in a cruise giveaway. I gambled about $3,000 total over four days at the Venetian (I wound up losing $400), and for that I received a free cruise on Princess.... we're using it to take a 10-day Alaska cruise this summer. Definitely worth losing $400 -- so long as I don't drop too much in the ship casino!

I have been able to break even playing the coin pusher machines. The trick is to drop your coins at the left or right slot only, not the center ones. Also pick the machine where there are a lot of coins hanging to be dropped on either side. Also look for the bank roll on top of the coins. Those are bonus. By doing all that, I have been able to break even.
Another tip: Take a walk through the casino the first thing in the morning and check the coin pusher machine. More often than not, a few coins will have dropped overnight. Risk free money, yay...
@@zanti4132 It doesn't work anymore. After 1 minute of no action (no coin drop), any loose coins will go to an interal bucket instead of coming out to you. I noticed this on my last NCL cruise in Europe.
My last cruise when you ran out of money the machine would ask if you wanted to charge it to your account and you just push a button and you get credits. It doesn't, however, track your spending and when I left the ship I had a $3000 casino bill. I felt like an idiot. Especially because a standard video poker machine pays $4000 for a royal flush on a $1 denomination game, but the cruise ship only paid $1800!
That's my fear. It's so easy to lose track. When I go to a.c., I bring $100 and when the money runs out, I leave. Gambling on a cruise seems a lot more dangerous!

Carnival forgot to credit my account and only my losses, so I got home to a zero bank balance. I called Carnival, when I got home, and got an e-mail and printed it out and it listed all my losses, but never wins on the slots.

It is my understanding that the cruise casinos also do not have a mandated percentage that they must pay as they do here in the US. Is that true?
Play BJ and craps. You know the odds. Craps is about 1% playing the passline and take double /4X odds.

Not always. On Royal Caribbean, the amount is charged to your room account and comes up as a charge (not a cash advance) on the credit card. No fees, no ATM charges. But you should always check first with the cashier or the casino host.
The age in Australia is 18 years old for the casino age
Did you talk about the odds of table games or payouts of the slots? The use of continuous shuffle machines on BJ ? No bueno or if they do 6:5 bj payout?
Also dealer hits on soft 17. The cruise ships I've been on grab rules that favor the house at every opportunity. I suppose they figure they have a captive audience with no competing casinos, but the rules are enough to keep me off the blackjack tables.

@@zanti4132 Most casno in vegas pay 6 to 5 these days, except local casinos. A lot of shuffling machines are used to speed up the game and increase profit. If you were the owner, you would have done the same.

Machines will take cash. But you can also insert your sail and sign card, follow the prompts, and add funds that are charged to your room.
When you play, your balance is put back on your card when you're done playing instead of getting one of those paper slips. Then you put your card in a new machine and it will retrieve your balance and load it on the machine.

No you don’t take any slips to the cage to cash out. When you are ready to cash out simply take it to the cash out machine put your card in and follow the prompts. That easy. No need to talk to anyone. It however will not dispense the remaining cents. Not sure what happens to it or where it goes.
I’ve learned if I have any OBC at least $100 or more that I won’t use I load it onto my account in the casino & then cash it out.

Idk about anyone else but, before you had to be invited to casino royale - now I guess it’s just automatic. My first cruise I won the blackjack tournament… I am now a Diamond plus member and have only ever paid for one cruise.. 🤷♂️🎲😂
Not all the info about Carnival is correct here. We just off Carnival Horizon a week ago and when we cashed out we did NOT have to go the the cashier. We went to the a machine put in our card and it dispensed the correct amount of money. We really like that the card kept track of our points and money at the same time. No tickets to keep transferring in and out of machines. We have done it both ways and like Carnival’s system better. Plus Carnival has a point for every 2.5 dollars spent so it adds up quicker giving you better bang for your buck. We have gambled on other cruise lines but Carnivals system felt
more automated and sleek. Sorry , just disagree with some of what is said here based on our experiences . It almost seems like the creator doesn’t like Carnival for some reason. We like most all of them. It just seemed like Carnival was getting dumped on and wanted to correct some of the misinformation. Happy cruising!
This is correct. Now Carnival has cashout machines. Everything is still done on your card, so you don't have the option to play untracked. But you don't have to go to the cashier, unless you want all your money back. For instance, I recently cashed out with $40.16 in my player account. I took my card to the machine, and I received $40, but my $0.16 was held unless I go to the cashier. Not sure what happens to that money.
That is true. Same thing happened to us when we cashed out. Didn’t receive the change. We wondered the same thing as to where it goes. We do like the channel.

All coin pusher machines have the spaces in the side for coins to go into. That's how they make their money off of it. It's not just on cruise ship casinos.

I personally have no problem with with my money going to my small and sign card. It also lets me know how many points I have accumulated when I put my card into any slot machine. I hit for $781. 00 on a slot and going to the cashier was no problem. Having a slip of paper coming out from a slot machine can get misplaced, lost or damaged. That would be my luck with a paper slip..

So how many people get funds to gamble and charge it to their account knowing they don’t have the money? What does the cruise line do when it’s time to pay up and you can’t?
Your account has to be either tied to a credit card or if you have a cash account, they know how much you put into your account and how much remains. If your request exceeds your balance, they decline it.

What are the typical Mins at the Craps table on board?
$10 on the pass line on most of the craps tables I played. Craps is the best game to play. the odds agains you is 1.5% playing the passline. If you take enough odds it drops nder 1%. You can generate a lot of gambling action and get invited to free cruises. I have not been paying for my cruises the last few years.

@@reidasowden3302 I started watching CZcams of Bone Thrower and learned a lot. I built a half crap table to practice. I have been able to throw close to 9 time before 7-out. Statistically it should be 6. I have been able to at least break even at casinos or win a little setting the dice a certain way and shoot a special way. You don;t get a lot of points plaing craps. You have to also play video poker. Some bonus machine on the ship pays about 98% on Bonus Poker. It generate a lot more points.
The casino perks are no joke! My husband likes the casino, me not so much, but because he plays a lot we've been getting "free" cruise deals for a couple years now. It's not really free, you still have to pay taxes/port fees/gratuities, but we get balcony rooms or suites with free drinks just for the cost of those fees. I just booked a 14 day cruise to Greenland in a balcony room next summer for less than a thousand dollars total. I looked it up without the casino code, that would cost around $7000 per person. Whenever he wins a jackpot, I make him take the cash straight to guest services and pay off the charges to our account, so by the time we leave we have a zero balance haha

I always gamble at least $100 in the casino for the free drink card. after our 2nd cruise when Covid hit while at work in 2021 of April. cruises announced the closure as of CDC rules. I got a 15 day Hawaiian cruise for $799 and free drinks in the casino $200 free play at the casino and $200 on board credit

@@pangjing3809 It varies from one cruise line to another. Basically, you have to play enough to get enough points to meet their requirements for free drinks. You can ask the casino hosts how many points you need and how you can earn them. Normally you will then get free drinks for the rest of that cruise while you're actually playing at a table or machine. If you get enough points you can potentially get something comped. Perhaps some chocolates, a free bottle of wine, spa treatment, specialty dinner, etc. Be sure to check with the casino boss a day or two before the end of each cruise because points are cancelled when the cruise is over.
After you get home, you might well start getting emails offering discounted or free rooms, free drinks, casino play credits, etc.
I'm going on a free cruise on RC tomorrow. It's a casino comp. Didn't gamble that much last time and actually came out ahead.
The casino is very tempting when you're bored or edgy... but beware people! You could lose a lot of money. Spend that money on drinks, get a massage, do something else.

@@amarino5179 My last cruise, there was a grabber machine that had a pile of money, I must have spent $100 on that machine, I was often close, I didn't realize the grabbing pressure is adjusted to keep you losing. Hope is a dangerous thing for a gambler. One time in Vegas, there was a slot machine that offered $1,000 a week for life, I kept thinking of how wonderful my life would be with that kind of money coming in every week.
Now that I'm older, I realize I hate losing, it's not fun for me. So even though Florida has several casinos, I never go. I'd rather play video games or phone games.

@@amarino5179 I did the Norwegian Getaway a few years ago, had a blast. Only thing I didn't like was that the Atrium was too loud, they had live music, and that's where guest services are located. Other than that, Norwegian is great, more expensive than back then. I wanted to book an inside cabins for November, called NCL on the phone, they wanted $2000 for one ship, $1000 for the other. I get that there's a single supplement, but a few years ago, I got me a mini suite for $950.

you didn't tell us what we didn't know. it is common sense. your tone of voice changes from understandable to not so understandable. overall, it was a useless piece.
If you get Casino credit through your account, there will be a fee. Last cruise on RCL, it was 4%. You might be better off getting a bank account that reimburses for ATM usage. My account at Axos bank does this. All fees at the ATM are credited by the bank.
If you are at a machine and use you room card to add $100, then the charge is considered an entainment charge on your credit card that was registered for payment at the end of the trip. It is not considered Cash Advanced. There is no 3 or 4 % service charge. This is good on Celebrity and Norwegian cruise lines. I don't know the others.
